"Actual game developers are so much smarter than i am", I am a game developer. as evidenced by these challenge runs, you are a game designer, you just are. every time you define the rules for a game run, every time you carefully select which mods youll use, every time chat suggests a modification to your rules and you think through the ramifications before accepting or rejecting, every time you explain why you rejected something, every time you make a decision which itself boils down to the best experience for the audience, you are doing the work of a game designer, and doing it well as evidenced by audience retention. If you think a game wouldnt benefit from having a challenge run designer on the team, i have to disagree with you.

Well said. It's difficult to wrap one's mind around the complexities that often go into a games creation. It's more than a concept produced to a concept created. From sound design, to tiny incremental adjustments done throughout a game's development, to significant changes sometimes requiring rethinking of entire concepts, there is nothing quite like having that person, or those people, who can critically ask "What if...?" followed by "Yes, but...". While all parts must come together to create a great game, one may argue fun diminishes most quickly when the design itself is flawed. I suppose Bethesda games are a great example. Despite all the glitches, the core design is just plain fun. So fun, in fact, that aside from game breaking bugs, most people look at the majority of glitches and laugh, calling them Bethesda features. Anyway, I'm ranting. haha

If you go to the statue of Meridia, she'll point you to the beacon, which is very worth doing because for some baffling reason the dungeon it unlocks has just huge amounts of money on all the dessicated corpses. You might be able to afford a home using the money from there alone. UESP says a range from 1075-5375 gold by looting all corpses.

Yes, and unfortunately the end boss of the dungeon has a staff of fireballs, and you have to fight him twice in a row.

to this day the dragons combat ai still manages to amaze me.. it spots you, attacks you, you attack back and this goes on for a bit and all of a sudden the thing takes off to attack pack of wolves 3 miles away and may never return 🤷🏻‍♂️

I mean, lorewise it makes sense... if the drain feels like it's going to die, survival kicks in, and it flees. (Yes, I know they are prideful, but most any living thing will fear for its life.) However, I know it's bugthesda and this is just the scripts deciding it's time for their union break, regardless of what is currently happening....

If I may suggest, add one of those ferry/carriage mod to your load order when you aren't playing with the randomized doors. One of those that puts carriages in the lesser holds like Morthal, Dawnstar, Falkreath, and Winterhold, and that allows you to drop you off at the lesser towns, orc strongholds, and mining towns, like Carriage And Ferry Travel Overhaul. 1) Skyrim was designed with fast travel in mind from the get go. The game is full of quests where you must travel massive distances simply to chat with some rando NPC in order to make a quest progress. And the last thing that I want is for you to burn out of Skyrim challenge runs because you are tired from hiking back and forth from point A to point B. 2) It would add to your normal challenge runs the location variety of the randomizer challenge runs. 3) Being able to easily pop in and out of the lesser holds and towns on the fly would open up new challenges ideas and new strategies for your current challenge. 4) And lastly, having to pay each time you want to enter or leave a hold would go hand in hand with the Pay To Win challenge.

I think the skill trader thing would be interesting for a more fleshed out / grindable challenge within this rule set, like a purchase home% speed run that’s more vanilla without lootboxes, but also more restrictive on how you can progress. You’re going for maximum points, within a time limit, so I think it makes more sense for the point rewards to be tricky but fast and extremely open ended. You need a much smaller goal in order to play with extra restrictions because, as one example, skill trainer level ups are extremely tough to balance for the same reason radiant quests aren’t worth it on survival (they cost about 100gp and you make about 100gp) but if you’re only going to 5,000gp it seems crawlable

If you use the slow time shout and tap like a madman on the stones of Barenziah you can get 4 stones for every 1 you find. You can complete the entire set with just the ones in Whiterun (almost). If you prefer not to use exploits, graverobbing draugr tombs is the superior choice. Just be sure to loot every draugr container (not just the enemies) and burial urn. You can get 1000 gold per dungeon run. All draugr tombs are lucrative, but the burial types like Hillgrund's tomb are the best. More corpses to rob. And if you find meridia's beacon, take it. Meridia's tomb is drowning in desecrated corpses and each corpse holds 25-125 gold each. There's 22 corpses in total, meaning a profit of 550-2750 in 30 minutes

I've seen a mammoth spawn that had its height adjusted to how far away i was from it, where if I got close it came down but if i walked away it would rise into the sky. I think bedlam jobs from the thieves guild would’ve been the way to go. You just steal 500 gold worth of goods from whatever hold and you get to keep the goods to sell. Lines up with the mod cause they’re for a quest

If you do this challenge again, you should buff the chests significantly (like 'decent chance for a daedric artifact' buffed) but the chests don't count towards the victory condition. That way you have to balance between scoring points and investing in making your character better (and having those investments actually pay off)

The shades do not drop gold, indeed, they rarely drop anything. The corpses all over the dungeon however can be looted for upwards of 200 gold each. Unfortunately the end boss has, in addition to a horde of shades, a staff of fireballs, and you have to fight him twice (once as a human mage, and once as a shade).

I understand if it's an intentional hindrance but that combined with the point system made your objective nearly impossible

( not sure if either one exists or is possible). I do like the challenge.
