💎In this viewing Danny’s big wheel ride reminds me of the trench scene in Star Wars when Luke flies in to launch the photon torpedo to destroy the Death Star💎

In the original Omen movie, Damian rides a trike around the house, and later kills his mother by knocking her off a balcony. Omen came out in 1976. Because of the "mirror form" videos, I now think Danny was thinking about killing his father from the sandwich scene at the start. He was thinking about it in the Beetle. And he is thinking about it when he rides the trike.

As your wife also noted, it is not uncommon to use 2 colors in hallways. Because the production team was sent to take photos of various hotels, including staff areas, these '2 color corridors' will also be there. Stanley Kubrick wanted the hotel to look realistic.
@tankardoftales46456 ай бұрын
I think the Overlook is an Asylum. And we are seeing the exterior and interior through the eyes of someone who sees the Asylum as a hotel. I do agree that the 2 colors could work for the staff area, but the blue forced air pipes suggest the place is medical or hospital like. And with some of the other stuff seen in the hotel, mostly realistic to be a hotel but something is off.

On the point of arches, the maze has an arch.

One day my Dad painted the hallway to my bedroom light green at the bottom of the wall and white on top. I had seen that before, only in movies. I kind of liked it, but I thought it was weird for a house. My mother said the wall would show less scuff marks that way (as your wife said). Later, I got the idea that a hallway painted like that in a movie = a water scene. Most movies have them, and the classic one is a boat traveling to an island for treasure/adventure/vacation. However, I have never tried this theory out by synch-ing a water or boat scene to an "asylum hallway" scene.
@tankardoftales46457 ай бұрын
Thanks. Sure the combination of the 2 wall colors could go with anyplace, or any public place. The forced air pipes seemed to suggest the place is factory or a hospital type. Maybe the Overlook is an interior of a boat. Or maybe something similar. Stanley Kubrick was playing chess (several steps ahead) for a very long time

@@tankardoftales4645 When Wendy says the hotel is like a "ghost ship", they have just walked down an "asylum" hallway. The seven up cases are on one side of the next hall. The two-toned walls frame them after they turn the corner and as they go past the seven up. The best I can figure is "ghost ship" is an ocean reference and Seven Up is a "seven" reference. Seven seas, maybe. Nothing to do with this story, but script writers do stick to a master formula, in my opinion, and that is why we can find so many match ups between Kubrick movies and all sorts of other films and TV shows.

The pipes would be hot water, or cold water pipes, to or from a boiler or waste pipes. The green colour didn't quite look right so they made them blue. They are waste or water pipes not pneumatic or air pipes.
@tankardoftales46455 ай бұрын
According to every chart I've looked at. And I found a color chart from the 1930s that I've posted in the video. Blue is compressed air and red is fire sprinkler. That's why I talked about the red pipe going to a fire sprinkler. The other pipes by the fire line are water and waste. The blue pipe is also on the otherside of the hallway. Sure this is a movie and you didn't have to think about the color or assuming the context of the pipes. If you dont want to think about that, maybe you should not check my other two videos: the time clock and Henry Callahan office. Because I dive deeper into the Overlook is an Asylum theory. :)

I think the dark set with the arch looks like the place in Dracula's castle where he keeps his coffins, in the Bela Lugosi movie. Dreary basement. Also, I just thought, seeing the name Bela Bartok in the end credits probably would make most people of 1999 think of Bela Lugosi as Dracula, and considering they were just wondering about Jack in the photo, what does that mean? They probably would be triggered by the word Bela to think of vampires, if they didn't already think some kind of vampire hotel thing was going on. Vampires need blood to survive, as Van Helsing explains.
@hermanhale92587 ай бұрын
Also, as I was playing Dracula 1931 and The Shining at the same time, I noticed the way Ullman was moving his hands weirdly in the office scene looked like the hands coming out of the coffins in Dracula's castle at the beginning. First time I have ever seen a good match for Ullman's hands.

@@hermanhale9258 The movie is called The Night Visitor (1970). I strongly believe this movie inspired Stephen Kings The Shining. I think the book was going to be something else, but he fused the "Shining powers." Because Carrie was received very well. (Believe it or not - Carrie the book was inspired from the movie Willard). And Salem's Lot was a retooled fanfiction of Dark Shadows. I'm not calling Stephen King a hack, but you can see the inspiration. I also believe Stanley Kubrick noticed it and mostlikely Kubrick asked King in the phone call. And my assumption is King took it as an insult.

It may seem like I'm splitting hairs, but I think, if anything, SK was trying to imply that the Overlook is something "institutional." Not necessarily an asylum. Though, certainly, an asylum is a kind of institution. I have speculated in a couple of Miss M's threads that the Torrances may not have been alone at the hotel. If that is the case, then the Overlook takes on more of the flavor of an asylum --- especially an asylum with the torturous instincts of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Very interesting video, thanks for the info. The meaning behind the blue pipes is really curious. I wonder if they were being gassed! lol.

Thank you for the comments. Don't worry about splitting hairs, I'm trying to start a conversation and all ideas are welcome. The Overlook does feel institutional.

I may have posted this elsewhere - I think when Ullman says "You'll never know anyone was here" it is a reference to someone else being in the hotel the whole time after Closing Day. At first I thought it was a reference to the worker standing in the hall at the table they just passed - maybe he wasn't really a worker, but some kind of criminal pretending to be a worker. But now...I think it is Ullman. Ha-ha. I really think that, but I know nobody will agree. Who do you think is there?
