She is not a beauty guru. That would mean that she is an expert, which she is not. She is someone that, through trial and error, figured out what works best for skin needs. What works for her might not work for someone else. I’m saying it so that people who see your comment don’t think they can take what she says as face value. Everyone should find out what works for them and see a dermatologist, or at least what videos from certified dermatologists on youtube.

The bathroom at my house has two lights, one for the vanity mirror and an overhead light. I never turn the vanity one on because it just shows EVERYTHING and I know as soon as I see any kind of imperfections I will pick at them. You could also put another lamp in the bathroom that isn’t shining directly onto your face so that it’s still giving you light but you’re not exposing everything on your face and feeling tempted to pick lol.

My skin is a skin prone to acne skin and sensitive skin. I'll share what worked for me in controlling it. I ate less sugar and cooked at my own house with healthy foods. I also consumed nuts, seed varieties, and tender coconut to stay cool. I tried to stay relaxed and not worry excessively. I used sunscreen and cleansed my face twice with litleeextra riceberyy face wash. I changed my pillowcase every two days. I always tied up my hair and had lots of water. I avoided contacting my face too much. I followed my routine without missing a day.

When considering whether to wear sunscreen, keep in mind that the sun is literally THE thing that causes the skin to age. I’ve been advised by my dermatologists that sun protection is the most important thing you can do for your skin. Please don’t be frightened off by deceptive marketing about “chemicals” in sunscreen (everything is a chemical).

Fun fact; Vaseline and aquaphor are not moisturizing. You need to use a moisturizing product and then put a petroleum based product on top to keep the moisture in! Vaseline and aquaphor only retain the water that’s already existing in your skin!

PSA: if you're using a topical antibiotic like clindamyacin, it's extremely important that you use it daily to avoid developing acne that's antibiotic resistant. Just like you can't take an oral antibiotic on-and-off, you can't do that with topical antibiotics. You need to use it daily for the period of time that's been prescribed.

I just want to caution anyone using lash serums that contain anti-prostaglandins. They do cause darkening of the surrounding skin and in rare cases changes the pigment of the eye color BUT the symptom I was unaware of that freaked me out the most is that it can cause orbital fat atrophy. Basically it can make your eyes look hollow. I used to use Latisse and OMG I loved my lashes! They were so long and lush and I was fine with the darkening of my skin bc makeup covers it but I started noticing my eyes looked “different” and after doing research I found out why. I immediately stopped and I think any damage done may have been reversed but I just don’t want anyone to go thru a bad experience because they didn’t know the possible side effects. ❤ if you use it and love it, go for it! I’m just giving my anecdotal experience in case it helps anybody else.
@Al-ho1oo
@Al-ho1oo Жыл бұрын
Yes I've heard about that too. Do you know if serums that do not contain prostaglandins do the same?. I am using sweed lash that does not have prostaglandins however I am really concerned about the possibiliy of my eye fat changing

Kayli, I cannot express how much I relate to you about doing skincare in the dark. I actually love doing things in dim lighting in general, but I have always tried to keep the lights dim before bed especially. Sometimes it’s because I know that I will spend an hour destroying my face and/or my self esteem, but I also enjoy it for the relaxation. I recently fell back into the habit of picking at night, but I am trying to have the self discipline to not even touch the light switch if I have the urge to examine my acne (unfortunately I failed at that just moments ago). I am really glad to hear that someone else does this too. Especially for the confidence part of it. Boy has that been a struggle lately. Anyway, thank you for sharing and you are beautiful!

Kayli, I know you probably won't see this, but I feel like I speak for everyone when I say thank you. Personally, I share a lot of the same skincare concerns as you (and I am also on Tretinoin), and your routine just makes so much sense!! I especially like your emphasis on recovery, as I, too, feel like many of these products can be a bit drying. All in all, your content is amazingly helpful, and you're just super entertaining. Keep doing you! 😌

I stopped drinking milk and over-processed foods and reduced sugars as much as I could. Yes it comes and goes depending on my hormonal cycle, how much I stick to my skincare regiment, pollutants etc BUT from what I experience, we are what we eat, and getting my diet in check was a game-changer for acne getting built-up under the skin layers. ❤

I am also a recovered picker. I would see all those spots, my OCD tendencies would kick in, and then I would lose track of time going after every single spot I could see. And I would destroy my face in the process (even though I was doing extractions "the right way"). Also, doing that before bed was not conducive to going to sleep - my stress hormones would kick in and I couldn't relax. Anyway, I'm finally in the habit of staying away from bright lights before bed - especially in the bathroom. I do my bedtime facial care in the dim light of a 4 watt nightlight, and my skin loves me for it. It looks SOOO much better. One of the things that drastically changed my skin for the better is making sure that every product I use on my skin is the correct pH. I didn't realize how imperative it is to use products that have the proper acidity so that the acid mantel on your skin remains intact. If the pH of my skin gets altered, all hell breaks loose, and it's not pretty. Before I use any new product, I always use a pH strip to test it, and I expect it to fall somewhere near 5.5. The only exception is if I'm using an exfoliating product, such as a BHA/ salicylic acid (I too use Paula's Choice and it's amazing), but alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids will always have a slightly lower (more acidic) pH than your everyday products. Slightly more acidic is fine for a couple of times per week, but stay away from alkaline products (like baking soda) or it will damage the acid mantle on your skin.

Good thing you found your tiggers and took action (like diming the lights). I didnt pick at my skin in frot of the mirror but I used to do it when I was stressed. Gosh it took therapy 2 times, wearing gloves, tapping, stress relif hypnosis but I finnaly feel normal again. Omgosh all that shame and pain and helplessness, thank god I recovred. It makes me teary when I think of that dark period, and I am so glad you shared your struggle cuz I felt so wird and crazy when I had this problem. Spirinalactone is actually a diuretic that is used for blood pressure. That’s why it can make you dizzy, it is also used for acne and hair loss as well 😀sorry I’m a nurse😂

i just wanna say that i was put on clindamycin and tretinoin in january and i haven't had any skin purging so it might not be the same for everyone! i didn't have to wait for 3 months for it to work, i saw results almost immediately but it could be due to a different percentage of the active ingredient

I agree on the skincare in the dark so much! I've incorporated something similar around 2 years ago (my concept is that I don't look at my face too closely, no magnifying mirrors allowed in my house! :DD) and it saved my skin. I used to always destroy my skin by picking anything and everything that looked like it could be picked, making pimples into open wounds... no more though :) Now even if I have a pimple, I let it be and it eventually goes away by itself and what is more important - no dark marks left on the skin after. The other thing that really helped me is sunscreen and learning how to hydrate my skin properly :)

I do my skincare routine in the dark or very dim lighting too. I thought I was the only one. It helped decrease my acne anxiety on really bad skin purging days. Ignorance is bliss lol.
