When boat building was slow, the craftsmen would often get _get-by jobs_ with "regular carpenters," but they were so used to taking such care in building they seemed slow to the slap-it-together house builders, but they say, _"There's never been a house built by a shipwright that's ever sunk."_

12:40 That's my grandfather caulking that boat (George G Story~ about fourth cousin to the boatyard's owner~ John Story's grandson wrote that Gramps had the reputation of being the best caulker in New England).

Warms the cockles to know someone saved this. Slightly corny, but great footage!

And now look what they have done to their town. A beer factory is now the town centerpiece, and we have the screeching noise of amplified "music" to accompany the wedding venue businesses. They have paved the marshes, clear cut the trees, and replaced the beauty and tranquility of a once beautiful seaside village with noise and pollution ... all for the profit of a few opportunistic "entrepreneurs". It is viewed as being so "good for the economy".

This is from 1947, commissioned by Congress as the first of a series about the US, for foreign consumption. Only this one was ever made - the project was cancelled after one installment. (Source: docent at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum)
