So I had my PD do another lipid test and everything was optimal. I have been doing keto and IF since September and I feel awesome! I come to the conclusion that I have been lied to all my life. Ie. This is very good. I have treated hyperglycaemia through intermittent fasting and a simple diet (no sugar, no flour, very limited carbohydrates generally, high fat) for nearly ten years and have recently gone back on this diet after a year off it due to an unrelated gastric episode - with my blood glucose rapidly normalising. The one thing I would take issue with is the continued use of the term 'Type 2 diabetes'. This should be declared obsolete, as 1. it encourages doctors to treat insulin resistance as a 'type' of diabetes, that can be treated successfully with the same drugs; and 2. it makes patients believe that they have the 'disease' of diabetes. I think real diabetes should be called chronic hyperglycaemia and so-called Type 2 diabetes should be called acute hyperglycaemia - a term which implies that it can be treated.

Add peripheral neuropathy to the list. Tingling/numbing in feet and hands. The excess sugar reacts with the nerves that then get attacked by the immune system. A reduction of blood sugar and weeks/months for the body to heal and it resolves itself.

Great video, thank you. Everyone should get a blood glucose monitor. It is surprising what “healthy” foods do to blood glucose levels. Tomatoes and bell peppers spike my glucose as much as a mars bar. I have worked my way through my diet and eliminated everything that spikes glucose above 7.5. Intermittent (OMAD) and occasional prolonged (2-3 days) fasting have improved my skin, removed skin tags, improved my eyesight, lost belly fat, and lowered blood pressure. High intensity (sprinting uphills) has also made a noticeable improvement in my overall glucose levels (now 4-5.5 from 6-7.5).

I had irregular periods and other symptoms of PCOS. When I discussed trouble conceiving with my doctor, he gently suggested I lose weight as a first step (in 2005). I was somewhat overweight but not obese. I lost weight and got pregnant unexpectedly several months later--ovulation was not even close to where I had expected it in my cycle. Not long after, I learned about the link between PCOS and insulin resistance. I struggle but don't give up trying to stay at a healthy weight since I know my risk for T2 diabetes is high.

I can’t seem to keep my lipids in check. Since starting low carb, my inflammation is way down, I don’t need my vitamin supplements, including the iron, and I’m full between meals. I’ve got hypertension, Pre diabetic have had ultrascans which has shown a high build up of visceral fat around my liver I’m overweight and aged 56. I have had a long issue with depression which isn’t helped by me having ADHD essentially I have been going from job to job for the last12 years getting sacked, losing my rag and resigning. Each time I’m out of work I become very depressed and struggle with motivation feeling my overweight condition so that when i start a new job, because I’m an engineer, it’s usually a high stress job and I find I’m never resting, my ADHD makes me hyper focus , be hyper analytical and I take ages to do simple jobs. All this leads me to finding it difficult to switch off, unable to enjoy my hobbies and find very little satisfaction in things. I find that projects I take on I can’t seem to complete and I can’t give them up through pride, sense of failure…. In a nutshell all this shit is fuelling my depression, my lethargy, I overeat, snack and don’t exercise because I have lost interest …viscous cycle etc… I don’t know how to get off this cycle and I know it’s killing me. I’m seeing a psychiatrist for my ADHD and I’m on dexamphetamine. I have been on pregablin since 2008 first prescribed for symptoms like GAD and I’m on antidepressants Venlafaxine, I have hyperthyroidism and on Levothyroxine and on amlopiden for my hypertionsion. Im currently about 116Kg, height 172cm waist is about 42cm …. I think I’m fucked and because of my ADHD i can’t organise my diets … I really struggle with organising food have a shelf book of cookbooks… you’ve heard it all…. Been to counselling … I give up

In my experience, my doctor doesn’t seem to be interested in my wellness; she just wants to keep prescribing medications and scheduling procedures. Because if I’m healthy, whole, and well, she doesn’t make any money and she knows it. That’s why I’ve decided to take responsibility for learning more on my own.

Now I have a question… As you know since you’ve been expanding and growing your wealth of knowledge as well as applying that with your patience and yourself to see the changes either positive or negative it gives you more insight. As you know I’m sure, a lot of the food supply does not contain the nutrition that is required for our bodies to maintain homeostasis. It is true that there’s a lot that needs to be eliminated and that we need to go back to basics and eat whole foods which are made as they were intended to work with other nutrients and feed the body also very important to eat seasonally therefore you’re getting a variety of nutrition. Here’s where the question comes in… When you realize that you’ve tested the body and it itself is toxic for deficient what happens when you don’t test the food? And you’re having to rely on other people to supply that food and are under the false assumption that it already contains everything required for the body? The second part of this question is what happens when a person isn’t familiar with the proper way of preparing these foods in order to maximize their ability to attain nutrition let’s just say assuming that it’s available.? The third part of this question is what happens when an individual has a compromised digestive system and cannot absorb nutrition whether they are or not? Hippocrates (The father of medicine and decreed that every doctor takes an oath on before they begin their professional careers as physicians) once said … Let thy food be thy medicine And Thy Medicine thy food he also said that the key to good health is the gut I’m sure you’ve said it in other videos but have not mentioned it here, and that is that carbohydrates generally convert in a body to sugar so there’s a car’s insulin resistant and metabolic syndrome would it not? What happens if you’re missing one of your major minerals which has been tied in to diabetes insulin resistance high blood pressure headaches stress levels increasing and the like? So now for the most important question of all, Is it possible to take a Whole Foods supplement of the of the nutrients required in order to offset the deficiency what should affect the toxicity should help the body to repair itself and achieve homeostasis? The recommendation I would be making as well as changing your lifestyle is to incorporate other plant medicines which can help you achieve those goals because unless you were growing your food, and you are replenishing the soil with compost which is devoid of animal products because of the risks and there are even though some people will swear by doing so… You’re not guaranteed absolutely anything. It is just an assumption on the part of the individual because of the data collected on the potential of these plant foods which contain the nutritional value that a person requires. But it isn’t factual and it isn’t likely that and today’s so society regardless of where you live, that you are actually receiving those nutrients in the plants which you have purchased as food. Too much corruption in agriculture particularly commercial and then you have the Nolan void affect from the usage of chemicals or pesticides which absolutely depletes or eradicate any nutrition the plant may have had but upon testing they have discovered that many of these plants do not contain the nutrients they are known for because the soil itself was devoid This is the problem with people trying to focus in one area they don’t have all the information that is required to make good decisions and so they assumed that by taking this advice which is really great advice and I appreciate it and want to say thank you., That that is all that is required of them but honestly educating them and having them educate themselves is absolutely essential. Otherwise we take for granted that we are doing the proper things and yet we’re not achieving the results we expected because there are things we did not know. Some people would throw the baby and bathwater out for that very reason and go back to living a traditional lifestyle which as we know is like playing Russian roulette. People will lose steam and the will to try to thrive instead of just simply succumbing to survive It’s quite devastating when you’re passionate about something and you want to really help people achieve good health and you do your part as a caring and concerning physician who took your oath quite seriously and are actively in service to assist others in doing their part in taking care of their first home, their first vehicle in the temple were there Immortal self resides So I am a house I get an iPhone on this journey for 15 years and I suffered with some of the same issues. And the reason being is because it was also passed down from generation to generation seven people in the medical industry use references like it’s genetic or your genetically disposed my brain works differently on those matters. There’s a lot that has been passed down and quite frankly a lot of these are deficiencies because the DNA becomes weaker and weaker with every generation. Finding out where those weaknesses are taking a look at a persons lifestyle making suggestions on how to address these issues cannot only change the individuals life but if they do these modifications before they ever bear children that could eradicate the issue for future generations. I don’t think people look at our current food system as being that important. But if they did they would then consciously be able to determine that the choices that they’re making isn’t just affecting themselves negatively but it will harm the people that they are passing those lies onto and not just verbally but also quite physically. Because what happens is the children will eat like the parents do and these become lifelong habits and those habits can be extremely detrimental to a persons well-being. The school systems are not teaching the truth and they’re not even focusing on important things much like medical schools were not teaching much in the way of nutrition because they have compartmentalized health and they’re looking at a person as parts not a hole Now we also have the issue of how a person feels physically whether they’re conscious or subconscious is picking up on it translating to mental imbalances and then we look at the state of affairs in humanity we start to realize that all these dots are connected and it’s a dominoes effect I don’t think the subject matter could ever be exhausted to be completely honest because every time you unpack one truth it unfolds truths in other areas that were not visible before. The way that we think about things affects the way that we feel at her also affects the choices that we make and everyone is on their own journey and in a different space. Knowledge does not equal wisdom unless it’s applied and there are some circumstances that prevent an individual from living a life that they know is best for them it could be a set of circumstances such as myself. I have to make do with what available because I do not have the capacity or the resources at this time to do things in a traditional way or what is recommended in this video but even if I did there would still be issues that would come up around some of the content I’m already mentioned in this text But I have subscribed I have liked your video and I will be listening to more of what you have to say

Hi Doc, thank you so much for this. Been low carb high fat for around 7 years since a South African friend told me about Dr Tim Noake. It blew me away, I was just a bit dumpy, but the extra stone or so that I have been wrestling with since I was around 15 years old more or less went. I wasn’t religiously glued to the eating regime, saw it as a diet like all the others I had used over the decade - stick to it till the weight goes and then eat relatively normally until you have to ‘diet’ again. Gradually I discovered Diet Doctor, Ben Birman, Jason Fung, followed KZbinrs like ketorewind and Keto Fitness Club and understood that it is a totally systemic holistic lifestyle. My ambition is now to die healthy, I want to have a really good ‘healthspan’ as well as lifespan. I am 65, female, always had blood pressure on the low side, no meds, take vit D through the winter as well as vit C with zinc and magnesium. I still go too ‘off the rails’ at Christmas and always struggle to slow the supertanker of carbs in the new year but I do get there and try to maintain my ketogenic lifestyle. I am mostly carnivore, when I am on top of my game I am OMAD, and every few months I do a 5-7 day fast. Thank you for the great work that you and all the others do to promote this healthy lifestyle xx

I declined statins too but that was after an ASD closure. My blood sugar and blood pressure are good so there had to be another reason why I felt fatigued all the time. I eliminated certain foods, tried keto, tried vegetarian, had a IgE test to discover food intolerances and allergies. I tried the amazing liver and gallbladder flush and drink tinctures for my kidneys and that was good but the thing that really works for me is breathing properly. I used to mouth breathe. Now I only breathe through my nose. My food cravings are rare and my weight and shape are reasonable. Who'd have thought it? That breathing method is simple but tough to do. It's called Buteyko, and I chose the classical method. It rid me of my asthma so I commend it to everyone who wants better health

very interesting info, while I remember what are your thoughts on using japanese knotweed for dealing with insulin resistance & the herbs - perilla, kudzu, holy basil, white korean ginseng, amur corkbark, propolis, quercetin & oleuropein for boosting weight loss?

This is such valuable information. I'm happy to find your channel. I really appreciate the information, as well as, your background and perspective. After some blood work, a couple of years ago, after years of not going to the doctor, I was led to look at my blood work and see what it told me because the doctor didn't have much to say about it. Can years of high stress/ cortisol be a contributing factor to insulin resistance? I'm trying to put the pieces together to how I got here to cultivate a better health/ longevity. And also, possibly to help empower my children and other young people with information and example of my healing, to go down the road of health and well-being instead of disease.

I have read that there is a connection between Hashimoto's disease and a fatty liver. What are your thoughts on this?

The blood glucose values you presented are they in a fasted state or after eating?
@marlenegold2802 жыл бұрын
If you are insulin sensitive, your postprandial blood glucose should quickly go back to pre-meal level with 1-1 hours. Less is more. The more insulin resistant one is, the longer it takes for blood sugar to return to the fasted blood sugar. The body becomes less efficient. The wrong diet worsens things, Nutritional deficiencies, Eating all the time, not letting pancreas rest, Fructose, Processed seed oils, Processed food products, Poor sleep, shift work, Vitamin D deficiency, Being sedentary Abusing alcohol, Stress, acute or chronic Illness like an infection can increase risk, Smoking, Numerous prescription meds have side effects resulting in increased blood sugar (like statins)

I would suggest adding fasting insulin as a test and HOMA-IR (fasting insulin and fasting glucose). Easy and cheap to do and extremely important early flags. My parter is a pediatrician and now performs HOMA-IR for kids with the obvious signs (like skin conditions ot weight and waist related).

My GP wouldn’t do additional bloodwork to check my thyroid. His exact words were that he didn’t do tests he hadn’t heard of.. he had no idea what IR was either.. it’s a common thing unfortunately…

I think there is another one at least - frozen shoulder syndromes . Seeing people who get it being in such deep distress make me hope I never get it . Nearly every patient coming for medical imaging for frozen shoulder were ' heavy ' and the men obviously heavy at the waist .

Tell that to my GP and nurse over taking your bloods for type 2s Every time I get treated like a child and the HBA1c is the gold standard when it isn’t when I test daily with new foods so I know what causes the highs or lows. I self fund this as they refused for long enough till I went on a drug that causes hypos and even then I only get a one pack of 50 strips for a month only. Don’t get me started on statins as everyone over 40 apparently should be on them according to the guidelines. I refused point blank now to take them as in the past I did. Never ever again.

My key takeaway is that NO doctor I’ve worked with my entire life is at all willing to work with me to improve/reverse my path away from metabolic syndrome; will only prescribe medication. Statins and metformin are the only things discussed even when I bring up that I’m ketovore/carnivore for the last 4 months and am actively working to reverse years of a horrible, government and doctor recommended diet. It took a long time to get unhealthy so I think it will take awhile to get metabolically healthy. I won’t take the meds and will continue to be ultra low carb an get movement in. I wish I could find a doctor willing to work with me!

Take charge of you own health and life, low carb, eat healthy, fasting is great! And it’s important to exercise at least 3&4 days a week, walking and lifting weights.

Enjoyed this video immensely! It makes absolute sense to me Our life styles have romped ahead of our body’s capacity to adjust. OMAD just naturally for most of my adult life but keeping carbs in check in my evening meal has been very difficult in our home. We love Keto though it’s so difficult, the prep time and cost is restrictive so where do we go, we end up with carbs it’s everywhere it’s such a pain. Thanks Doc.
