That's just how companies are with bootlegs, like Nintendo for example. The reason why they don't bother taking down bootlegs is because it's a lost cause. Bootlegs are typically hard to legally track down because their makers typically have low, obscure profiles on purpose. Bootlegs also tend to target not only people who mistake it for the real thing, but a lot of their appeal comes from people who know they're counterfeit, yet buy them anyway because they couldn't afford the real product anyway, while potential customers are more likely to purchase the real thing if they have enough interest in it to know what is official for it or not. Things like fan games are made by people who put themselves out there to make them, so unfortunately they tend to get taken down first. Even super protective megacorps like Nintendo don't try to eliminate bootlegs because as soon as you try to, more will take their place, and are usually so obscure that they're not considered a threat, in the small chance they're even aware of their existence in the first place. AI Minecraft is much bigger than a bootleg on the notoriously approval-lenient Play Store. It's big enough to gain the attention of Microsoft, just like the video said. I hope that makes sense. You do have some point, but I thought I should mention as someone who has had interest in researching and discussing bootlegs of media.
@sodapone20 күн бұрын
Even if you actually try to take bootlegs to court, it can be hard to argue that you own a copyright and/or trademark on basic game mechanics, which oftentimes is all these bootlegs are really copying-this is why mechanics get patented instead, and even then patent lawsuits from major corporations are rare because they are slow, expensive, and you can lose them if you're not careful. Years ago PUBG tried to take bootlegs to court, but because they didn't actually have any legal ownership over the mere concept of a battle royale, they had to make insane legal arguments like "previous shooter games did not make use of a frying pan" which is patently untrue if you take even a passing glance at L4D or TF2. This would be a rather unusual case to take to court-no code or assets were stolen directly, but they are using the Minecraft trademark and their product clearly bears a very close resemblance to the real Minecraft. Microsoft might be able to take it on trademark grounds, as trademarks are intended to prevent confusion among consumers about whose product is whose.

As someone who trained decades to finally make some money with art, i am devided in what i think. Do i see my art in danger? Not at all, i can make art as much as i like, no matter if there is AI that can do it better or not. Most artist fear the loss of income, that may be true but it is also a fear almost everyone with a job has. But i am also not okay with the way AI is trained and used, you see the greed behind it and that also means we know how it will end. Systems based on greed will collapse sooner or later because they do not sustain themself, they just drain everything as fast as possible. Maybe fast in this case means 10 or 100 years but at some point the AI will run out of real art to copy from to create something of value. We can alrdy see that now. So maybe i just sit back, relax, draw more pictures with physical media instead on a Drawpad and my grandchildren get rich from selling real art in a world that has lost all artists :P

If we're talking about GenAI taking over entire markets, it's thankfully kind of limited by the looming energy crisis its models are facing. Further iterations of GenAI models have to use up more and more excessive amounts of energy, to the point where, reportedly, ChatGPT currently uses up the equivalent energy of 33,000 average US houses. And the higher ups in charge aren't really bothering to focus R&D on make more efficient models. So GenAI seems to be on a destined path to wiping out all of its energy supply and peetering out very soon. The money being put into it can only pay off so much, and once it slams into a wall we can only guess at what will become of it. It's just a shame that who knows how many impoverished communities have to suffer that could have otherwise used the electricity and water the GenAI bubble is, and will be, soaking up before it pops.

I came here trying to learn what's happening code-side but while that's not what I got much of here I do really appreciate the sentiment of this video. AI is good for research and in matters where the people using the AI actually _understand_ what the AI is doing and is using it to find patterns quickly or perform linear work with set rules. I am worried, not only for people losing their jobs (and for models that barely work) but that companies will use it in place of doing actual research and creating their product with a human eye and actually understanding what it is they are doing. If AI does it all, who will be the expert in the topic? No-one, to make changes, they'll have to get AI to do it again. By then, the company could basically be replaced entirely with automation...

1. They were not the first. That goes to Google with its GameNGen that "Played" doom. But I guess they can claim they where the first because doom isn't open world. 2. "World model" is basically an AI standard at least the modern ones implement some sort of memory cache into then next prompt. Oasis forgets as frequently as ChatGPT if not more. 3. It's not really real time, it's generating images at the same speed as other models, but uses visual tricks like smearing to make it look real time. 4. It's still under the hood doing the same exact thing as other ai image generators just the prompt changes when ever you press a key vs manually typing it out. 5. No "putting it in the oven" it can't get dramatically better then this. The reason why the UI looks so off its because each image it stole from had a different ui. So it can never consistently pick one. AI has a massive bottleneck in quality but cus of ai hype/capitalism it's rarely talked about. 6. Ultimatly this whole thing was marketing trick to advertise the company and the hardware it uses(even if it's not any different the competition). eh. AI is awkwardly used nowadays. Generative AI for arts purposes is ass, and it's clear that those who first came up with it were salivating too much at the possibilities to clear it with a functional ethics board. AI does have some good parts though, and those do not get mentioned. Most upscaling tools that upscale for cheap performance costs used the foundations of what grew into Gen AI to achieve that. Nvidia basically leaned into AI years before it went big, and it's been a fairly big component in making their raytracing so efficient. Raytracing is very expensive, and AI can take an input that calculates fewer points and with make a decent approximation of the final result. Let alone what's happening in specific research fields. but yeah, the public-facing front has been abysmal, and the results and the motives that drive them have been generally unimpressive.
