I'm explaining the entire genetics system of The Sims 2. It's different from later games in many aspects, so I also mention TS3 and TS4 at times.
Most of the footage comes from this video of mine:

I play all Sims games (on PC). Although Sims 4 I can't play in English due to language restrictions.

I do this too, but I create every sim as a randomized sim of the opposite gender then switch them. I find that the randomized faces aren’t truly random, just mixes of preset features, and they use different mixes for men and women. But swapping them once they’re already generated makes them look way less generic and way more interesting.

Sometime ago I had Nina having twins, one alien and one human, with Don. I was so lost on how she had a alien baby until I remembered she has a alien grandparent. I'm a biology student and I love TS2 for the realistic system of the dominant and recesive genes, it's very realistic, but when I play longer in one hood, then I have to use the mod for the equal genetics because in like third generation almost everyone in the hood has brown or black hair and brown eyes and it's not very realistic. Also, I'm not really a hard player of TS3, but there happen to be this 10% chance of mutation what is also cool :D
@Marticore
@Marticore 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I use the equal genetics mod too! I like to choose the Sim's genetics and that gives me more options. Ugh, I actually hate the mutation in TS3! XD
@teinewitch
@teinewitch 4 жыл бұрын
I also love TS2 genetics but to let the hood be more different with colours of hair and eyes, I sometimes add some recessive genes in SimPE to pre-made Sims. For example take Alexander Goth. I like to change his recessive from brown eyes colour to blue ones - it seems legit for me 'cause Jocasta (Bella's mother) has got these as well as Michael Bachelor. I know it can sound like cheating but it makes the hood better in my opinion :)

It always bothered me how Daniel Pleasant and Mary-Sue Pleasant (who was adopted and looks east asian) had red hair green eyed twins lol. Angela & Lilith were definitely created in CAS and do not look half asian one bit. If you make Daniel & Mary Sue have a child now, it will always be black hair brown eyes.

My Simself and his Girlfriend Liliana had children and they all look like him. The twins only inherited her Pointed Ears, and the youngest looks exactly like me just with brown hair. None of them have her dark skin. The eyes are irrelevant as both of them have the Eye Color.

@@fenrisvermundr2516 Sometimes one set of genes does seem to dominate no matter what. I had a couple, wife was tan skintone, blue eyes, blonde hair. Husband was dark skintone, green eyes, red hair. They both wanted to marry off 6 kids so they had babies. Every one of them except for the twins had husbands skin and hair color. Eye color changed. The twins were they only ones that mixed it up some. One was dark skintone with blonde hair, the other was tan skintone with red hair. So George did his part to make sure I had plenty of dark skinned/redheads to populate my neighborhood with!

Most of the children from the premade neighborhoods in TS2 were in fact created in CAS and therefore don't really look like their parents. This is also the case of Cassandra and Alexander Goth who don't look one bit like Bella and/or Mortimer. There's genetically correct versions of them (and also Angela and Lilith who therefore have black hair) that people from the community created, I always replace their faces with SimPE whenever I reset Pleasantview. :)

I liked the fact that in this part of plastic, unlike 4, it did not change genetics, as in real life. In 4 parts, in this regard, a typical family of cartoons, when children are clones of parents with even a changed face. Plus, in the second, genes from grandparents sometimes slip through, which is very realistic. I know a bunch of red hair people whose parents are not even close red hair.

Strangetown has the best facial genetics and I've gotten some beautifully unique looking sims once I figured out how it works. I really liked the recessive/dominant genes in Sims 2. Wish the later games had it. Same with sims dying their hair. Never liked that my sims kids could inherit their green highlights in sims 3.

I am quite sure about the genetics factor in personality because i once made a couple with the exact same personality in CAS and the kid they had in game had also the exact same personality Thank you for this very informative Video again!!!

It's quite interesting how much of personality is randomized and how much is inherited... I also have a child that differs from her dad only by about 3 points. They're both insanely grouchy, I love that 🤣

I would love a video on adoption and I'm looking forward to it. Funny how The Sims 2 was much more realistic in some aspects and they still can't think of a better way to do it. Thank you for your effort!

I have an idea: a challenge to "breed out" Malcolm Landgraab genes, something like you did with pudding sim on your polish channel, it could be fun to watch 😄😄

Can you explain sims 3 genetics as well? This video was so interesting 😂 i want more about genetics
@IsomerMashups

I can explain it: everything is equal. You have a 50/50 chance of getting any feature from either parent (but you can also get features from grandparents or mutations, which are just a set of premade features). Your skin will be the same colour as a random parent, but what shade is based on a blending of the parents' shades (eg. if you have a light blue mom and dark green dad, you can get a light green child).

I’ve always liked how Joe Carr looks and I always have someone marry him, his kids are always mean (in my experience) even if their mother is super nice his kids won’t have more than 5 points in niceness. Again this is just something that always happens to me so it might just be bad luck, or it could be something in his genetics,

I made a mod to make the hair and eye colors have more genetic levels. In my mod, hair color dominance goes black > brown > red > blond and eyes go brown > green > dark blue > light blue> gray. I also like to go through townies' and CAS Sims' SimPE files and add randomized recessive genes so that they can give me some surprises.

I love the sims 2 genetics, it really works like real genetics. Tough I really like to create simswithe unatural color hairs in other games and I think it's cool to be genetic, but I guess it should only work for those you create in CAS AND if you choose to be genetic. Also, are from POLAND! I'm from Brazil, but the place I live it's heavly polish culture centered! 😍

Genetic factors on personalities is just like in real life; genetics may play some role of the probabilities for someone leaning at something in life but it wouldn't always guarantee as the raising and environmental factors plays much larger role in shaping a person's personality! However in Sims 2, it's very much randomized at birth which may not be entirely impossible but unlikely in real life. I know many people who differ a lot from both their parents, especially when it comes to taste in both metaphorical and literal sense. Like my best friend hates licorice but her whole family loves it! The human psyche is still very mysterious and complex for our current understanding.

I loved sims 2 genetics…..I have to play sims 4 because it’s all I can get running and I hate the sims 4 genetics and I especially hate how it almost seems like red hair is dominant? I know it’s not because I know that system isn’t in place. But I swear every single sim with red hair I’ve ever played only has red haired kids even when their spouse doesn’t.
