Gamigo has done the same thing to half a dozen other MMO's. They buy it, offer a vast cash shop with everything players might want, then stop supporting the game until it's unplayable. The only way it stops is if people make it financially unviable to do this, by not buying anything in the cash shop. Unfortunately there is still a large number of gamers that will pay out the parasites, so this is built into the MMO lifecycle now.

At the end of the day a lot of game developers have become more about profit and less about product. If it's profitable at the expense of reputation, it's a good move. That works fine in the short run, but there are developers that I will not buy games from b/c of their reputation (EA and Ubisoft come to mind). I spend probably $500 a year on gaming so not a terrible amount, but I at least know that isn't going to another "grindy on purpose to sell you an XP boost" garbage game.

Them leaving STEAM without finishing the game should be against TOS and be required to refund all accounts. How is this legal?
@Unknown_Genius

Why is this legal? Simple: Because you never bought a product but something where access can be revoked at any time while not owning even having the rights to any files on a disc most of the time nowadays - which is perfectly legal in terms of software. Would I doubt that a court in most countries would classify how they handled it as a scam as it goes way further than just the usual bs? How do you suggest digital ownership should work? Cause as it stands right now, companies can take away any digital items at any time they deem fit. If say a gun skin were an Nft, even if the game went down, you still technically own that gun skin (just a png+3d model) and can sell it

@@RePlayQ here's my 2 cents, i barely know anything regarding NFTs (basically because i don't care pretty much) but the deal is, gamers if they see the Word NFT in any Game (even in The most popular Game rn) they'll just go away and play anything else where NFTs aren't a thing, lets just say that im talking from the gamer's point of view. Most companies now know exactly that including NFTs in your products is straight out bankrupt suicide, gamers go on gaming as a form of escapism from real world problems, NFTs are a problem, its been proven several times how this market is a complete failure. If they want to make money out of gaming, just include microtransactions or anything else, that way you don't lose your playerbase (depends of how expensive the MTX are and what aspects will affect in the game, both Gameplay wise or just simple cosmetics)

@@RePlayQnah. NFT has a processing overhead that makes it way more expensive and impractical to implement efficiently compared to centralized systems. Imagine most of what you are paying is just going to the blockchain transaction overhead. Also, there is no incentive for other developers to "integrate" another project's NFT to their game. NFTs aren't magic that assets of one game would instantly transfer to another seamlessly just because you own a particular NFT You are still not owning sht in NFTs. All you own is a link to a JPEG. If you build a game around the skin economy, that would be an instant fail. Counter-Strike was a game first but its skin economy was built later. This is different where you make the skin economy the entire focus of the game.

@@RePlayQYou answered it yourself: NFTs serve no real purpose. It can be done without them, games like CS:GO, TF2 or Rust are proof. NFTs are a solution looking for a problem. If devs wanted you to be able to sell your stuff to other players they could realize it without any blockchain. There is also no true benefit to using external platforms as 99,99% of game assets will always only be usable and have only value in the game they were made for. Because "interoperability" of game assets is a myth. It doesn't exist in reality, it's a fantasy made up by crypto bros who have no clue about game design and the games industry. You can't move gun A from game 1 into game 2 "just like that" with the push of one button as crypto bros would love to make you believe. It's not feasible and also has direct gameplay and yes monetary implications that could totally ruin the balance of games. Imagine if a new game released and everyone already brought everything from other games. That could absolutely destroy everything before it began and would lead to an overall simplification and streamlining of games. I don't want everything to be same-y just because some people can't just move on and enjoy things as they are without attaching some arbitrary price tag to it all.

What’s funny about this whole situation is that I took the community feedback about the game, and a lot of them were great ideas! Stuff like adding new maps, new modes, new weapons, even players theorycrafting new operatives was passed on to the developers. It actually felt like the community was actively trying to make the game better, even though it was radio silence for the vast majority of a year from the developers. Not to mention the time spent on cultivating the community itself. One thing I pride myself is that the community that stuck around until the end were amazing people. They wanted the game to succeed just as much as I and the moderator team wanted the game to succeed. 2 years of hard work, gone in an instant. Replaced by crypto bros who couldn’t care less about the game, and actively wants to replace the community members with their own. I’m just as mad as you are, BigFry, and I hear you. LOL. They also said SBMM was "turned off for now due to low player numbers," accidentally admitting to having it in the first place after banning the mention of it from their Discord for 2 years. And then the answer about BigFry with the "oh he'll come back around eventually" answer feels like when the BF2042 beta ended and DICE saw all the obvious problems with Specialists as "players not understanding them." When demos were replaced with Early Access.... and they could sell you a half baked idea, instead of a completed game with a partial exposure to it. That is when the gaming community started going "Shut up, take my money, make it faster and give me early access to the WIP" ..... the Early Access clause is what killed gaming.
@Lenariet

There are still some great indies, hell even AAA like FromSoftware. It's easy to believe everything were bad when many CCs tend to cover only negative stuff for easier clicks. And as far as demos go: I wish they were more normal again too. But I'm fairly sure at least some of them used to be curated, cherry-picked segments if not entirely made up and hardly representitive of the final game. I'm not sure if the demo for BigyFry's game is still on Steam, but considering the game isn't out yet I would understand if not, as you as a dev probably wouldn't want to have outdated demo builds available to the public. Updating them could also drain dev resources better spent elsewhere. I believe these costs vs. utility questions were what made many devs and publishers largely abandon the concept of demos despite our digital age of today being very good at releasing and managing them.

I work in the gaming/web3 industry and this exact situation is what pisses me off the most as a gamer. 95% of Web3 gaming startups are run by people who are not gamers or have very limited experience in the gaming world. NFTs are just a technology, you can implement an item economy with them and call it a day - similar to what you can do right now with the Steam Inventory Service, it doesn't need to be any fancier than that. The problem is with how poorly these integrations are done and how they force studios to focus more on the NFT component than the game. Game ALWAYS comes first - it's been years since Web3 gaming really began as a concept and most of the people working in this niche still do not get it.

@Unknown_Genius
@Unknown_Genius 2 ай бұрын
@@IslamistSocialist371GOG sucks because they don't really want to give refunds even if the game is solely broken on their platform which is the sole reason why loads of devs sell there. On steam the games are either DRM free as well or only got steam stub DRM (all DRM measures are chosen by the devs, if they got one, they do it because you can refund easily and guaranteed on steam, so they want to prevent people from getting it, refunding it and playing it) - and steam stub drm is easy to remove on purpose, e.g. in case steam should go down at some point without being able to release steam stub properly as last measure. So no, I prefer Steam for the absolute reason that DRM free games are pretty much DRM free regardless - and the space saved for being able to backup the smaller installer instead of larger installed files simply doesn't outweight GOGs drawback of their poor policies.

This is all so strange. After your initial video on this blew up, there were about 800 players online. I thought sweet, nice to finally have more players.. but then I found out about your video and realized why there were so many players on. Normally it can take me up to 20 minutes to find a game and there's usually only about 80-120 players online. Their game is virtually already "dead" and they want to kill it even more? I just don't get it. I love this game, it's the only FPS I've been playing for months. I've racked up many hours and thousands of kills and it's all gonna go to waste due to greed and ignorance. None of this makes sense to me, and it's a shame that one of my favorite FPS games is going to die. The pve game mode sucked me in because it filled a void in the industry and the mechanics and feeling of the game were so smooth and polished. But, after checking back in when they went full EA on steam they dropped a purchasable battle pass.. in early access. That rubbed me the wrong way and I never touched the game again because it seemed like they were just out to make money, and ironically I guess I was right on the dot, and very happy I didn't sink much time in the game. What a waste that would of been. Edit: I'm aware EA free to play game needs to monetize some way, but a fomo battlepass aint it. That and I'm pretty sure they had some big investors to start with so I think they could of held that shit till full FTP release.

I was about to redownload this game to see where it was in development. I still held respect and hope for Fraglabs. I use to play this game 24/7 back when it was first released because I "saw the vision". I joined many discord servers, compteted in community hosted competitions, and even got access to a version of shatterline that had custom servers for the tourneys because one employee worked overtime to create it. There was a paid narrator and everything. The game had so much potential. We (the discord community) kept waiting for more new/fun updates to show up so that we could get more people to participate, but it never happened. Eventually, the shatterline discord servers started revolting. We wanted actual game growth and for fraglabs to implement everthing they had publically talked about, but it never came. Less and less players were playing the game, the tournement hosts were not allowed access to the custom games server which led to the tournements getting shut down (which had the most loyal players to the game at the time). After over 600 hours of playtime in the game, I quit the game. I occasionally revisited in hopes that they would fix the game, but its now been 2 years and nothing has changed since the day that I left the community. It genuinly sucks to see the game fail. I had so much faith.
