Yes I'm not sure I'll go coilovers. The out of the box performed, perfect stance for the wagon, firm but have no issues with the worlds worst roads in California reminds me of the top gear African special. Apparently they have a lifetime warranty although I have never had a chance to send any in to verify the coverage of that. If it was a track car I'd consider coilovers for the adjustments but with these b8s being set up the right way they don't need adjustments. They just work the way they should perfectly. They bolt in perfectly. They ride comfortably. They make no noises. They give you no headaches. They just work and then perform work and perform perform work. Just remember to replace your hardware if it's aged. It is a McPherson strut and it is a part of your steering system. So there is bearings and bushings in that top hat that do wear. If you have 200,000 mi, it's a good idea to go ahead and do that. If you're going to put new suspension in and use a spring compressor for god sakes don't die

Guys plz read this: The biggest difference between B8 and B4s is the LONGEVITY. One of my front B4s was shot after 20.000miles/ 32.000km (1 1/2 years of use). The B8 shocks/struts last MUCH longer. B8 shocks/struts and OEM msport springs is a very very good combination. Eibach sportkit springs and B8 shocks/struts will be a bit on the harsh side. In any case the tyres are very important/ more important than B8 vs B4s. In normal temperatures (not very cold) try Michelin Pilot Sport 4 or 5 or the very very good Falken Azenis FK 510 / 520. These tyres will last less than others but the grip they provide is amazing.

I had my wife's 2010 Golf struts replaced with B4 and they are excellent. The Bilstein website says it's about 10% stiffer, I think maybe 15-20%. The motions is quicker but much smoother. When you are going over speed bumps at low speeds; it feels very compliant but will firm up when you are driving at higher speeds. The price is very good also. I just placed an order for a set of B4 on my 2018 Q5. Can't wait to have them on my car.

A tip: if you tighten the rear shock absorbers on the lift with the wheels hanging, the rubber bearing on the shock absorber is fixed in this atypical position and permanently twisted to the maximum in everyday use. So just screw in the bolt and either lower the car completely and tighten it on the ground (uncomfortable) or lift the axle to the normal position with a gearbox jack.

The rear shock bottom mounting bolt, should be torqued with the suspension loaded. Otherwise it all looks good. Bouncing is more due to the spring rates, a bit less so about the dampers. Monotube is better overall. Most ppl will get the spring rates wrong, and even the manufacturers sell spring rates that are not suited for the car. Look up "flat ride" harmonics.

I have a 2013 Mercedes C63 (W204) and it had the original suspension in it. So I did some research and put a set of Eibach springs & Bilstein B8 shocks all round. Well... Honestly, you'd best keep the number of a good chiropractor on speed dial, I mean it was absolutely brutal. Basically felt like there wasn't any suspension in it at all. Granted, on highways with smooth surface it was awesome, but 99% of the time it is on suburban streets that are just horrible. Anyway, put up with it for about 3mths, ripped out the B8's and replaced them with B4's. Much more tolerable.

I didn't quite understand that. Have you now fitted B6 at the front and B8 at the rear? The B4 damper is the same as the OE damper. It is neither better nor worse. From the B6 damper onwards, Bilstein uses better and higher quality technology, which is identical from the B6 to the B16, except that from the B14 onwards it is coilover suspension. I have installed the complete B12 suspension in my BMW 650i and I can say from my own experience that the car drives much better, quieter and more stable at top speed (German Autobahn) than in comparison to the standard suspension. Basically, I don't believe in lowering springs on standard dampers. On the B12, the dampers and springs are matched to each other (B8 = shortened B6).

Here are the facts: The B4s felt as if they were "dancing" because, they were fitted with Lowering Springs. Thus, the shock was already compressed. The B8s (on the other hand) felt more composed because, the tube is shorter - thus, not compressing prematurely when on lowering springs. In order to make a comparison - each set-up needs to be tested under the conditions they are designed for. If anyone wants a more "Track" capable car, then B8s and lowering springs are your option. If you wish to refresh your suspension and keep the stock ride height, then B4s do provide a slight dampening advantage over stocks. B8's will ride hard, so if you daily - then be prepared for a jolting ride.

Should I then buy M springs from another brand or Bilstein springs but not suitable for M chassis?
@OEMplusRESTO Жыл бұрын
Im no expert on E60's though i love them too. But id go for a m chassis spring as the normal rideheight will have to be compressed alot to fit on a (what i assume) is a shorter M chassis shock. But if the old springs arent rusty or looks to be liek theyre about to break id reuse them. Springs are almost non service items if rust doesnt get to them first

Here is my 800 like 😄 Is the B8 a lot more stiff compare with 330CI stock *on the rear? Currently on my 330CI sits on coilovers ( don't remember the brand )... it's fine on the front but too soft on the rear, I have put some eibach spings on the rear, but still too soft on speed bumps ( it feels almost like boat )... So I'm wondering should I go for B8 just on the rear, want to have more sporty feel but still some comfort ( it's dally driver ) don't want to be super stiff when you go over a speed bump to hear all the interior plastic cracking 😅
