The fact that even the actors needed some adjustment time to gain confidence around these sharks due to their resemblance to the real thing tells you everything you need to know. What he says at around 2:50 though; 25 ft (7,62 m) shark, 8000 Ibs (3629 Kg) and 1000 Hp engine to move the whole structure built with aerospace tech all over the place.... that was in 1999. That's mind-blowingly impressive. Makes you thing about the stuff they could make today if they weren't so invested in CGI

No idea why jaws is so hyped up tbh. I found it extremely boring and mid. Mainly due to how awful quality and graphics were at that time. Sorry but pretty much all shark movies that came out the last 1 a 2 decades are by far better than jaws is.

@@dvb8637 Not a chance. I was born in ‘96 with Deep blue sea being in my opinion the best shark film ever and I have seem most of them and yes Jaws looks fake asf to someone of my generation. But as a film it is superior and to say the quality and graphics FOR THAT time were bad is a ridiculous thing to say. The people that would of watched that in the 70’s would have been in awe at how well that movie looked at the time, you have to bare in mind an audience had never seen anything like Jaws before and for most folks it would of been their first real exposure to the what could be out there side of sharks as a lot of people back then wouldn’t of known any better or been as documented. The only problem however is Jaws was the beginning of where sharks became unrealistically villainised in film. You are either roughly the same age or younger than me that doesn’t see the true cinematic detail the movie produced as some others see it. Respectfully.

Agreed. It was quite the contrast since the animatronics looked eerily realistic, while the CGI looked incredibly jarring, to the point it took you out the movie. I'm guessing they spent all their money in the practical fx, and didn't have enough left over to pay ILM to do proper CGI sharks.

I watched this in the cinema when I was like 15 and when Samuel was killed it was the scariest and funniest moment ever. It went from everyone gasping and screaming, to everyone bursting out laughing, to everyone just straight confused and wondering if anyone was gonna actually survive to the end. Everyone left the cinema high fiving each other like we were also one of the survivors. One of my best teenage memories.

Aside from a couple of questionable CGI scenes, this movie nailed it with the sharks. Still the best and most exciting one after Jaws. I don't know why they can't seem to figure it out these days, they pump out sharkmovies like it's nothing and most of them suck. Shoutout to 47 meters down and The shallows, they were good enough (but nowhere near as fun as DBS).

Theres no uniqueness or originality about them or even any of them anymore if you ask me. And the CGI in them is overly ridiculous and actually looks worse than Deep blue sea and the mechanicals in Jaws. Deep blue sea made up with it with solid storytelling, concept, a premise and all the characters

Spielberg said it was kind of a blessing that Bruce had so many problems that forced him to rethink shoots which essentially made Jaws more scary. That makes me wonder, if Spielberg had the technology and engineering of the DBS sharks for Bruce, would we have had a completely different Jaws and would it have become the blockbuster it had🤔🦈

I really enjoyed this film personally. These corporations weren’t trying to play god. They were trying to find a cure for a rare brain disease. And they had to test it on subjects. Human trials are too dangerous, so they tried with Sharks because of their brain capacities. As a side effect of the drugs to their brains, the sharks got smarter. Flooding the facility to get the fences out of the way for freedom. And the horror music was absolutely damn good. Kids would be horrified by that. First time I watched it, it was for a movie night. 11-12 years old. What does an 8,000lb Mako Shark with a brain the size V-8 engine with no natural predators think about? Freedom. The second film was all about playing god.

When the movie was made they made it look easy Steven Spielberg must have been thinking "I hope these sharks comes to life and eats all of you" after all the problems he had to go through with the shark Bruce xD but yea this movie was of course made many years after :)

When we look at films that came out after Jaws and Deep Blue Sea we can ether appreciate them for what they are and simple what they are not as not all films can be like Jaws or Deep Blue Sea.And when compare Deep Blue Sea as rip off or a knock off because it involves sharks.

after Jaws a legend amongst Shark movies. Sharks looked great thinking about it was 25 years ago. They only got it wrong with the tiger shark at the beginning. Looks nothing like a tiger shark. But yeah, as said, after Jaws (1) the best shark movie ever

I wonder if these animatronic sharks broke down like the animatronic shark from Jaws... damn Bruce never worked... If not, how did they do it? What did these sharks have that Bruce didn't have?
