Blackstar "Response" knob is a tube emulator. Its a brilliant feature and never seems to be discussed in reviews. Each tube setting is like a custom overdrive pedal! Each tube has a distinct character, such as saturation (or lack off), and they have their own tonal EQ curve etc. EL84's have a chimy clean and super saturation, EL34's light on bass focused mids and crunchy saturation. The 6V6 have that Fender Deluxe Reverb tonal sound and a lighter breakup (bluesy type), 6L6 are super clean and have lots of low end, used for that Fender clean sound or with high gain settings for New Metal styles of music. Kt88 have a thick full midrange and low mids and are great for Strats with single coils. So change tubes to get different overdrive break up and tonal EQ curve. Knowing about tubes helps. Throw a tube screamer or other drive pedal on the front to boost the amp (Katana has built on overdrive pedals for added boost). Also the amp responds well to pick attack, play light and it cleans up, pick hard and it breaks up more (very tube like).

Great video and great playing ❤️👍🏻 You made a little mistake by saying that there is no mid control ( as there is one which is accessed by holding one of the buttons in for a few seconds). These are outstanding digital amps and make the Fenders and Katanas sound like a box of frogs in a side by side test in a store ( I’ve done it on a number of occasions).👍🏻 Much more dynamics, string separation, warmth and punch in the Blackstar’s, a better “tube amp” sound. Those other amps are cheaper however, but like everything in life “you get what you pay for”. 😊

Hi Jonathan! Great review, and playing. How would you compare Blackstar Silver with HX Stomp with a FRFR cab for small gigs? Any thoughts? Best, Hans

@billhillard3 жыл бұрын
@@JonIsJustTooLoud I often am guilty of not reading the descriptions, sorry. But if anyone does read this it DOES in fact have a mid control in the software. So you can adjust the mids on top of all of the other features AND by holding the tap button down you can adjust the resonance and presence right on the amp without using the software. Thanks Mr. Koh, I bought this amp after your review and I have to say that I am very happy AND VERY SHOCKED at how good this amp is in both cleans and high gain! I have been playing tube amps for thirty-years and I have owned some modeling amps, mostly to put in the living room and bedroom. And they have started to sound decent, but not professional sounding by any means, even though some are advertised as being for intermediate to professional range. So thanks, dude. It is even better than advertised. I have it in my bedroom, but I will definitely use this for recording and performing as well. And I was a dedicated Engl user for decades. This tiny and inexpensive amp give a comparable sound to my boutique Engl. And it is from Engl's prime. It is so old that it is made in West Germany. And yes, it is serviced and I change the tubes on a regular basis...just the Blackstar sounds THAT good. The Silverline is as good as my Blackstar Club 40 Mk. II. Better than my Marshall 800, way better than the Engl Gigmaster that I bought and quickly resold (it suuuuucked) and way better than a Vox Cambridge that I bought last year to play with in the living room. And I thought that the Cambridge sounding pretty convincing (when loaded with a TC Electronics Tube Pilot -- actual tube in it adds genuine tone sound to the Cambridge and is not needed on the Silverline). I also bought a Mini head Blackstar Club Mk II and it was awful. And I bought an Orange Mini Dark Terror tube amp and I hated that too. I know that a LOT of people like those, but I hated it. So again, thanks dude! I finally bought something after seeing it on KZbin and for once the product did not actually suck when I got it home. Anyone reading this...it is that good. OD1 kind of stinks to me, but everything and OD 2 just rules. I am still going to buy a Victory Super Kraken though. :o) Thanks Mr. Koh have a good one.
