Both parents stood by their son. It wasn’t some hard choice she’s struggled with, they left, lost everything. Those who are religious, believe in a higher power, not any single person. Not all Catholics left the church and at least in this case, they dealt with much faster than hundreds of years of known abuse in the church. I am a Christian. I belong to a church. I never understood why they let just anyone watch children in the nursery. It was always women at my church. Women can be sexual predators too. Our church at the moment is having a huge turn over at moment, so our nursery is closed. Society treats our ministers, Bishops, Priests, & other church leaders like Gods. They are not. But throughout history it was literally dangerous for whole Jewish communities if someone would inform authorities on a Jewish person. It had caused pogroms against the innocent along with the guilty. In the US and other countries, this has not been the case for very long. The rule against informing on a fellow Jew has not applied in recent decades, because there was no significant danger. Certainly the danger of abuse is worse. I don't think every man feels that way. Even when I was a teenager, and my hormones started kicking in, I was more turned on by women with more developed bodies. I can't speak for every man but I have never had that issue of thinking about abusing any kids. It would be really interesting to get to the bottom of this. It's hard to rationalise or even see the benefit of it. Is it shame to express themselves sexually so they feel they can do it with a kid because they assume the kid won't resist them? Are they just attracted to children or they are sexually repressed? It would be interesting to get to the bottom of this phenomenon because it shouldn't even exist at all. Btw, a lot of men have also been abused by older women in their younger years, so is that also due to them being repressed and targeting a child to express their sexuality? If we can figure this out then we can teach a more healthy mindset vis a vis sexuality that would eliminate this stuff. That's may be sounding too optimistic but I still want to believe in humanity.

So sorry for manny, his family, avb and any other victims, which I'm sure there were. It's vital that any organisation allows their people to have a safe space to raise concerns. If they want to do good, worship God, have a good community, any of these things, then the bare minimum should be to want to root out any wrongdoing and wrongdoers. To make it hard to speak out against abuse just makes a mockery of the pretence of religion and community. Those who seek to hide it away and shun people who raise these issues are implicit in these crimes and have no right to claim they are religious. It surprises me avb and his family want to stay in the community that is letting them down so much ... mannys mum too. Especially given manny wasnt her only son affected. But at least in Sydney they made changes whereas Melbourne where avb is, they took way too long to go. I'm glad they finally did. But i still would not want to stay there. I don't believe the perpetrator who said he was also abused and them became an abuser too but somehow does not understand the long term ramifications.
