Here are the measured specs of my copy of the Wilson Shift. The get these, I used a crappy Amazon Scale, the Briffidi SW1 for swingweight, the Briffidi Twistweight Adapter for twistweight and a prototype Briffidi BP1 for balance. These specs are strung, including Solinco Tourbite 16L, a Sampras O Damp and a Gamma Overgrip. Static Weight: 323g Balance: 32.1cm Swingweight: 309 Twistweight: 13 Recoil Weight: 151 MgR/I: 21 Polarization: 0.47

I'm fascinated at how low your actual twist wts. are turning out vs. TW's. Have heard that TWU only tests one racquet to come up with their #. Either way, am jealous you have that adaptor!

@@brandomaxwell I've seen TWU actually update their twist numbers if when they update the SW numbers. They did this for the 2023 PA if I remember. Anyway, I doubt what they are doing is much more accurate that the GOATED Briffidi.

The variance of SW is sometimes unbelievable. My Shift has a strung SW of 324. I can well imagine that a test turns out completely different, although it is the same racket.

Great video and agree with your perception of the racquet - it does adjust based on how you swing. However, we at the tw forums have concluded that 309sw is not under spec - lots of evidence is showing that that’s very common, so it needs some weight in the hoop. I’m actually loving the 315 slightly under spec (328sw with strings) - the balance is great, and the ability to loop back deep defensive balls, stability at the net, and controllable power is addicting, plus I can play with a full bed of poly without arm issues. Also when you play with it enough you get used to how it’s different depending on what you’re trying to do.

I tried both Shift300 and 315. The latter was way more controllable and launch angle was consistent, thank to 18 mains and higher static and swing weights. And 300, yeah, it felt like a bit of bi-polar racket (with 2 distinct personalities) plus a bit too light for my liking.

Your review agrees with my friends impressions on shift 300. I haven’t played it yet. He is currently using radical mp. He told me it had plenty of power and spin. You can practically do every shot you want but it does not excels somewhere and that it’s sth he confused him. He found that it offers too much power for him. His main issue was inconsistent response….. balls could fly with no reason. That he also has more confidence when playing for example pure aero 300 23…… shift was to him less controlled than pure aero. Imagine that. So this racquet has some of the clash inconsistencies on contact it seems…..

Beckett: The Shift 300 is an interesting racket, indeed. ( I’m the 4.0 all-court senior with one/hander)… I try lots of racquets and usually send them back… The Prince Twistpower 100 x and the Head auxetic Speed Pro are permanently in my bag. I tested the VCore 95 and 100… sent them both back… 😂The 95 requires better technique and the 100 just didn’t feel right.. maybe the head light balance. I intend to try the VCore 98… Back to the Shift 300… I’m resisting sending it back for some reason… It whips through the air fast and, if I work on my technique, I would be able to generate lots of spin from both sides, and I’m not a big spin guy, lots of flat… So I just might keep it… Will try the VCore 98, though. Oh, string Shift with VS gut mains 55: rpm blast crosses 52… ciao, John

Interesting take on an interesting racket. I haven't spent very much time with it, but my brief hit with it was very positive (I'm coming from a traditional box-beam background). One thing in the review that puzzled me, though: you seemed to criticize the racket because it lets you hit loopier/spinnier balls and also flat balls, but complained that this required thought. How is this different from any other racket? When I'm hitting with an Extreme or Aero, I have to consciously change my swing and try calculate a trajectory to hit a flat ball. How is the Shift any different here? Wasn't sure I followed that.

It’s just very exaggerated. Like non-linear almost. It’s like you are using 2 different racquets, an Aero on topspin and a Prostaff on flat. I don’t like it, but I can also see how this would be very appealing.

Thanks for the review! Great stuff! What would you recommend to try next if choosing between Shift 300 and VCore 98? My main is latest EZone. Not looking for a permanent switch, but I do want a new toy to try. ACTennis has suggested to try Shift just for the sake of different feels, since VCore would offer feels that are way too close to EZone to justify a new purchase.

If you are an adult, going to the full 300g version would be my recommendation. Pick any 300g, 100sqin racquet with a beam thicker than 23mm and you'll be good. Whatever gets you most excited, whether it be the look or the pro endorsement. It doesn't matter because your game has so much potential, it will morph to work well with whatever racquet you choose. Just pick something and stick with it for a few years.

Personally I find my Shift 300 less stable then my Blade 100. Specially notable in defense at off centre shots. Great at serve and attacking spinning shots, but so far I trust my Blade 100 v8 a bit more. But that could change the more i play with the Shift. Both customized with a bit of led 3 and 9. @tennisthroughtrailanderror
@tennisthroughtrailanderror Жыл бұрын
Not to sound like an unsolicited advice, try few multifilament in mains and poly in cross until you find what you're looking in terms of spin, power and most importantly feel. Remember it's actually the combination of racquet and strings that should be taken into consideration and not just racquet or strings alone and ofcourse how it suits your game style and your requirements. It's never one size fits all model, select racquet frame and string setup that caters to your needs only. What work for me or any one else for that matter might not work for you. Find your fit, there's lot of things to choose from and please stick with it and don't keep on changing and trying constantly. Consistency is key. Hope this is helpful. Go make your tennis dream come true little champ 🏆

I agree with the other comment. "Good" string setups are largely based on the preference of the individuals. This comes from your experience trying new gear and truly starts when you are first learning tennis. Try TNT2. Then try try Head Velocity. Then try Prince SynGut with Duraflux. See which you like the best. Then try putting Head Lynx in the cross of you while keeping your favourite nylons in the mains. Have fun with it!

My shift 300 first and last impressions. I hated it: First of all it’s thick like an ultra 23 mold with more weight in the head. Shift has an identity crisis. They say it’s in the middle of power between blade and ultra…. Blade v8 in general offers more power….. you have to go for the shot in order to extract shifts power and then yeah it offers more. Sweet spot is tiny….. this is actually an unusual con for a 99 inch racquet that supposedly has more power than a blade. It feels thick through the air and specially on the head area…. not so fast for drop shots and volleys small wrist actions…. not enough pop on defensive situations. It had ok power and great spin/byte on kick serves which was my fav shot….. flat and slices were ok too. Feel is very close to clash v2 (not v1) and not on blade/pro staff level….. i would say that i prefer ultras harsh feel more which is more connected…. shift was more muted. I don’t know what the audience for this racquet is cause as i said spin generation doesn’t come for free. If you go for it yeah it’s great and offers great control but but but it’s for the modern spiny player with fast swing…. in the end i would suggest anyone to prefer a pure aero over this and call it a day. For me it’s a Wilson marketing flop that reminds heads non stop production of new racquets and lines. A racquet that unfortunately will put an end at our blades hopes that someday free power will return like it was on blades before v6….. cause Wilson now wants to sell shift as sth that offers a little more free power than blade which i said isn’t the case in reality and i even found blade to offer more forgiveness and ease of play. Shift can sometimes become unpredictable on flat shots when your contact is not clean…. this is the clash effect…. same flat shot can land in and sometimes long without giving you the reason….. lack of feedback obviously. My demo was strung with element 1.30. I also never felt their new magic tech with the vertical bending.

How is it compared to the Bolt V2 98 racquet?
@TennCom
@TennCom 6 ай бұрын
its a lot easier to use than the Bolts. The Bolts swing deceptively heavy. Even our 100L had a 330 swing and our 98 was at 340. I think this is because the Zip Strips introduce a lot of extra weight into the head. The Shift has better control and feels normal, but the Bolts win all day for power and stability.

Isn't Auxetic similar in that it stiffens up the racket the harder you swing?
@TennCom
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
I suppose Auxetic could be interpreted that way. The material is supposed to expand when its flexed which I suppose would generate a stiffer feel under pressure. The Auxetic feel is much more mild when compared to the Shift. Even the most Auxetic frames (which I think are the Speeds) feel relatively normal compared to this.

@@prophetmargin7497 no. I stopped customizing racquets to "fix" them for reviews because I think manufacturer's should make racquets that play well stock. Obviously the money involved is different, but you don't see people replacing suspension on cars for their reviews if they think it handles poorly. The other thing is we all like different things from our racquets. Many people, like you, prefer extra weight at 3 and 9, whereas I typically prefer the weight at 12. If I really think a racquet needs customization to come alive, I'll make a video to discuss it.
