In this video, we’re going to look at some of the signs and causes of dementia and things you can do to combat dementia.
The first sign of dementia can occur as early as ten years before you have any cognitive changes. It takes many years for dementia to develop, and sensory changes that involve the loss of smell and vision often occur well before any other symptoms.
Here are 10 of the most common early signs of dementia:
1. Sensory problems (loss of smell)
2. Sensory problems (vision)
3. Sleeping problems
4. Agitation/Low tolerance to stress
5. Restlessness
6. Aggression
7. Memory issues
8. Emotional drop (depression, anxiety, lack of emotion)
9. Incontinence
10. Constipation
Memory issues can show up as an inability to recognize the time on a clock, mixing up words, lagging before answering questions, loss of spatial recognition, and lack of focus or concentration.
Chronic inflammation and insulin resistance are often seen in people who have dementia. Insulin resistance deprives the nerve cells of fuel, which is why Alzheimer's is commonly referred to as type 3 diabetes.
Chronic inflammation can be caused by poor diet and consuming refined sugars, refined starches, and refined oils. Head trauma, heavy metals, infection, and high blood pressure can also contribute to dementia.
So, what can you do? Here are 11 ways to effectively combat dementia:
1. Exercise
2. Have good sleep habits
3. Get on the Healthy Keto Diet
4. Do intermittent fasting and periodic prolonged fasting
5. Increase omega-3 fatty acids
6. Increase intake of B vitamins
7. Increase vitamin D
8. Try using a sauna
9. Take resveratrol and NAD
10. Consume probiotics
11. Try cold therapy

A couple of years ago I went through a very traumatic season. During that time, I noticed that my memory was really bad. I felt confused about simple every day stuff. That's what I had to do with my father and my mother who both suffered from two different types of dementia. I would tell them it was all right if they forgot things. That I still love them. And it didn't matter. I would just chatter until they were tired and they would fall asleep. Such a terrible disease. And I pray that I do not suffer from this, not because of myself but because of the burden it puts on others that I love.

I have most of the signs, but I've also been in deep grief after losing my mom a year ago and then my husband 10 months ago following a short but traumatic battle with leukemia. I feel certain that the sleeplessness, agitation, restlessness and emotional drop are due to grief. I was also diagnosed with borderline diabetes about 8 months ago. I've been hoping that the hyperglycemia and the memory loss are a result of the grief. So after watching this I realize that they are connected, because to be honest, I hit the sugary treats pretty hard for comfort. I have already been trying to clean up my diet, and exercise more, and am starting to feel better, but the memory problems are still there.

First, I’d like to send my condolences to you, along with love and healing. You’ve been through a lot in a short period of time. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. I’d like to mention to you that trauma affects different parts of the brain. Things like memory and retaining information can be seriously affected by trauma. Much of the time it works itself out. Sometimes it works itself out but you never quite get to the point that you were at before the trauma. This is not dementia, but it can mimic some signs of dementia.

@@340EMJM Thank you for your concern. It's been a tough year, but I am gradually doing better. I went from 2-3 hours of sleep at first, to 5-7 average now. I still miss my husband every day, but not every minute. I have some very supportive friends and family, so I'm not totally lonely, and I have my work that gets me out of the house and keeps me busy. I can find joy and purpose each day, especially with my pets and grandkids and my faith. So I guess I'm doing pretty well, really.

@@benny-S Large doses of vitamin D help with long covid symptoms. I'm not sure about it helping with smell but it helps with cough and fatigue. My mom had a cough for a long time and started looking very sick. She made plans to go to the ER. The night before, I gave her 20,000 units of vitamin D and 40mg of Zinc. She woke up and said she felt much better. Now, she takes it everyday (which is a big deal because she is stubborn and never took vitamins.)

I had no sense of smell most of my life. I started paying attention to my immune health in 2020 ( go figure). Very interesting observation. I've also noticed that hearing loss can mimic dementia as I've observed my own dad struggle. I finally realized that he wasn't forgetting, but simply never hearing or understanding what was told to or asked of him. I think those who are hard of hearing get tired of asking "what?" so they nod as if they heard, causing people to assume they understood.

Some of these are also among the multitude of symptoms of ME/CFS (Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). Cognitive Deficits (brain fog), memory issues, and many more. Brain lesions, I've been told, are 'common' for people with CFS. It was actually a relief to know that, and be told it's different from Dementia or Alzheimers. I choose diet, natural foods, natural supplements, positivity, and spirituality to accept and function as best I am able with the lifestyle changes that accompany ME/CFS. My mother has had many chronic health problems for 14 yrs. She is now disabled and in a wheelchair and needs someone to get her up and put her on a potty chair, bathe her etc. She has a nurse and physical therapist to come in a couple times of week and they walk her around the kitchen. That is it. My mother never walks or gets up to do anything any other time of the week. My mothers blood pressure was extremely low yesterday and the nurse just laughed and said eat some cheetos. It has a lot of salt in it and that will help raise your blood pressure. She was serious. They talked about all the snacks she could eat that has a lot of salt in it. I just turned around and walked away. And my whole family constantly criticize me for never going to the doctor. I just say I can give myself bad advice for free. I don't have to pay for it.

Would you please do a video on Polysorbate 80, and how it breaks down the protective barrier around the brain ? And also the products it’s found in like cottage cheese, green relish, ricotta cheese, cans of whipped cream , some mouthwashes , and in some cosmetics as well .

Most of the women on my mom's dad's side, developed dementia. Mom was so scared of it happening to her; but she instead died from cancer at 82 😢 no other issues ever. Dad on the other hand, is 93 this coming May; with no health issues. I seem to be closer to dad's side of the family in looks, shape, and even walk; hair, greying (hardly any at 65!), wrinkling (again, very little), so I have hope.

I had ocular migraines for about 4 years in my late teens/early 20's. Saw a bunch of specialists that put me on medications that had horrible side effects. It turns out the triggers for me were certain seed oils, deep fried foods, and bright lights. Simply wearing sunglasses outside and eliminating omega 6 solved 90% of my migraines. Taking caffeine in the morning fixed the rest and I'm 20 years migraine free.

Dr. Please Do a video on how to heal the brain after thc gummies misuse. My brain is not the same after ingesting that (200 mg thc) . It electrified my brain. I have brain fog and feel like swaying in my brain all the time, I have motor imbalance for more than 5 months now. Been to many specialists and done many tests, Mri’s etc. They find nothing thankfully. Though I haven’t improved much. Even supplements make my brain feel sore. I’m glad I’m still alive. It was the worst experience when I ingested that. Almond milk saved my life that night. Things could have been worse. That night I had to crawl to the kitchen to get milk because my head felt it was electrifying, my heart pulse went crazy and I couldn’t even stand up. Please do a video on something that helps the brain soothe and heal. Thank you 🙏🌺

I still had almost all of the signs and symptoms even on keto. Turns out, it was egg intolerance. And I was eating 10 a day… 😅 ever since I stopped the consumption of eggs, all of the symptoms are starting to disappear. It’s one of the most common allergens up there with gluten and casein after all. It’s scary to think that “brain food” that’s supposed to help the brain actually ends up hurting your brain if you have a sensitivity to it…

Dr. berg you have helped me and pointed me in the right direction so much more than any doctor has ever. My doctor was assigned to be a floater and they gave me a doctor I had to wait 2 months to make an appointment with. I had my doubts about him but when I went to my appointment to give him a chance I was right. One of the worst or worst doctors I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t take metformin because of all the stuff written about it and wanted to try a natural, nutritious way of eating. He wouldn’t talk to me only if I took that but he did put in my chart I had lipedema and how he would know that cuz he never looked at me I was all covered up, long pants and sleeves. I was assigned a counselor who helped me and gave me tips and when I got my next blood A1C it went from 16.2 to 8.2 and BS 350 to 140. I’m still and always will be working on it. That doc said it doesn’t work. hah.

I can taste it's kind of old oil then, the frying process has gone wrong, so the food appears to be less safe. Next time I'll check better😌. Or should the authorities be doing that? Perhaps things of this topic are different in the US, as for health / food regulations are for sure different over here in Europa, in general that is.

So. 53. Roughly 6 concussions in my life. Hypothyroid. Trouble sleeping through night more than 3-5 hours straight for past 13 years. Traumatic childhood traumatic marriage of 30 years. Finally (stupid me) put up uncompromising boundaries. I'm now faced with some scarry issues. Had an episode last summer visiting a family member I hadn't seen in a long time. Our families spent the day at the beach. Kids played we talked. At some point there was a lull in the conversation and I looked up to see a strange woman standing at the edge of our blanket, brushing the sand off it. She was really close. I just stared at her for about a minute. All of a sudden I realized it was my sister. ??? Similar, less dramatic episodes since. Is that dementia or something else?
