@@tricct5890 Agreed. 7.5 tons was strict enough. In my family we have a Mercedes Unimog for the farm and we have to watch out which attachments we put on it, so it does not exceed the weight limit. For the younger drivers it's 3.5t. And for all who got their drivers licence before 1971, it's 7.5 tons. Which is obviously insane. Germany really did not let that 70's crisis go to waste and imposed a lot of laws restricting personal freedoms severely. E.g.: In 73, they also imposed a ban on driving a car on sundays, which fortunately was lifted shortly after. Unfortunately all other restricting laws of that time are still in place and were not lifted. No matter who was in power.

I just want to point out that you need a C-class Driving Licence for vehicles with Gross vehicle weight rating of over 3,5 t. GVWR is the maximum acceptable weight of fully loaded vehicle. Here just the vehicle alone weights 4,1 t, so GVWR is probably way over 6 tonnes! You needed C-class Licence even for Hummer H1, which weighted about 3,3 tonnes.
@Ocato92
@Ocato92 Жыл бұрын
@@tricct5890 Actually, you don't need a full C-Class. For vehicles with GVWR between 3,5, and 7,5 tonnes C1 is enough but it's very rare for someone to get this one. Usually you already go with a full C-class.

Funny thing is a lot of American roads aren’t designed for really big vehicles so to speak. In my town our downtown area has massive roads around the courthouse. This is because back in the 1800’s when it came together they wanted to be able to turn around a horse and carriage on the square’s roads. They just kept it when it was paved.

And would pay bigger taxes on everything, pay more expensive tolls on highways and parking lots because it would literally be considered a small semi truck, not a "car" anymore. Not to mention this hummer would be banned from driving on some roads and bridges. 4 tons is A LOT, and many smaller roads and bridges cannot take that weight, at least not safely. At this point, being electric, I'm asking myself how much of that 200kWh battery is being used/wasted just to "carry itself" around. At which point it stops being worth it to add more battery? Im sure this truck with 50kWh less battery would barely lose that much range because it would be carrying A LOT less weight anyway

@@iMeatbag in a compact or economy car weighing in the sub 3000lbs range sure but for your average person I’d argue the benefits of having a physical switch you can feel and hit without looking is more beneficial. Especially given the fact with modern techniques and technology you don’t even need that much cabling. You can literally have all the buttons on a single pcb with just one wire thinner than a phone charging cable plugging directly into the massive touchscreen or down to the car’s brain. Modern physical switches aren’t like old fashioned controls that link directly to the unit they’re controlling but more like mechanical keyboards with a fancy exterior which can easily be made to last an extremely long time and a ridiculously long time if you use Hall effect switches which basically use electromagnets instead of physical contact. On another note I especially love the button for dynamically controlling regenerative braking and hope it becomes a standard trend.

Crab walk is useful when you car falls (or is starting to fall) into a ditch or something. Because it is taking the entire car, sideways, out of it, rather than pushing the front and letting the rear slide. Gives you more control. My Hummer now has 16,806 miles on it. We put 9k miles on it in the first 30 days traveling across the country. I've also got a friend with a Rivian, he found out the hard way how insanely costly it is to repair them compared to GM and Ford's offerings. I'm still waiting on my Lightning Platinum too. Though I think by the time we actually get it it will just be going for sale. I've never driven anything in the truck market that feels like this Hummer. It is more responsive than our Raptor, and far more capable off road in situations that would matter. My center console toggles are used for fun stuff, like R2D2 "horns" and a siren for WTF mode on private roads where it's legal. I'm only 5'7", so I don't have any clearance issues while inside the truck. Honestly, the best part about my Hummer to me, is the fact that even in -30F temperatures, the battery compartment and it's temperature controlled environment is keeping me above 300 mile ranges. We learned from experience that at -30F, the Rivian (with heat) drops to about 190 miles.

Interesting. A standard US drivers license allows you to drive any vehicle up to 26,000 lbs (11,793 kg) gross weight and/or tow a trailer up to 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg), as long as you are transporting no more than 15 passengers.

@@stephenj4937 I assume this is standardised across the entire EU, but in the Czech Republic, it is as follows: standard license is class B: Vehicle under 3500 kg (7716 lbs) and no more than 9 occupants class C1: vehicle under 7500 kg (16534 lbs) and no more than 9 occupants Class C: vehicle not limited by weight and no more than 9 occupants class D1: vehicle under 8 meters (27 feet) and no more than 17 occupants Class D: vehicle "designed for transporting people" All classes above allow towing up to 750 kg (1653 lbs) trailer, but only if the total weight of the rig fits into weight limit, so for the typical B class if you have a 750 kg trailer your vehicle must fit under 2750kg. To tow more you must get appropriate + E license, e.g. B+E or D1+E. Some of the features are something every single other (electric) car should have aswell, especially the dash with PHYSICAL buttons/switches! Thats seriously such a smart way of solving a big part of menu navigation and searching for the right settings, which other EVs suffer from. EDIT: I dont like big cars, I rather hate them. What the Hummer does well however is the *details*, like the mentioned dashboard or storage behind the back seats. Those are all things that id like to see on small EVs aswell.

@@niceguyrides It's just like any Super Duty truck or the Hummer series before it. It's not really meant to be practical, it's more of a specific use case car. I like the new format, I like what you're doing, and will continue to watch your videos. You provide a nice review of the vehicles. On this vehicle, the UI you are impressed with has a utilitarian design. Lots of folks with trucks, also keep gloves in the truck. Having the large buttons makes it easy to work with while wearing gloves. Also, I believe the reason the seat vibrates instead of the steering wheel is an improved safety feature. As an example, if a driver were falling asleep at the wheel, on a long trip, and his/her hand falls free of the steering wheel, vibrating the wheel provides no functionality. The seat, however may actually get their attention. I would also say that if bad drivers are drifting lanes, its likely because they are not holding the wheel at all. I like the seat vibrating, it makes more sense.

In the UK you need a special drivers licence to drive vehicles over 7750 LB's, so most people here wouldn't even legally be able to drive it. Add to that the fact that its too heavy for any light bridge anywhere - It's an impressive bit of engineering but honestly I don't think a soccer mom should be able to drive something this heavy and quick without having specialist training, its fatalities waiting to happen.

As someone who drives a truck for a living I can tell you that a truck has the same kind of "extra" brake thing, so for a trucker that is an amazing feature. Saves a lot on brake pads, especially when hauling something heavy down a steep and long hill. As for the crap steering, that would be amazing when having to maneuver in tight spaces. You don't see the "need" for it because you don't have experience with driving huge trucks.

Fun fact, in the UK unless you got your license before 1997, you would have to get a HGV license to drive this because it weighs over 3500kg

I'm in love with this truck. And, fun fact, the animations were actually designed with Unreal Engine, just like Fortnite and other games. So hell yeah, I'm buying one.

The F150 lightning isn’t a great option if you actually need a truck for truck tasks, but it definitely looks practical by comparison to this thing.
