Cultural differences, as you might expect. In most countries the top ships often involve their own country (apart from USUK, FrUK, Spain/Romano, and GerIta which are pretty much always in the top 10 somewhere). Top ship in Russia is RusAme, and others include Russia/Prussia, Russia/Germany (rarepair in US fandom). In China as well, some popular ships that are relatively cold in the West are China/Russia, China/Japan, and China/US. It's actually pretty interesting.

TBH as a veteran ameripan shipper I for some reason have a morbid curiosity to what a "the problem with shipping ameripan" video would look like. So far you've made very positive reviews on my OTP and even defended/debunked some of the flaws that people tend to point out with this ship which I'm actually quite surprised about too. Do you happen to ship it too or do you just happen to have respect for it as a ship? Also it's strange to think that way back then this ship was a rare pair, considering that now it's considered one of the more basic ships for both America and Japan...

@@UnhappyChibiWasAlone I see, yeah. I hate how their relationship dynamic got lost in translation... then again many things in the funimation dub get lost for some reason. Like the characters' personalities, relationships, sometimes context even, etc. And yeah I do admit that ww2 was the lowest point for their relationship... I can see why it could cause people to be put off by the ship because of it... but this was the first ship I've ever shipped in the Hetalia fandom and the reason why I shipped them for the first place is because of my experiences as an American and how we seem to be kind of obsessed with Japan and have such a close relationship with them now a days. We've forgiven each other about the war and now we're both in a better place together now. I know what I wrote was pretty sentimental, I just feel really strongly about this sort of thing. XD I don't mind people who don't like it tho. It's not going to be everyone's thing. Also I have been starting to ship other ships with them like ameliet and frus (although I ship the latter in a more platonic way), and for Japan there are several ships that I like with him.

When Portugal first found Japan, they started a commercial business. However, the japanese emperor started getting angry with the portuguese sailors for these two reasons mainly: - The s***** trade they were doing with his own people; - The way christianism was becoming too popular and, in his eyes, putting at risk the other two religions there. So he kicked the portuguese sailors from Japan and k***** almost all christians in his country, regardless if they were portuguese or japanese. It's for these reasons that I always found the (rare anyways - surprised it was even mentioned here) PortPan ship a little... uncomfortable for me to like. But if you ignore the irl history between them, they look cute together.

IT'S LIKE GETTING A STABBACK IN THE HEART, WHY DO THEY KEEP PAIRING? Ppl (like me) just ship these two because they have cute interactions in the anime, plus irl japan and usa have good relations now. Not to mention the characters are forced to listen to their bosses and probably don’t condone the war crimes that happened, so stop acting like the characters are responsible for it :/ you don’t have to ship it, as long as you aren’t going around harassing shippers and canceling them
