Don't diss the 2.7 diesel. I have the X358 facelift with that engine, remapped it produces 258bhp, a monstrous 400lb ft torque, and averages 35mpg in mixed driving. Whisper quiet, and doesn't even sound like a diesel. Plenty of these about with 200K mileages and still going strong.

It's a continuously problematic engine though. Not like a Jaguar XJ needs more weak point that require above average maintainance.

Bought one nearly knew in 2006, a v8 3.5. Sold it in 2015 and bought an S500 from 2007, then a c6 from 2010, then a Phaeton from 2007, then an A8 from 2005, test drove a 750i in 2021 and hated it...realised the error of my ways and bought a couple of x350s both v6 petrols in summer 2021. Hind sight is a great thing...should have stayed with the XJ. Had XJ's since the mid 1980s theres nothing like them. Good video.

Why the V6 M8? not the V8? just wondering as used to have the V8 and always thought why the V6? Was it price or fuel consumption or reliability?

Happy New Year. Great to see you back! I'm a bit biased, as the owner of a 2007 Jaguar XK 4.2, but I really think that if you find a good one, an old Jaguar is fantastic. They offer so much class, luxury and great handling for very little money. I've found reliability to be much better than many people believe, too.

I've had Series III XJs, an X300 and I'm now on my second X350. The X300 is a great car and a huge step forward from the preceding models, but I'd say the X350 is in another league. I just wish they'd fix the saggy headlining thing - or is it now a 'tradition'? ;-)

I have a diesel one and it's brilliant. I have driven it to Spain and back a few times and getting over 40mpg driving hard, and getting 600 miles on a tank is brilliant. If I take it easy on a motorway I can get over 50mpg. Mine has done 180,000 and it drives like new. And it's fast.

Definately not, for what it is, not a bad combination. Drives like a v6 Mondeo but with a more comfortable interior. It has the same navigation system as an XJ from the time. A good one goes for 2.5-4k euro so not a bad proposition. An S type would be just as much though and more of a real Jag, so I would probably go for that one in that budget.

The 'Jaaaaaags' of the new Millennia (excluding the X-Type) were way better. Ford added build quality, extra power and must important of ALL - CASH FOR PROPER ENGINE DEVELOPEMENT, so that the Jaguar engineers had an even playing field. NB - The board of, Jaguar had the chance to turn the V6 Lincoln Town Car engine from a single cam per bank to a twin cam per bank engine and REALLY go to town on it and hone it for the European Market with other mods. Ford promised them £250m just for engine development (obviously Ford would also benefit from this engine development for their American Market) but ALAS, the board in Britain lossed their bottle at the last minute and let the Jaguar engineers down. Can you imagine the kind of of power and torque the 3.0/4.0/5.0 litre V6/V8 engines would have turned out in just naturally aspirated form let alone with Turbo/Superchargers with the kind of knowledge that European engineers have of extracting power from medium/large engines?. The Germans would have been quaking in their boots. PS - I have a 3 litre XF petrol and it's a beautiful car from ANY angle and always gets admiring looks. I also have a 1975 4.2C (between the E-Type and XJS) and that is a fantastic car - NOW THAT REALLY GETS ADMIRING GLANCES WHEN I DRIVE IT IN THE SUMMER. The new millennia XJ/XF/XK/F-Type will ALL go down as 'Automotice Art' in the years to come. People will utter the phrase - 'Jaaaaaaaaaaag' when they see them in the museums and automotive collections - AND RIGHTLY SO!!.

Pleased you're back! I had an XJ briefly... AFZ 1659 - now thankfully scrapped I think! More leaks than a sieve and the air suspension collapsed on the day of purchase, going in to limp mode - though it was £1,400...

@@lmc_drives6308 This was a "Radiance" over "Warm Charcoal" 3.0 V6 SE (small wheels)... listed with a few issues, but nothing serious - advert found from a year prior backed this up. What a SHED! Sold through Copart for £500 😂. My first foray into Lexus ownership went just as badly (last MK1 RX300 on a 52 plate). Broke even on that almost!

Interestingly the X Type here in the states seems to do rather well in terms of reliability and on the rare occasion you can find a manual with the 3.0 Ford engine which (didn't think I'd ever say this) is a sporty drive😜

Always loved those. Drove a Daimler Sovereign with similar mileage and was similarly impressed. Did notice though that in almost every listing I see for these, as well as this car, the headliner seems to have issues in the rear. Is that a thing? 🤷♂️
@peterrenn6341 Жыл бұрын
Certainly is. They all seem to suffer from it, right back to the 1980s Series cars. The bad news is that the only way to get the headliner assembly (known as the "biscuit") out is to remove the rear screen. Thankfully on the X350s there are enough other fittings in there that hold it up. - on the earlier cars it would come down like a collapsed tent and touch your head!

Nice, used to have the 3.6 v8, loved it, why did you switch from the V8 to the V6?
@HJ-vs7lf5 ай бұрын
I love that you still gor a Jag after the S type experience. My X350 needs rear suspension and subrame rubbers, a front damper, air suspension compressor and an airconditioning compressor. So it was definately a bad purchase, I'm over 8k euro into it but still barely driveable. In a way I still do not regret it, despite it financially raping me.

The X350 XJ6 is a very good car. I own a 3.0 sport, built in 2003. Pacific blue. These are excellent second \ weekend cars. They still turn heads, and are a pleasure to drive. They are very comfortable, and are not as unreliable or costly as people think. They are cheap to insure, since they are an older car. Drive one if you get the chance. You might be surprised..

I agree with everything you say. I was shocked by the proportions when it came out but they just got better looking year upon year as other cars got uglier and uglier. I now have an 07 XJR for weekends and rather fancy a 3 litre for daily commuting. I could never understand why John Prescott was slagged off for hving 2 Jags, seems perfectly sensible to me.

Compare a great condition X350 to anything more modern and this is just a brilliant choice. I have an XJR 4.2 Supercharged and it does 25-30 mpg on a run and the purr of the supercharger is always exciting. 0-60 in 5.2 secs about and its well built and if looked after not much goes wrong. A very low mileage XJR is £12-18k and rising slightly and that whole car is less than the first years depreciation on a small new EV.

I used to have a V6 350. Underpowered in my opinion. You have to rev it, torque numbers are obviously not good enough. On the highway, it would almost always shift two speeds down to accelerate well. While the V8 did not. But now I have a Super V8 (XJR), by far the best choice, I should've went with it from the start, without persuading myself the V6 "is powerful enough".
