It was a failure. But it was a grand, sweeping one and frankly, it didnt fail by a lot IF you were a fan of the books. There was no way to fit that awesome text into a 2hr film and make it comprehensible to someone who had never read the books. And we should ALL read that series.

For those wondering: "Awakened" is the past tense of the verb "awaken", meaning to rise from sleep, while "awoken" is the past tense of the verb "awake", also meaning to rise from sleep. In other words, awake and awaken are two distinct verbs that both mean "to rise from sleep." The verb forms for awake are irregular, but the most common choices are awake, awoke, and was awoken. The verb forms for awaken are regular: awakens, awakened, was awakened.

When I watch films like Dune, Bladerunner, the Wrath of Kahn and Alien I almost want to cry. Just to think that Sci-fi in the 70's and 80's was so fantastic that a masterpiece like Dune was at the time considered pretty average. Now we have complete shit like Avatar and Prometheus. In my opinion of the 00's only Pitch Black and Moon would fit in with the pre 90's classics.

Oh shit, I just gave someone a Moon comparison in referencing the latest Gundam show. That really is a great movie... that and Sunshine. I miss sci-fi getting _weird,_ like my most recent favorite movie being Upgrade, while I of course loved The Expanse series. I really hope that one comes back, but I've got more than enough reasons to read the books now 😂
@Solus50486 ай бұрын
Just bcoz you don't like something doesn't mean it's 'shit'
@zeratulcraft6 ай бұрын
And liking something doesn't mean it's not shit. Prometheus has objective problems, like why not just wait for the storm? You're in space, you don't have to go to the planet before the storm. Why not wear helmets? It's a hostile environment with unknown pathogens. Alien and Aliens had solutions for every logistic problem - some of them emotional. Eg. Ripley says maintain quarantine, it means that dude will die. She is overridden by people acting emotionally to try to save the mans life and so the plot can happen.
