He makes sure that after a sharpish turn, he's the first to stabilise the car and with these (opposed to his usual car) relatively underpowered cars, he downshifts and optimally uses the low rpm torque to get away from the corner quickly. That's how he gets such nice exits...
@fan2hd277Ай бұрын
I‘m always impressed how clean and fast his corner exists are. Very precise damn.
@CloxxkiАй бұрын
In this video you see his early braking and brake release to get the car to rotate really nicely, to the point of making a clean unexpected overtake. It's not the fastest way around, but we see an exaggerated execution there I think. Corner exits onto straights are where you make time and set up overtakes, so only in hard battle should that be 2nd priority.
@MasterSandmanАй бұрын
@@CloxxkiExactly! That's also what he does in F1. He starts braking early but doesn't slam the brakes, but slows the car down *just* enough, then puts more steering in to get around sharpish, so he can stabilise the car early. Here he downshifts and uses the low rpm torque, to accelerate more quickly away from the corner. This benefits him massively onto the straights! So brilliant to watch... 😊

Canadian. Stroll is a pay driver at this point. Watching Max is just sublime. The way he feels out maximum lateral load early in the turn in, the way he rotates the car in the shortest amount of time humanly possible, the way he adapts to other drivers ahead as if he can see the future. These low aero cars showcase the skills that a 4x WDC has. Amazing how quickly he rotates the car! None of these moves seem like murder to me. The S’s are one line and he was ahead so yeah “crash or back off” but the smart thing is to tuck in behind. The move on Dave caught him out because “no one tried a move there” but it seemed legit. No one ended up punted off. Sim racers get their panties in a bunch if an overtake has any contact but your driving BMWs?!?! He had way more pace and didn’t want to stuck behind for longer than necessary.

Spot on there. The thing is that many drivers are just remembered for their results after a while and not their behaviour gaining them. Senna, Schumacher, Piquet, Prost (perhaps not so much on track but more in playing politics), but also more recent drivers such as Vettel, Alonso and Hamilton could be ruthless on track and all of them have been called out for being too aggressive. But as their results are further and further in the past people forget about that and suddenly they become the best people that ever lived. I find it hilarious how often people are now using Senna's "if you no longer go for a gap". Do people actually know the context of that quote? He used that quote to justify his on track behaviour in an interview with Jackie Stewart when he was being called out on being too aggressive after he torpedoed Prost in Suzuka 1990.

no denying the talent. He takes advantage of everything and that includes lines that work in the sim but might not in RL (putting wheels in the grass and having zero respect for the kerbs). @sbn-game20 күн бұрын
The car setups he drives requires very smooth input, notice that on most exits he is steering only 1% sometimes even 0%. The weight transfer is steering the car for him, this requires so much skill to be able to do at his level

In my younger days I was in a professional off road truck racing program here in the states as crew chief and co-rider, and I learned a lot about how race drivers think if they want to win. One of the things is if you come back after a race without a scratch on the vehicle then you may not have been trying hard enough. I've read hundreds of forums/ comments from sim racers complaining about being dive bombed or someone didn't leave them enough room. I can tell you that as a driver if you leave a window open that the other driver thinks he can get through he likely will take it with very little regard for what happens to you. Your closing comments summed up my feelings exactly. I may add that I've watched a ton of your videos and can say that you are a excellent driver and have great car control. momentum everywhere. Later into the brakes, earlier onto power, carrying more through corners and always looking for an inch on track - so presumably keeping enough in the car he is able to react to positions as they change through a corner and take advantage so rarely held back (especially those first couple of laps)

I'm a Verstappen fan because of German bias (there are no upcoming German talents and Max lives nearby and speaks the language extremely well, so that counts in my book)

Can actually see how on the nose he likes his setup. The car turns in quite sharp. Forcing the precise use of throttle on exit to plant the rear and prevent it from sliding too much. Wish we had throttle and break input indicators. Be interesting to see how deep he is pushing into each corner with the car setup.

Hate to dispel your premise, but the BMW M2 CS on iRacing is a new rookie class car that is only offered as a fixed set up that can't be changed. Many hope that iRacing will eventually change that. For now, they're all driving the exact same car. I agree it would be great to see his telemetry through the race.

@@jk87876 In that case, probably how he drives it in on the brakes.

It absolutely amazing how effortless it looks watching him drive when a dumbass like goes out there and its just hot chaos the whole time

Dave you opening comment on drivers fits my opinion exactly. I'm English and a Lando supporter. At the end of the day you have to be good to be in F1.

Like this style of video Dave!

I watched this video with the sound off so not sure if Dave covered this. But watch the wheel. On some corners the wheel was straight, classic karting style, something I learned when I used to race cadet class. So many people (including me sadly) use too much steering input. One of the reasons he can get on the power on corner exit so well.

I would like to see Max in a NASCAR, I think it would be a great watch. No holds barred racing and using each other up in the corners

I realy love your content Dave, i have been following you now since 3 years ( 2 years unofficial ) i am Dutch and a Max fan. the fact that you needed to explain yourself why you support a British or all british drivers or why you wouldnt support the person Max( but respect the driver ) is exactly whats wrong with this era, i feel you should not even need to explain yourself. cant we all just accept the fact that we all just support 1 driver? eveyone has a favorite, mine is Max but does that mean i have to dislike Hamilton or Alonso or George? letsget it like in the old days, you support a driver and you respect the rest cause they put their lives line for this amazing show.

Being a fan of a person's talent and not liking the person who owns it is perfectly fine. Sean White comes to mind immediately.

That’s awesome racing with real pro drivers! I would be more aggressive on ACC if the slightest touch didn’t lower my SA 😅
