As someone who likes mathematics, I do not even believe their 1:1 claim. They say you can buy 10mx10m tiles on Earth2, but they seem to have overlayed a grid on a 2D map (a projection of earth). It seems to me like a misunderstanding of the world and projections. While Earth is a spheroid (let's not argue about this), the projection of earth on 2D maps results in distorted regions (especially near the poles). I checked the north pole on earth 2 and the grid is the same as near the equator, meaning that while you think you are buying a 10mx10m tile, you are actually buying a 10mx0.001mm tile... basic geometry (for people who have a scope like ready player one, this should be basic)

The stuff they require is identical to what an online casino would request for KYC (know your customer) checks that the regulators compel them to do... they dont have a license to protect though so the documents might be intended to protect them if they are ever accused of operating an unlicensed gambling or financial business. The big difference with E2 though is that they are requesting the whole lot via email which is inherently insecure. The real con is claiming you are selling virtual land, surely. I can't get my head around how anybody is falling for that, or how they cant understand why it is useless or why nobody will ever need to rent the space belonging to another person. You didn't touch on the psychology of why so many people even put money into these platforms to begin with. The game will most likely be designed to spend and burn your credits on items, just like a casino. You're in their house and you play by their rules. That's a very successful business model and has been since the 17th century. Some people call casinos a scam, and it's designed to make you lose. And people know this and they still go there, spend their money, lose their money, but many enjoy the process and go back! People also spend money in a lot of games, or 'platforms' for items, skins, add-ons and never get any of their money back out yet they still have fun

I recognize that we can have ethical scam or illegal scam. Not long ago piramid scheme was legal but it was unethical scam anyway. Scamming is not cool but lack of freedom is also not cool so for casinos we have regulations that creates middle ground. When majority of project value is only in super big words and promises about future it definitely gonna feel scammy... And big investors easily can change small scam into bigger scam like in Theranos history. When project is not ready and people talk about scam then it's always just a shortcut to "it definitely looks like a scam". Scam companies very often use promises to delay scam accusations and find investors so harsh analysis and huge skepticism are reasonable although we have to consider that sometimes it might be false alarm and criticism too ruthless...

I agree with you that casinos use psychological manipulation to trick you to come back for another chance to win big, but I think that if you play for fun and not to win money, it's okay. I enjoy poker and online poker. However, I'm not skilled enough to win many games, so I play for fun and companionship. For me, $5--20 is worth a couple of hours of fun, much like if I would go to the movies. The issue of Earth2, casinos etc. is the allure of earning money. If the pitch for Earth2 was "buy a tile for real-world money and you will have the ability to build on that tile", but with no promise of the ability to earn money, it would still be a scam because they won't deliver, but it would be less egregious.

That's the problem - that I see, at least. In this case you're mixing video game software with stock trading. This doesn't just attract gamers anymore, it attracts non- gaming investors - people who haven't experienced early access flops like gamers such as Bigfry. Therefore, they're more easily bought by the program being flagged as a game of the future and think "this is a genius idea", while [PC] gamers generally see the signs of overconfident early access development.

To me it's always a red flag when you go to the company page and read about their employees and all they do is saying "This person is the best of the industry, this person is the greatest at this, this person is the most amazing programmer, blabla". Beside it being insanely arrogant I always shows me the company has a weird need to come over as if they have formed the dream team, the best team in the world to take on any job, yet they have no work to back it up. I once had employer when I was a movie editor who bragged all the time about how great he was. O how he was the best color corrector in the world and how detailed he was in his work, yeah until a client was furious cause a series of movies we made had awful color correction and things were left in the background that shouldn't be visible. Out of the 200 video's only 5 he did the color correction and the finishing touch, those 5 were the only ones they were angry about, of course he blamed me and my co-editor. We had to fix it while being very busy as it was already. That's why I hate it when companies write this shit, cause you know they will be like that as well, they will fuck up and blame others. Also funny how the backers made all these video's claiming BigFry, Kirian and the others need to do their research and always use that one guy as a example why it's legit "He is the founder of occulus, you think he would scam you?" well if you done your research other then looking at their bragging website you would have known he wasn't a founder at all, and there comes why I do believe he is a scammer, he claims he is a founder when he is not, when he makes such a massive claim about something revolutionary like the Occulus then why would he not be dishonest about other things in life huh?

Those terms of service literally protect the company with cancelling affer they sell 100 million in tiles, doing zero development, and having no liability. It very clearly states they have no obligation to pay anybody anything. Bitcoin was created with the idea it was harder to tamper with. One person couldn’t “cancel” the project. There was no terms and services, it was a gamble through and through. But there is a big difference between a gamble and a scam. A scam is when there are no odds to succeed, the leader owns 100%. He may “pay people off” to win here and there to pretend there is legitimacy, but ultimately they decide who gets paid out. That is a fucking scam.

Tbh, this game even isn't close to the most ambitious game, I still think that Star Citizen is the one that still holds that place. Remember how people called out Star Citizen beeing a scam for selling .png ships? This would be almost the same thing, BUT star citizen showed what they could actually do. They had their demo, their own created tech, etc. These Earth 2 guys just don't actually show anything but the grid.

3:40 Btw this just looks like a typical Outerra 3D engine demo (very suspicious due to 2D trees only, always showing the same face from every viewing angle). It's a common tactic to choose a relatively uncommon 3D engine to make it look as if there's some new WIP 3D engine or technology. E2's demo footage also looks too similar to Unigine's Sim version of the 3D engine.

Nicely done! A good example of doing a basic search on publicly available sources and showing people that doing our own research, to make an informed choice, need not be too complicated. After watching your video, I come away with the impression that these 'indie' developers are taking a page from AAA titles - selling the idea of a game. They draw on existing tech, be as ambiguous as possible and allow potential buyers to fill in the gaps using their own imagination. We're not buying products anymore. We're buying emotions. And we should expect more of these.

I understand why people say SC is a scam on one hand but I truly don't believe it is, sure it takes forever for some stuff but it's never stopped delivering what they promise after you wait long enough, plus with server meshing on the horizon with a full 20 person dev crew working on that specific feature things are going to be better than ever soon, I believe in it personally. Not comparable to this project, SC has features and gameplay with a detailed roadmap and a singleplayer story coming with no evidence that it won't..? Plus we get weekly tangible and realistic updates on the development every single week, often twice a week with dev interviews for SC where the literally show us the work so it's not just a lie...

The comparison with Star Citizen isn't really fair. When SC was in a "concept-stage" Roberts at least showed something, a video of what he wanted it to look like (and it does look like that today, or arguably better), and a target he wanted to achieve, something you could get a friend and explain clearly, without doubts. Will it be exactly as he wants it to be ? probably not, but it is a playable game, and it looks like it will be a released game. Earth 2 isn't a game, and isn't even a concept yet, it's some kind of a cryptocurrency without the security systems of one. You can put money into it, but you can't take it out. There's nothing but a website and a confusional blabber of what it should be, even though nobody can explain what it actually means. There are no assets, no drawings, no sketches, nothing. If a friend asks you what Earth 2 is, you can't explain it to him.

SC is a game, might not be polished and you can be critic of it, no doubt, but it's a game. Earth 2 is a scam.

Yes at the moment you got to be a fan to really enjoy SC. You got to know the workarounds for bugs. Man i cant wait until their servermesh, quatum, itemcach, render v12 is ready. I think from that point on gameloops and gameplay will evolve and add very quickly. Lots of stuff has to be just waiting for the implementation but is blocked right now due unfinished but required servertech. It sucks that it takes so long, but following the project since the first year i can say its ok to take lonc if the endresult is spectacular. Thats what i love in SC. And as a hint. Never play during free fly events. Its a different experience without the lags outside of events.

What I saw in the conversation seemed to indicate that they're now struggling to know what to do though are still attempting to work on the game. Either way, seems like he majorly screwed over his own studio. Not a guy I'd trust. Edit: My apologies, my original comment was unclear. I wasn't trying to absolve him of abandoning the game, but rather trying to say that his abandonment of the studio seems to be behind the lack of updates. If you look at the tiles, they are square. The earth is round. This makes it so that there has to be seams or some kind of other trick like teleporting portals or something somewhere, because it doesn't fit together mathematically. So I would be interested in knowing where the seams are. Perhaps in the middle of oceans or something, but still.

Ready player one is set in a future so bad that trailer parks became so overpopulated that they had to stack them. Corporate companies are so money hungry for in game rewards they basically SWAT people to stop them from getting further in the game. They attack the main characters trailer park because he's progressing faster than the corporation. If that's what Earth2 embraces to become, I want them gone along with everyone supporting them.

Yeah, there is currently a SQ42+ really good starter ship pack for that much. Rest of the ships you can earn with in-game credits pretty easily. SC seems like a way better deal than this mumbo jumbo they are trying to pull here with E2.

Crazy thing is alot of the supporters say things that arent true and spread rumors that the devs themselves say arent true. They often dont even know what they bought. Which is nothing. They own nothing. The only people who “own” anything are the small company that created earth 2. They are RENTING tiles out and can revoke them at anytime or cancel the project with their funds from tile purchases.
