The song is about his home town Albuquerque and how he felt at the time about everything in his life.

The video is equally compelling for any fan of alternative music from the 80s as if references a number of album covers including Zen Arcade and New Day Rising by Hüsker Dü, Let It Be by The Replacements, Moon Pix by Cat Power, Double Nickels on the Dime by The Minutemen, Squirrel Bait's first EP, Sonic Youth's Sister and Slint's Spiderland ... Wonderful!

Anyone else catch all the album cover references? I noticed Zen Arcade, Let It Be, Double Nickles on the Dime, Spiderland, Moon Pix, Squirrel Bait, and New Day Rising. I know I probably missed a few, though...

I do hope you check out some more songs from them. They’re absolutely one of my all time favorites. I’ll recommend three songs. When I Goose-Step, No Way Down and The Fear.

The album this is off of is a masterpiece. I've played and listened to every kind of music there is and I've never come across something quite like it. It's so beautiful and genuine. Every song is a piece of art in and of itself.

Very nice! Yes, I too was getting a little Simon and Garfunkel feel with the acoustic guitar strumming. I really like an acoustic sound in songs!

Love your reaction, Harri. One of the lyrics I love, was one you referred to- " I hope it's right when you die, old and bony'

I think you nailed this song with the 60s/70s comparison, I think that now explains why I like this song so much. I love Simon and Garfunkel, and especially love Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. I hear it now! Also, great reactions to the Moody Blues.

I'm noticing significant similarities among reaction channels. Some artists and songs are covered frequently, but bands like The Shins, The Strokes and Spoon, who have enjoyed commercial success, have very few reaction vids on YT. It's nice to see them here. Belle & Sebastian are another. Even reactions to master songwriters like the late Elliott Smith neglect songs from albums like XO and Figure 8. These artists may not be household names for a lot of people, but often they were/are taste makers.

I've recently got into reaction vids, it's interesting to see people react to the songs you love. On a whim I looked up the shins reactions but this is the only one I've found. I don't really know how well know the shins are around the world but I'm glad at least one person on here has checked them out.

Someone or something is leaning on the algorithm in terms of what gets recommended to reactors. Maybe Apple, maybe Spotify, I don't know. But it seems in part to follow scheduled re-releases, like when a lot of people were incentivised to discover the Beatles again last year.

shout out to Modest Mouse for helping to get James Mercer and The Shins a lift in the biz..... this song had a really long run.... kept getting re-popular over and over yanno? the movie Garden State started another Shin fad..... McDonald's commercial too, if I remember right..... definitely got marketed after such a grassroots-like start. Shins are still going too btw.... released a single last year called The Great Divide. not sure who's left from the original band but it was really always all about Mercer anyway..... hard to carry a band on your back like that.... Modest Mouse has Brock and Green at least.

Built to Spill are another great band, similar in that Indie way to The Shins; you should really start with "Carry the Zero", great lyrics and great song. HARRI you will love it, promise. Anyone want to join me in this endeavour?
