This is probably one of the most intelligent business owners to go on the show in terms of counter offering
@mz27282 жыл бұрын
Helps to have gone to business school and having experience as a consultant. They are experts on the numbers of a business. Sharks often make bids for 2-3x the asked valuation, but this time I think it was quite fair, and the Sharks got greedy. Kevin and Lori's offers were, like he said, nuts! 20 or15 cents royalty on a product that costs $1.27 is crazy, especially when they make roughly 20 cents in profit. Even if he scaled like expected and cut his production cost by about 20 cent, that royalty deal would seriously impact the cash flow unless he 1.5-2x his prices. His pitch was phenomenal, and his presentation technique was terrific with the visualization of the process, the business had great sales, he knew his margins would double when he grew, the company secured a deal at 7-1, keto and "no filler ingredients" are trends on the rise. Think the sharks let a huge opportunity slip here.

This guy knew his numbers and his business so well. You can tell he's been doing this for a longtime and has thought about the numbers quite a bit. On top of all of that he is an extremely personable and likeable guy which makes the product even more palatable, believe it or not people don't realize the power of a strong and likeable personality/character to enhance the product that you are presenting. If there is something that I have learned on this show it is that half of the sale is selling yourself. Any business person calculates the individual's personality they will be dealing with, and what context the product was formed in and how everything is taken care of. Case and point: Mark Cuban was out in the beginning, but then you heard him say towards the end "I like David, I really like David..." and then Mr. Cuban came back in on the deal... Why? Because David sold himself which gave more value to the product.

Very good. At the end of the day, he got good exposure as an established brand without pissing off anyone. He got some bad offers. I was surprised by Kevin's offer because it was awful this time. Regular Kevin would have offered something creative like 10 cents until the initial investment is paid and 5 cents after that or 7 cents until $750,000 and 5% equity afterward.

I like this entrepreneur, he has the balls to stand up for himself and say what needs to be said, good on him. The only thing I would say is that he is coming to their table for help, and he offers them a chance at doubling their money. No investor would go on a boat with him like that. It's just not enough. The 15% From Mark was definitely a fair deal. He probably would have come down a little if pushed but 15% is fair, the guy is too emotional about his business but is forgetting he is asking for half a million. A blooming business that has been established a decade ago is worth the calculated value with those sales, but a company that only just begun has no stability and is therefore a huge risk. Any investor knows this.

I mean what exactly does he need when he's already over 3.5M in sales, about to triple his distribution network (with the 711 deal he mentioned) and already has all the connections and networks he needs from his family? The only thing the sharks could bring to the table is product awareness and free marketing from being on the show, which is why he didn't take the deal.

@HSMak2 жыл бұрын
What he was offering wouldn’t be unreasonable for 99% of investors. Most of the deals on shark tank are done waaaaay in favor of the investor than they would be otherwise. The “sharks” put a super high premium on their “brand” being attached to the product and thus feel they (rightly or wrongly) deserve a better deal than most other investors. This value is often extremely valuable for most companies / products so they end up making a deal, even though they could likely get a better deal from some no-name investor from a pure numbers perspective … having a shark attached to their brand, it takes them from out of the darkness and out into a spotlight with a huge celebrity name. But this one is a bit different. This guy already had millions in sales. A shark had even bought his product before. The boosted celebrity value of a shark wouldn’t have made as much of a difference to him as it has other products.
@paul164512 жыл бұрын
@@HSMak yeah, essentially the "premium" the sharks take is akin to advertising costs.
