Simon Phillips kindly agreed to play and track an amazing solo at Phantom Recording exclusively for us - we feel very honored. But it even got better: Right after recording, Simon mixed the track, exclusively using analog outboard equipment by elysia. Check this out - Simon rules!

I first saw Simon in concert in 1977 playing with the late great Jack Bruce, since then i've seen him with Jeff Beck, Toyah, Mike Oldfield, The Who and many times with Toto + solo quite a few times, he's been my favourite player for about 40 years, words can't explain how big a Drum idol he is in my Book

Jacob Johansson do you really think you can pick out drum manufacturers just by the sound? I sure couldn't. Tama pearl dw sonor etc....all sound pretty damn close. It's all in the tuning, wood choice, head choice etc. Brand snobbery is just that.

Apart from having awesome chops and such a musical mind, I love his drum sound! So many drummers have such an artificial sound, his kit sounds like a drum kit! An open, singing, beautiful kit, that perfectly compliments his melodic, skilful and diverse playing.

I don't like that paint can inside Simon's kick drums. Its taken the 'Simon tone' out of his kicks. PLus that ring/boom he had with his kicks spilled onto his toms. I loved Simon's kick tone. His inventive rolled towel dampening is classic Phillips!!! If your listening Simon please go back to your classic Phillips kick sound :)

Great melodic toms I love the tonality etc.. I also love the timing on the double bass stuff where he comes it to define various sections. I've always thought Simon was a great drummer especially jazzy stuff. I also like Steve Gadd, and Jeff Porcaro, Bonham was great and there are too many others to list. I also love the single sticking with double bass stuff it's awesome.
