If I were Jack, this would be called, "The story of how Karen got left at a Nebraskan gas station and I ordered a pizza."
@oliveranderson928
@oliveranderson928 6 жыл бұрын
Perhaps it's because the story is told from Jack's perspective or because I have a hyper-empathy problem, but I couldn't for the life of me understand how Karen couldn't see how much the showers bothered him. I wanted to pop her in the jaw a few times. People like that frustrate me so much.
@oliveranderson928

No srsly as someone suffering with mental illness and trauma who can very well relate to how she's feeling, fuck Karen. I'm not through the story yet, but I will not feel much sadness if something happens to her. Maybe it's because she has the same name as someone I know who's really awful, but there isn't a thing about her that I can stand.
@supermutantsam1160
@supermutantsam1160 6 жыл бұрын
I mean, Jack does say that she's a bad influence on him. Her being a terrible person who either is totally ignorant of or willfully ignores his emotional trauma isn't all that surprising. After all, from what we know of this relationship, the two don't seem to actually share that much of a true connection. Jack says that she, "understands," him, but what does that really mean? Does she truly empathize with his situation, or does Jack just perceive her twisted interest in his story as such? Jack seems to be a textbook case of the unreliable narrator, so how can we be certain that Karen even cares about him? Jack admits to using Karen as a means to cope, so why couldn't Karen also be using him for an ulterior purpose?

@@lilatune pfff I mean, my online handle is, but my name is Jackson irl. I'm not shy sharing that, my first and last name aren't rare, nor is it even my legal name yet, since I still need to get it properly changed. This username I've used for like 6 years now, I made it when I was like 12 because I liked Japanese stuff and was wanting to make friends, so I just put into google translate "killer" and then threw it together. It's funny cause people assume I made it in reference to Death Note, but I watched Death Note post-username. It's funny to talk about because the cause was kinda cringe, but I really love the username, and it used to be more familiar to me than my legal name, before I became Jack. (I'm a trans guy, so I chose my name, technically. That's a whole other story on how I chose the name I did, if ya wanna hear it, lmfao.) Sorry for rambling and dumping a story on you, I like to talk about this stuff, and I'm a bit of a talker. (Partially cause I got ADHD and talking a lot is a bit of that tbh, although I'm also just a huge talker and person who likes to share a lot, especially anecdotes and stories.) Hope it's not too annoying. Thanks for replying though! Hope your day is wonderful! :)

Two men came upon the showers, cold and damp in morning hours One man said "inside we go!" the other man said "oh, no. no. no." So went one within the walls, to hear the echoes and the calls Then shouting, raving, he did call out, "By god man let me out!" All fell silent in the showers, cold and damp in morning hours And one man crouched a whistling, as he chewed on gristling Of the man who shouted out, "Please god let me out!" For when you go to secret showers, in the cold damp morning hours Go alone and not with friend, for friend shall fiend and then shall rend while whistling a silly tune, a military song, over body hewn For madness lies without not in, and trapped you'll be there within And witness you, your own demise, in your friends maddened eyes. In the showers cold and red, quiet now save for the dead.

Honestly, I don’t feel the same way. I felt as though the children, or whatever entity that was possessing those showers, was only out to scare them and not to harm them. Both times the main character went into the building the children had every opportunity to hurt him or kill him if they wanted to, but both times they let him go for no reason. After the first time this happened I felt as though the stakes were greatly lowered for his return. Don’t get me wrong, the story was well written, but you have to admit this was a flaw.

This one is interesting to me. Though, I'm sure the story is fictional, there's some chatter about it a couple years before it came out and it's consistent with this one. IE, someone asking about it a year before the story with that OP saying they heard about it in a previous post blah blah blah. From my search, the very first post is on Yahoo answers from 2010. 2 full years before the story was posted,. It seems to go deeper than that but I cant find anything before that.

You probably won't see this since it's been over a year since you posted this, but most of the creepypastas online have been around for a couple of years. There's just so many out there that it can take a long time for the narrator's to either get around to do them or even find them. There's also always the possiblility that the original post was stolen from someone more influential in the creepypasta community and that's why it seems like it may be real. All of that aside, this is one of my absolute favorites that mcp has ever done though. His narration brings so much life and added character to the already great main characters. Though I wasn't too fond of how Karen, or maybe I just hate those types of people in general idk haha

Mr. Mayes sounds so awesome. 52 minutes in, and I'm deeply immersed in the atmosphere. This is the best story I have ever heard make such an atmosphere. Even got me paranoid! I love it! Spoilers: I'm done with it now. By the third part, I didn't feel paranoid or experience the same atmosphere. I had a feeling of dread and wanted Jack to not return at all costs. But once in the tunnel and things started happening, it wasn't like before. It was still and cold. I felt no paranoia, no dread, or anything negative nor positive. Pure emptiness and nothingness. But around the end I felt a twinge of dissatisfaction due to the rise of atmosphere, then I'm presented with what I'm not sure with. But the feeling nothingness was probably deliberate for that part. If so, I commend you. But listening to this story showed me what my fear is. I now know what it is, and am grateful for this story to have helped.

I like the story a lot but I have so many questions. Where did the body of Mr Mayes' friend go? What was the significance of deer down there? What WERE the children and why were they there? How did they get there? What was the significance of the two ladies who said the exact same damn thing about it, and were obviously related? Did they take all of these children and kill them underground? What was the motive, the method? How much of this was real and how much was in his head? Was the smell of death BECAUSE of the children or something else like whatever water came from the showers? Was it because their bodies were buried down there in the muck somewhere? There was just a lot that either wasn't explained or completely went over my head. Someone please send help in the form of explanations or theories

The supernatural events of the showers are an allegory to traumatic experiences involving insanity and deranged dread and mental illness in general. The light turning and cutting off symbolizes the destruction of reality into incorherant mad dread. The children stand for your own personal demons coming for you, the uncertainty of what they do when they get you represents the fear of letting your problems overtake you. The animal screaming also represents this, it's the inability to ignore/cope with the situation. The door represents the matrix of your greatest fears, when it's opened all hell breaks loose as a consequence of a person being forced to confront that what they fear the most And the showers and fluids represent the state of mind of people who go through such things as this. This whole creepypasta is an allegory of overcoming traumatic experiences that hold you back

yeah , she was a big reason why i found this story so frustrating to listen to. the narration was great as always, a lot of the descriptions were cool, but i just couldn't stand any of the characters. i get that not all stories are supposed to have likeable personalities as the center focus but when it gets to the point of feeling like i want to tear my hair out because of how cartoonishly toxic even just one person is, the tension in that one person being in danger becomes nonexistent (by the end of the story i hated karen so much that i would've been totally fine if jack had just left her ass down there if im being honest lol)

You know how to tell these stories perfectly, I remember being 12 and getting my first glimpse into the internet with my very first phone. I was always into horror and McCreepyPasta is how I spent most of my school nights and summer time. My friend and I were wrapped up into creepy pastas until the slender man stabbing in Wisconsin. I live in a small town about an hour away from where it happened. But I’ve been getting into these stories again, I’m 18 now, and these haven’t changed from my childhood. Still keep me up all night, questioning shadows in the corners of my room that just end up being piles of clothes. But no matter how scared I get, I keep clicking for more, your voice and the way you narrate these tales just keeps me hooked. Really happy you’re still telling these stories, and I hope you don’t stop anytime soon. Your posts are always a highlight in my notifications 💕

Dude. Lemme just tell you this. You're by far my favorite creepypasta reader. I find it so fascinating how you read all these creepypastas. It's like you put yourself in the character's shoes and emerse yourself in certain environments. As I listen to you, I notice how strangely soothing and bone chilling your voice is when you lower your tone to describe some of the more disturbing scenes, and when you raise your tone to stimulate either fear, anger, or insanity in a character, I find myself getting very disturbed. You are the master at this kind of stuff, even though sometimes you repeat lines at certain points. You are the reason why I decided to start my own creepypasta-reading channel. Thanks for inspiring me for so long.

*he goes down the stairs after karen* *the walls slowly close in a bit* "I honestly, truly didn't think you'd fall for that. In fact, I devised a much better trap for when you got through that easy one. If it would've been that easy, I would've just dangled a turkey leg from the ceiling."

I’ve watched this so many times and it never gets old I can’t even listen to anyone else tell this story because this guys voice, the way he tells it, fits it so well.

Holy shit that ending. This is the sort of open-ended implication that I love from these sorts of stories. Good shit man!

When I first heard you read The Showers, I was in high school, around the same age as Jack was when he first heard the story. For some reason I don’t think I listened to the second part until I was in college, around the same age as Jack when he went to the showers himself. Finally when I listened to the last part, I was out of college, probably a good bit younger than him when he went the second time, but still I could definitely relate to that feeling of living a shitty life. The fact that this story has almost grown with me over the years is almost poetic

Myuu's work coupled with Mrcreepypasta's narration makes these stories 1000 times better. (Not to say they aren't amazing on their own)

The writer of this story used to be my boss at a movie theater. He moved to a new job, though. I miss him, he was a good guy.

Thank you mrcreepypasta. I’m not a fan of TV and the quality of movies these days and find myself only listening to the stories you post. I’ve been listening to you for years and hope for many to come. Thank you for your work.

You have such a tremendous storytelling ability You have really given me a sort of inspiration I would love to start narrating creepy pastas. I know that the art is somewhat lost since creepypastas became like old news but I still think they may be appreciated. I really would love to try to conjure up the imaging that you were able to do with your voice escalating and then quieting and then everything you're able to do is just such an amazing talent I think you're great.

I honestly haven't felt this terrified of a story in a while. It's not a lot out of the ordinary, but the way you read it was incredible. I literally cried and one point because of how urgent and scared you sounded. Kudos my dude
