My dogs refuse to eat without eachother and they normally switch bowls I don’t know how to make sure they are getting sufficient calories but they are definitely overweight what should I do

Our dog is on medication for epilepsy since October and his hunger levels have gone through the roof. He pesters for food and its hard to keep him satiated without adding extra calories. We add veggies to his meals (most of which he picks out and leaves) are walking him and playing games more (fetch is his favourite) but he needs to lose 3 - 5kgs ideally. How do you keep them from over eqting under those circumstances? I hate the thought that he feels constantly Hungry. Before the medication he wouldn't ever fuss me for his meals and more.

I would talk to your vet about food options as we want to be trying to make your dog feel fuller for less calories. Another thing would be to talk about the medication in terms of dose and alternatives based on their seizure control and blood testing. Good luck!

Hello buddy 👋 good to see you again my friend. Well my vet has got arnold a appointment for the Dr Putnam the twenty fourth of this month she said yesterday she called him and told him that if he had a cancellation to call her so we can bring him right on down I'm literally freaking out waiting for the appointment because he isn't feeling well she has him on two gabapentin a day now and up to four tramadol a day now it's just like reliving the days when bigfoot first started getting sicker but he was on at the end of his life six to eight gabapentin a day and twelve to sixteen tramadol a day although I usually gave him twelve a day but anyway it's nerve racking and I'm just about had my breaking point with all of the bad luck I'm having.. little Arnold spends his days in my bedroom under my bed he just comes out when he wants to eat and drink and go potty but any other time he would be in the living room watching TV because that's his thing to do. I don't know what to do Dr Alex I'm a literally a bundle of nerves right now because deep down being a dog daddy I know something is wrong with arnold I have known for a long time and she said just because he is severely overweight is why he breathing fast but I always knew something else was bothering him I'm a doggie daddy I don't have any kids but I bet with you being a parent and having kids I bet you would know exactly if something was wrong with your kids it's a instinct I guess... well I hope you have a wonderful blessed day my friend 🙏 god bless you and your family 🙏 Dr Alex you have really been a true friend and blessing to me I know if Arnold can talk he would tell you the same thing.. take care of yourself buddy 👍 I'm going to try to hang in here it's a long rocky road

Unrelated but I’m not sure if I should get my dog spayed, she’s 6 years old Pitbull. Our vet said she’s healthy but she was lactating and that is imbalanced hormones, she recommend us getting her spayed but I’m really nervous and scared. Get rid of the kibble and feed a balanced pre made raw, or look into doing DIY. It cuts out all carbs and your dog will lose weight quickly. All of mine lost weight within 1-2 months and are healthier.

I am a horrible weight 140kg male.. and you can easily feel the bones on your hand, I imagine your hands would have to be severley swolen for that to be the case otherwise. Your bones arent any harder to feel being heavier. Fat is unlikely to distribute their.
