Excellent movie. Very well done. Either we want inspirational movies or buffoonery. We have to show support for films like this.

I will also say that Ebony obsidian did a great job but she was doing a very strange accent through the first half of the movie and that’s something that Tyler Perry never checks. Her accent is absurd in Sistas. I know it’s set in Atlanta but literally nobody else has an accent on that show. This man is from the south and has lived in Atlanta for years. He knows good and well nobody talks like that

Good review fellas!!! I like when reviewers have differing opinions and we can hear both perspectives. So I agree that I’m glad Tyler Perry told this story but wish he would have let another person write it! The love story theme was annoying. I enjoyed the parts where they focused on how the women where able to get the mission done!!

It was nice to highlight this piece of history, although it did seem a bit simplistic. I think the hardship of what these women endured and accomplished could have had more emphasis. I agree with Malcom with regards to hallmark feel.

I agree with Malcolm. There is so much that they could have showed instead of just said out loud. The scene where everyone is listing their skills while sorting the mail, it would’ve been more impactful if we just saw it unfold. Or the process of how they turned that dingy building into a salon, showers, beds, etc. All we saw was a little welding and sawing wood, but where did they get the hooded dryers in Europe? Who does the hair? I would’ve appreciated seeing everyone’s unique skills play out. It felt like it did a disservice to the service for all these things to just appear without TRULY showing the work. The training to detect a bomb in the ground! There’s so much that was just glossed over and those women deserved more care in the details of their story.

Im with Malcolm on this one. I would recommend to bring Dr. Jared Ball from the Black Liberation Media channel on to give his opinion on movies like this. Let's start with our people should not be in the military. The U.S military is a branch of white hegemony. Muhammad Ali explained this when he refused to be in the draft. Why show our people seeking white validation? Second, if we're for everything Black, we have to be against the portrayal of interracial relationships. The articles I read said the white male was her friend and at most she lost interest in him before she met the Black man she ended up marrying. TP as a Black man should be promoting Black love. It's a based on movie so he can add and subtract whatever he wants. Our lets be with whites, let's prove ourselves to whites, etc attitude comes from us not getting psychological healing from slavery. We need movies that show us being self determined, unified, organized, and committed to each other. And we historical moments that show all of that. TP is one dimensional. He doesn't have enough knowledge of our history. I give this movie a 3 out of 10

Last comment lol, the kerry washington "why"/arc was her character overcoming military code and perfectionism on behalf of black women to uphold a moral and and ethic code on behalf of black women. Why she needed to see ebonys characters empathy, shanices characters willingness to standup, her co-captain backing up her feelings of injustice, and the death of some of her batallion.

I didn’t have High expectations going in to watch this movie! With it being a Tyler Perry Movie! However I was Totally caught off guard.. I really enjoyed the movie as a Whole. Didn’t expect Oprah nor Susan Sarandon to make an appearance. It does feel like a Hallmark Movie 🎥 but maybe that’s so also it can be Shawn in schools. However the boyfriend ghost that kept popping up I didn’t like! Also Lena crying all the time and I just knew just knew the heavy set girl was going to be “the head snapping eyes rolling loud mouth of the bunch “… side note the actress who played her has a Beautiful voice!!.. including I enjoyed the movie for what it was, could it have been better yesss.. Also Kerry Washington really lead the whole cast her performance was 💯🎥

I also don’t like how they just told us that she ended up with the Black soldier and showed us a picture of the characters but didn’t show us a picture of them in real life. It all just ended too abruptly

Tyler Perry happened upon a piece of Black history that most African Americans are unaware of. He put it on screen for all of us to appreciate and enjoy. This was an excellent film and this Malcolm person sounds like a bitter critic. And, what film has he directed or produced. I don't care for some of Tyler's films and TV shows... But this was movie was EXCELLENT!!!

I kinda agree with Malcolm. To me, this is a good film and I loved the history it uncovered. What annoyed me was the other story being told, the personal story of Lena. I wasn't clear on her motivations for joining the army or for staying or really for anything. Where is the forlorn desire? What personal mission was she on? I don't buy that she's missing her boyfriend or wants to save him. Why not become a nurse? That would have been a sure way to make it to the frontlines. It can't be closure, because that's doing too much for closure. And I think Lena is the main character, but she did get overshadowed by Major Adams. TP doesn't really follow a beat sheet, so I'm not surprised. It's a great history lesson, but the story needs work.

Thought it was really good. Saw it in limited release theater first then on netflix. It was better in theaters, plus on netflix the backgrounds looked excessively blurry for some reason. The first act felt a bit forced and clunky (i can see what was meant by theater-like now), the second act was good and the 3rd was amazing until after that climax speech scene where they rushed the ending to just looking out the window of happy soldiers and the salute, that part could have been stretched out, kinda ended abruptly. I like the real footage at the end, i feel like if it was intermitten in the film it would feel too History Channel reanctment doc series for me lol

My favorite part about this film was Kerry Washington. Honestly I would have loved to see more of her and her why. To Malcolm’s point it was too simplistic to be a war film. I needed more depth. I hated the scenes of the dead white boyfriend popping up. It took away from the seriousness of the film. But I still thought it was a good film I definitely almost cried when they applauded Kerry. I like that they showed her being tough on the girls but also her love for them

I'm leaning towards Malcolm with this one. Great story and had to be told but it just felt like a play not a movie. My lady liked it more than I did but like I told her, it would've been a great play😂😂

This is an excellent movie. In my opinion, she didn’t play an angry black woman. Strong black woman? Yes…and that’s expected, considering her position of power. Angry?…not at all. She was also nothing like Madea. Sometimes we overthink.

I enjoyed the movie overall, but it was very hard to get used to Kerry’s accent she used for the film. It was a bit distracting at first but I got over it as the film progressed. However, the character Johnny Mae really frustrated me because she just seemed like the fat, darkskin, mean girl stereotype. Even though she explained that she escaped an abuse relationship, there was no sympathy for her. She also cried the most in the film & nearly each time she was reprimanded for it. Stereotypically she was the comedic relief & she did that well but I just wished he would’ve displayed her character in a more fleshed out way.

I give it a 5 too. Kerry was outstanding. She elevated the film. Best thing Tyler has done but still not good enough. I enjoyed it but the cast and the women the story was about deserved better.

I didn’t like the writing and direction. I did love Kerry and I felt the cast did the best they could with the material. But it was an elevation over Tyler’s other recent work. I found it watchable and fascinating but not good.

I saw a lot of the same things you guys criticized but none of it bothered me that much or took me out of it. In fact I was pretty locked in from the start. I thought visually it was exceptional. And weaving in the home town girl was a smart way to bring us into the larger story. I know we’re all different but to say this is typical Tyler Perry or that he hasn’t grown seems wild to me. The male soldier was a stalker? Come on man.

I can see how Malcolm Toussaint, feels in that many black films with more push could be Oscar Worthy! As well with a different director this could have been more epic. But for what Perry and Washington managed to accomplish here - so elevated Perry’s street credibility in my opinion. Much of the same weakness existed in this film as in most of Perry’s features but the difference here was this seamless sensibility and continuity to simply tell the story of these women, in other words the power came from not doing to much. Kerry Washington and Milauna Jackson are certainly the emulsifiers here and Susan Sarandon and Dean Norris level up the tension for sure. I love that Sarandon brought a little Bette Davis to the role. Sarah Jeffrey, Donna Biscoe and Shanice Williams are all on our radars now for sure and Ebony Obsidian seems as if she is worthy of caring the torch of Kerry Washington’s brilliance- should she continue to mold her craft!
