Funniest line I’d heard from Homer was after he and Marge had a party at their house, Homer got drunk and embarrassed Marge. Next day Marge finds Homer passed out behind the couch, wakes him and says, “Homer, I’m so embarrassed!” He sits up and says, “Why, what’d you do?”

The Simpsons started as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987. People loved it and the first full episode was 1989

Simpsons started on Tracy Ullman in the mid 80's as shorts. They became a sitcom in 1989. Beavis and Butthead came on MTV in the early 90's after being in an animation festival where they played frog baseball. Both were preceded by the Flintstones and the Jetsons in the 60's and 70's.

Whether or not you consider it an "adult" cartoon, The Flintstones was the first animated series airing in prime time, starting in 1960. It was inspired by an adult sitcom, the Honeymooners.

The Flintstones was totally an adult cartoon from the late 60's. The Simpsons started on The Tracy Ullman show. In 1989, 1 month after I turned 18, The Simpsons started their series. Married With Children had already been on a few years. Everything was reacting to The Cosby Show and Full House. Married and Simpsons were the 1st serious shows made for GenX. Beavis and Butthead came out in the early 90's as MTV's strike for GenX.

The Flintstones came out probably 28 years before The Simpsons And both were meant to be a children's or family cartoon The Simpsons started on the Tracy Ullman show in the late '80s, Beavis and Butthead didn't start until the early '90s like a four or five year Gap

From Wikipedia : Wait Till Your Father Gets Home is an American animated sitcom produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions that aired in first-run syndication in the United States from 1972 to 1974. The show originated as a one-time segment on Love, American Style called "Love and the Old-Fashioned Father". The same pilot was later produced with a live cast (starring Van Johnson), but with no success. The show was the first primetime animated sitcom to run for more than a single season since fellow Hanna-Barbera show The Flintstones more than ten years earlier, and would be the only one until The Simpsons seventeen years later. The show was inspired by All in the Family. Since being one of the first primetime animated sitcoms, it was referred as the "great-grandfather of adult animated sitcoms".

Simpsons preceded everyone I'm pretty sure, unless you are going to count The Flintstones. I'd guess it was out at least 10 years before King of the Hill.
