Just yesterday I watched them live it was amazing. They played this song double time and LITERALLY EVERYONE was singing along. I've been listening to this song since forever and it was the most magical moment in my life

Did anyone notice the part at 1:05 where he forgets whether it's cry or fly and he kinda rolls his eyes and rolls with crafly

Jon D. Lambert yeah I did I was wondering if anyone else noticed

I think it makes this performance seem even more authentic. He also messes up "raise them up to beg for scraps" in another, acoustic performance. Idk. I still love him.

I agree, with a few exceptions. When he sings "But your lips when we speak are the valleys and peaks of a mountain range on fire," there's so much passion there. Gives me chills and hope every time I hear it.

As an Australian I am amazed at the feeling this song gives me. Considering it was written by Americans.

This is was the first Shins song I heard, and I actually thought they were Australian for the longest time after.

There is but they don't have anyone that can abandon their instrument to pick up the 5 string unfortunately. It does quite a melodic groove to the studio version but live is amazing too.

Australia is one of the few exceptions. Some of their EPs also have more upbeat tunes. It's all good stuff, I was just speaking generally.

Watched this quite a few times now.. I get a bit of a kick out of the opening bars, where Jess Dobson is still sorting out her equipment, the rest of the band have launched off into it & James is giving her the 'evils' with 'C'mon..wtf are you!' looks..!!

I just posted a similar comment on another song. Too true. It feels a helluva lot like Death Cab, Jimmy Eat World, and Modest Mouse to me: just losing that great original sound in favor of appealing to the masses.

The question is why is the song called Australia?
@topdogrlg4 жыл бұрын
Because Australia used to be a prison colony and the song's about escaping the prison that is a 9-5 job

Wo. Misinterpretation. The Shins are not a jump up and down screaming band. They're melancholy in its purest form. They're the kind of band you want to listen to and just sit back hum along and maybe take a drag of a cigarette, even if you don't smoke. The kind of band that when you listen to when feeling overly tired you almost feel as if you're being pumped with oxygen. At least, that's what I feel.
