i think the sims 4 would have ended up better if they hadn't repurposed project olympus' garbage into the sims 4's garbage. maybe not a lot better, but anything is better than what we got. (who knows, maybe they would have taken the series down a better route too)

Mid 30s is that age where you simultaneously feel young and very, very old when someones first Sims experience wasn't Sims 1. It was glorious, playing it on my best friends family computer in the living room.

Small detail but I always LOVED how this game’s walls worked. The subtle fade as you got closer instead of completely disappearing walls. I can’t help to imagine having something like that now in TS4. It’ll really make you appreciate and enjoy your builds a whole lot more. No other sims game ever did this. this is what the sims was meant to be. I was so baffled the new games removed story modes. without any goals to work towards, what am I supposed to do other than...build a pretty house, I guess? if sims had kept story goals I'd probably still play to this day. I was obsessed with this game and Sims 2 on my PS2 as a kid and the handheld games are fantastic, I highly recommend playing all of them!

I think a free roam mode with achievements / goals / one MAJOR goal to work towards with the ability to keep playing after finishing it would be a good compromise. I wouldn't be opposed to a wacky full-blown story mode in Sims 5 but I will be extremely surprised if they decide to do that again.

Something I noticed when I played this game again a few years ago is that, if youre living at your moms house and your simoleons dip down into double digits, someone will call you on the phone and give you money. So what I did was bought a shit ton of expensive items (cause it doesnt count for assets) and when I left, my mom PAYED ME MONEY BACK for upgrading all of her furniture. I also just grinded away at skills so when I left I was at highest level possible and I never had to worry about buying skill machines for my character

I played this when it came out when I was a teenager. I had a lot of fun, even though the main story could be a slog. My strategy was once I moved out from Mom's I would max out all my skills and that way I could focus on career unlocks. Once I met the career's requirements to move out I would get another career path and then keep leveling up and moving. Made the game much more fun that way. And yeah, you can totally skip Sims 1 as the story mode was not as fun. The free play mode was arguably much more fun tho.

One great tip is: stay with your mom until you maxed out your skills. You can also sell paintings and crafted garden gnomes for money to upgrade moms house early on. When i finally left she gave me like 20.000 simoleons. Never had to worry about money again. Moms house is also a great retreat if your sim is having a bad time. When i moved into a mew home i immediately renovated almost every room. In the club i even built a small house on the back for the three sims to live in. Places like the club and the gym had terrible living conditions right from the start. You can only marry someone from the three houses from freeplay. You can build your own spouse there and make them like you want them. Needless to say i 100%ed this game. I love it. The GBA sims games are waaaay different. You should really play those.

I loved this game! It was my first Sims game and was a great introduction to the series. By the way, there is a exploit to make this game much easier. You need to do it before you leave your mom's house. Basically certain needs, like sleeping, do not completely drain. So, you can spend as much time as you need building up all your skills before you leave. This means that you will be able to get promoted quick and you can spend more of your time focusing on the other goals.

Pro gamer tip. Move back to Mom’s house when trying to build skill levels or friendships. The bus for work never arrives and you never get penalised for absence. So you get to maintain your mood and improve skills with no consequence. Also if you’ve spent money ons property and need more, move out! The permanent residents actually reimburse you! Careful though, as they’ll credit you any money on items of theirs that you’ve sold or destroyed. Oh and if you dislike Club Rubb. You ain’t seen nothing yet until you’ve been to Toane’s Gym. Trying to convince those miserable bastards to join the gym is a hell on earth task. My sim was so pathetic that the only sim he could convince to join for the longest time was his own mother.

Yesssss I loved this game back in the day on the GameCube. My mom bought it as the ONE game for my console she’d wanna play, but sadly you can only have one sim or whatever and she was nice enough to let me erase her sim to make my own. Thanks mom, sorry for kicking you off YOUR game.

Bustin’ Out was my first ever sims game it’s what made me fall in love with the franchise, I was too young to even get past MiMi’s house back then so I’d mostly played free play and would be frustrated when my kids were clowns 😂🤦🏾‍♂️ for my birthday last year I got the game again, it’s definitely really hard but I love it

I loved this game back on the PS2. I’d always stay at Mom’s house indefinitely in the beginning to max out some of my skills since you don’t have to pay bills there 😂

You actually move in with Mimi regardless of career choice. Then you unlock more and more homes the further you get.

Before moving out my sim, I remember raising his stats to max, so the rest of the game just involved making money, helping the Sims, being promoted and beating the main game.

Remember playing this as a kid, for some reason i always thought that you had to do all missions to move out to other house, i know you can, but i felt empty whenever i move out and i still had missions left to do, so i was just jumping from career to career all the time hahaha

I loved this game and still have it for the one day that I'll try to finish it, but today was the first time I ever saw gameplay past the 3rd house. Keeping your sim alive was such a struggle and I would rage quit before starting over later.
