To be honest, the show was SO BAD by the time the movie came out that the movie felt like a huge breath of fresh air. I really enjoyed it. I think that's at least part of the reason why it did as well as it did. I was 25 when the movie came out, so no nostalgia factor for me.
@adamgriffith-smith91064 жыл бұрын
Unpopular opinion here but the show was still somewhat watchable around that time (I think they were on season 18-19). While it wasn’t near it’s quality of the 90s, I don’t think seasons 10-20 are as bad as people make them out to be. Even seasons 21-23 were alright, it only became very bad around season 24.
@rars0n4 жыл бұрын
@@adamgriffith-smith9106 While I respect your opinion, I have to disagree. Having grown up with the show since the first season, by season 9 the cracks were already starting to show (the most infamous example being The Principal and the Pauper). At that point, the bad episodes were still the exception, but that quickly changed with seasons 10-12 which got progressively worse. It's not just that these were bad episodes, but they started changing the characters and taking the show into a different direction. I think a lot of the later seasons, 20+ or whatever, are especially egregious due to the fact that they just flat-out make it obvious the writers have run out of story lines and have no problem rehashing episodes that have already been done but with completely different stories (and they whore out guest appearances as if they're a reason to watch the show), as if the old episodes didn't happen. But personally the show became unwatchable once episodes like "New Kids on the Blech" (which was season 12) were the norm. Jerkass Homer was also a huge detractor for me. I don't enjoy sitting through any episode after season 12. It's a completely different show. I can understand why people younger than me who might have grown up with them a little later might still enjoy later seasons, but I'm just really attached to seasons 3 through 7-ish Simpsons, when the show was at its absolute funniest. The jokes were so well written and none of the later seasons even attempt that kind of humor.

The movie should have been the Holidays of Future Passed episode, and it should have ended the series. The biggest mistake they made for the health of the show imo was never having time really pass. If at some point the kids actually started to grow up throughout the show, then they would have had a lot more possibilities for episodes instead of just giving Homer yet another job. Then once Lisa graduates high school, finish off with the flash-forward holiday special and/or movie that gives a definitive end to the series. Cause at this point I'm fairly certain that the show isn't actually going to end until Dan Castellanetta dies and we'll never get an actual conclusion. Somewhere around season 10 would have been the best time to end the show and keep it's legacy intact instead of hobbling along as the mangled zombie corpse that it's been for the past 20 years.

To simplify - in Portuguese that word means the colour, and was used by the English as a racial slur. Imagine if the French "Noire" had been taken and used the same way. This happens quite a lot by coincidence as well. BTS' record label send edited versions of songs to English radio as the Korean for "You" and "I" is pronounced "Niga" and "Naega." Watch any international esport and you'll see Brazilian fans typing "kkk" in the chat - it means roughly equivalent to "good game" or "well played" as I understand it.

7:25 tbh I think the SpongeBob movie still looks great to this day and visually still looks more polished than the show nowadays. There's shadows to everything, sunrays, et cetera. They definitely made the movie look pretty. Also, I think that in terms of visuals, modern Simps does look about as nice as the movie, but in terms of animation it's really stilted and choppy.

I completely understand the whole "liking something as a kid but seeing The flaws in it as you get older" thing. I loved the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie as a toddler, but once I Grew Older I saw the flaws it had, but I still love it.

For what it's worth, I thought the Simpson's movie was fantastic. It was written by a lot of the golden age writers (including the inimitable John Swartzwelder) and it shows. If the show was as good as the movie I'd still be watching it.

If there is ever a simpsons movie sequel, I feel like it should focus more on bart and have the villain be sideshow bob. They already had that whole thing set up and just introduced this random threat of EPA rather then maybe something using the preexisting criminal characters led by sideshow bob. I feel like bart is much better to work with especially with sideshow bob as the villain. I also feel like we need more of an appearance from moe and mr burns for SURE. Maybe moe was rounded up as one of the criminals but in the end ends up on the side of the simpsons, while mr burns ends up as a sort of supporting character for sideshow bob in some way
