Which results in them being incredibly lazy with their naming of their children etc. I think it's the perfect plot!!

"Money-lending is evil" and "Drug addicts are evil" show an absolutely unhinged idea of morality

Lucky for me I'm a money-lending drug addict, that makes it a double negative.
@AuntLoopy1232 жыл бұрын
Money-lending is not evil. Charging exorbitant rates of interest is evil. But the party-member did not even mention interest. Just "Have this today, and pay me back later." And drug addicts are not evil. Doing evil acts to fuel their addiction is evil, but if they're not doing anything to hurt anyone, then they're not evil. And do you know how many drug addicts were PUSHED into addiction by adults trying to control them, as children? Or evil drug-dealers thinking "These kids at a playground are GREAT customers! Firsts one's free, and then they do whatever they can to earn money for their next hit, because they're young and stupid. HAHAHAHA!" It's not black and white. And even if it were, this guy is NOT "the law," and does NOT get to declare that RANDOMLY killing drug addicts makes him good, because "drug addicts are evil, anyway." The LAW requires a proper trial and execution BY the law, not RANDOMNESS. Also, dealing drugs, straight or cut, is ILLEGAL, no matter who is doing it. As long as the law against drugs is on the books, it's on the books, and even the crown prince is breaking the law, if he decides to do it.

@@emberfist8347 so in 5e paladins aren’t required to be lawful or good anymore. It’s more about the oath. @craigtucker12902 жыл бұрын
Trying to claim all the gold, no matter the need, is being chaotic (selfish), and selling harmful drugs is an evil act. The DM should have changed the PCs alignment and then checked to see if the paladin lost their status by violating their oath. This just highlights bad DMing when you have a problem player like this. A good DM might have curtailed the problem player by changing their character's alignment to reflect the character's actions, as the DM is supposed to do, and by stripping the paladin's powers for most probably breaking their oath, as the DM is also supposed to do. However, I like that DM let the PvP play out and correct the problem.
@ZorgoXorgon2 жыл бұрын
Most tables nowadays don't stick so closely to alignment rules as it isn't required anymore, but yes such a move might've curtailed the behavior before it went this far. But then we wouldn't have Raladin, haha!
@AuntLoopy1232 жыл бұрын
@@ZorgoXorgon It is not required that a paladin be lawful good. A paladin's alignment must reflect the god they worship, and whose holy (or unholy) power gives them their paladin abilities. In other words, they have to behave as a paladin of whatever patron deity they chose. If a paladin of Tiamat goes around founding orphanages and giving away money to widows and feeding the poor, then Tiamat is going to take away her powers, unless he has a VERY compelling reason, such as, "It's all part of my devious plan to convince the entire nation that I'm the best man around, and they should give me absolute power, because I'm so good and trustworthy, and then, when I have absolute power, and they are powerless to take me down, I will become an absolute tyrant, in your name!" But otherwise, if you claim one alignment, and then do the opposite, you LOSE your paladin powers. And dealing diluted drugs is both illegal and evil, the opposite of lawful good. So, he should have lost his powers, because he was breaking his paladin oath to be lawful good. It's like a True Neutral paladin would get in trouble with his god for choosing a side in a war, unless he justified it as, "That side has held power for too long, and now I need to balance the world, by ousting them from power, and putting this other group in power. For a time."

And then my party got all uppity and continued to save their comrade, instead of dropping him and saving me, instead, and letting him die, and so you have to go seek vengeance for me, and KILL THAT MONK, who had the nerve to NEED SAVING, all because of MY actions!" Wait, no way he said that last phrase. More like "All because he was too weak to last through a battle with the bad guys! The weak should just die, already, and decrease the surplus population." And then the ghost disappeared to go to an armor shop and try to haunt a suit of plate armor, and walk it out of the store, but the store keeper had magical wards set up, to avoid theft, so Aladin's ghost, who refused to just stop haunting the plate armor, has been stuck wandering around that warded shop, ever since.

The Paladin kept their current slots for spells that aren’t subclass specific, but Divine Smite doesn’t work and wastes the spell slot. If the player doesn’t repent, then they remain unpowered. If they then change vows, including for dark ambitions, and get another divine being to acknowledge the act, _then_ they can switch subclasses. Paladin: Why are you doing this to me! DM: Your character broke their oath, which despite the name doesn’t automatically qualify you for Oathbreaker. I’m giving you the same treatment as a Warlock who hasn’t upheld their bargain.
