spoke to the lead singer of this band a few times. he recorded this song when he was just 16 and had absolutely no idea how precious or important what he was doing would turn out to be. he just turned up, sang the vocal and got on with other stuff. what a stunning beautiful song. the scottish bands really nail it sometimes. i want someone scottish to adopt me. so glad i love in this wonderful country.xx

They were essentially blacklisted for Painted Moon. The english establishment didn't like a Scottish group pointing out the hypocrisy of starting a war (Falklands) to rouse patriotic fervour and raise Thatcher's popularity. The UK government of the time conspired to escalate The Falklands situation into a shooting war. Britains two closest NATO allies the US and France provided the weapons to shoot British soldiers and blow up British ships. Argentina were up to the eyeballs in debt to both and France allegedly had kill switches built into ordnance sold to Argentina. Essentially the tory government told the US and France not to interfere.

This is one of those songs you hear on the radio growing up and recognise it as great but for some reason never investigate further. Then you hear it again years later out of the blue and it gives you that thrill again, "ahhh that song!". Now I know who it is by and I'm Scottish as well!

Played this in a band in the 80's - great number to play! The Silencers were so under rated. What the hell this is to do with sectarianism is beyond me. Being a Celtic fan I have no objection to the likes of 'Simply the Best' being sung by the Bears and there should be similar feelings about 'The Fields of Athenry' from our tribe! Nothing to do with religion. Enjoy the music!!!!

This comes from the album "Seconds of Pleasure" from 1993.The band used to open their gigs with this song just after it was written. It has got fuck all to do with football..yes I know Sportscene started using it as their theme..and every song on the album was written by Jimme O'Neill. Buy the album and read the fuckin sleevenotes. Thanks for uploading maritarje.
