This was great - I live in Colorado and have been to the Stanley a few times, you have to go and take the haunted tour, it's amazing

Good stuff mate , really enjoyed the video. I used to manage a dvd and video store in the UK which finally closed in 2013. I get that streaming is a million times more convenient and stuff....but I really miss the atmosphere and ritual of going to a video store. Was something a bit magical about that whole process that made watching the movie more of an "event" that's kind of lost now

Going to blockbuster as a kid was one of my favorite times
@tjanderson58922 жыл бұрын
Remember blockbuster as a kid was always so much fun. Going through the returned movies/games to see if whatever you’re looking for had been returned and not shelved yet. Gum ball machines and running into ppl from your neighborhood. Good times
@Tripartite19372 жыл бұрын
Same here man, it wasn’t just the atmosphere or social ritual of going to the movie store but also the fact that you could find literally any movie ever made and rent it for a couple bucks. If one store didn’t have the movie you’re looking for, go to the next one. Now we’re subservient to online subscription services who choose what they wish to air and it’s actually harder to find or watch all the movies you want to. I miss the movie store ;(

Had to go back and watch The Shining again. Ally's right it is one of the best films ever made. Amazing how Stanley Kubrick creates horror atmosphere mainly with music and soundtrack.

I grew up skiing at Timberline Lodge. Lots of good memories. I remember when I was a little kid they actually did have a hedge maze around the back side of the lodge it was always fun to try to get through as a kid. The Shining is not the only movie to use that Lodge. there are many movies actually filmed on location at Timberline Lodge.

I grew up skiing there with my dad, one of my favorite buildings! So stunning to be there in winter when the snow is up over the door. On a clear day, the view from there is incredible. I hope I can stay there one day.

I have been skiing, then snowboarding for probably as long as I can walk. Although I have been to so many wonderful places and seen beautiful sights in Colorado, Nevada, California, British Columbia, Eastern Canada, Vermont, the Alps, etc, The one place I have always wanted to go and have not yet been, is Mt. Hood Oregon and Timberline Lodge. It's basically 2 birds one stone for me, as I love The Shining as well.

Again with such videos you have to correct them: the REAR of the hotel in The Shining is NOT the front of the hotel. It is CLEARLY different. Only the exterior front of the Timberline Lodge was used in the opening to the film and brief shots showing the changing seasons scatted throughout the film but all of them were taken at the FRONT of the Timberline lodge. The REAR of the hotel seen in the film was built at Elstree studios with the interior of the maze at Borehamwood studios. The night chase thru the maze was filmed on a soundstage as was most of the rest of the film.

I loved seeing all of these places that I take for granted from the perspective of a first time visitor. Timberline is absolutely gorgeous and one of my favorite places, although I’ve never actually stayed there... too pricey, but fun to hang out up there on Mt Hood for the day. Fun fact: it does get warm enough during the summer to open the windows and put the screen in. And all that rain made me laugh, we’re so used it, it’s nothing to us. But I am a SoCal native, when I moved up here in 1980 when I was 12 from Torrance it was quite a culture shock!! Thanks for these videos, Justin, they were a lot of fun to watch!!

I love the comment that Kubrick doesn't attempt to be realistic in his filming because it adds to the unbelievability of what he is trying to portray. There are so many moments in "The Shining" that inconsistencies are so obvious as one is plunged into the intricacy of Kubrick's vision of horror! I absolutely loved Justin's documentary. Yes, Justin: the Timberline is incredible and so is your documentary.

You practically traveled into my backyard. I live at the foot of Mt Hood. Good thing you came now, not too long ago everything was evacuated around that area for the wildfires and the smoke. Timberline Lodge also greatly influenced the interior design of Disney World's Wilderness Lodge, Imagineers came out to take a lot of pictures and did research on the lodge for it. Heavy metal fan was hilarious! Still trying to find those Hobbiton audio mini discs for you.

When you go to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, they have the "haunted" tours, they have a bunch of images and set things regarding the Shining Films and for those who like beer, they can grab a beer called REDRUM. Plus, Colorado is gorgeous so thatll be a great destination for you two one day! Also the inside of the Stanley Hotel is a lot like the inside the "hotel" they used for the films. Its a beaut
