I am not into cosmic horror and have not read any lovecraft stories but i thought this was a neat game. You had all the same criticisms i had for it. I guess none of them were bad enough for me to quit playing. The thing i enjoyed most was trying to figure out addresses.

Did you play the Call of Cthulhu RPG game that came out a year or two before this? I thought it was okay. There were some spots I had trouble with and used a guide. I was hoping I would like it enough to try different character builds. I haven't played it since I beat it.

I haven't played it myself because I write Call of Cthulhu games! But I'm playing the Thaumaturge right now and it's excellent. It's in the same vein as CoC and The Sinking City, and really solid. Still to finish it but when I'm done I'll be posting a review.

As a rather big lovecraft fan, this game was a massive disappointment. I was excited due to this being made by the studio who works on the Sherlock Holmes games so I was expecting a really good detective game. The game did start out rather strong when it came to the investigation gameplay but the fun fell off a cliff once combat was brought into the picture. That and the amount of bugs that I had experienced going through the game, like having my boat float in mid air due to the world not rendering for several seconds.

Geez I didn't have any floating boats (brings new meaning to the saying float your boat). But it was very janky - disappointing because there's so much cool content to work with in the Lovecraft mythos. Couldn't agree more with your comments.

Currently playing this on the switch since the price point of it was on sale, literally it was $7 for me to buy it which was crazy. I remember watching other people play it, and also remembering me being very interested in the lore. I was so excited to see how it would play, and I’m honestly not very disappointed. Even though yes graphically the switch does not give the game credit with how stunning I feel it should be. Just surprised the switch actually runs it. And it’s not bad for being a hand held game. But the combat sucks Edit: not being a hand held in the first place, but playing it on switch which is more of a handheld console. It’s still surprising to me

A good, honest review. Initially I was excited about this game coming to PS5 with "enhancements", but it seems they're purely cosmetic. Also, that wonky fisheye camera view in the indoor sections (as in 4:08) looks awful; it's dizzying and pointless. Sadly, this game seems to suffer from far too many problems for me to try it out even at the $30 sale price. Anyways, thanks for the review!

@@anamshah4421 Thanks for the heads up, but I've decided to pass. Played it and found the camera to be a deal-breaker. There's a weird fisheye lens effect that engages whenever you go indoors. It makes me dizzy and ruins the immersion. Yes, I know I'm weird.😆

@@bveracka damn that sucks. Totally understandable as i can play other fps. But I can't plat Metro Exodus. Every 15 minutes i would get a headache. No problem with other fps though. Weird right

@@KatClay I really enjoyed "Call of cthulhu dark corners of the earth" but the controls are a bit janky, another Lovecraft game, I enjoyed was Necronomicon gateway to darkness, it's point and click, but a decent adaptation of "The case of Charles dexter ward". wasn't a fan of the Recent "Call of cthulhu" though.

Good question... I think there's a fair amount of issues and better games to play right now, but if you're a Cthulhu die hard you might enjoy it.
