Hi guys, I really appreciate your videos and like you said 20 years of being a school teacher it’s not easy and the good thing about it is you’re still healthy enough to enjoy living on a narrow boat I absolutely loved but unfortunately they don’t have them here in Australia. Haven't been down Turley for a couple of years, but there used to be a notice on the locks warning you of the shelf and to ensure you could go straight into the next lock.

There is a method for reducing the bywash when going up the locks on the Shroppy. Once the lock is empty and the lower gates are open, you raise the top gate paddles so that the excess water is running through the lock and not out the bywash, it is easier to drive straight into the flow than it coming from one side. Once the boat is in the lock you shut the lower gates and open the top paddles further. Even the volly locky or did not know this method and looked at me puzzled.
