One has to remember, not only did Assange tell of hideos illegality in US military misbehaviour, he created a mechanism for whistleblowing which actively protected whistleblowers. So not only did he embarras the US, their military and security services, he provided a means to continue to provide openness and an anti-corruption platform which is such a threat to the corrupt that he had to be silenced by any means, including killing him, which is known to have been considered and may yet still occur.

Legally it cannot be allowed, it is illegal to use the classification system to suppress information of criminality and wrongdoing. What I always wondered, deliberately classify materials in evidence of crime, how is the criminality associated with the crime proven? In NSA v Jewel a very similar conundrum was forwarded by the appellate court which denied the plaintiffs, in essence the government claimed the plaintiffs had no standing, and without evidence of harm the case could not reach the standing requirement. The problem as I see it is the government is allowed to "hide" evidence, criminal or otherwise, in any case it deems appropriate and cannot be made to reply to a motion of discovery.

10:00 - "There is almost no pretence of due process". That's intentional. There is exactly as much pretence of due process as they need to get away with all this without getting into trouble with the media and on the international level, after factoring in all the pressure that is going on there behind the scenes. Apart from that, they want it to be obviously arbitrary, obviously unjust and obviously cruel for maximal deterrence of others who might be looking for effective ways to hold the powerful to account. Which is of course the most dangerous. It's the same as with torture. Torturing regimes always hide and deny their atrocities only just to the point that they can get away with them. But never more than that, as they want it to be generally known so it works as a deterrent against anyone threatening their power.

I have been a lawyer for 33 years and I am convinced that England turned Julian Assange into a diplomatic asset to extort commercial advantages from the USA. This explains why the Court did not recognize any of his rights. Human beings have rights; things and people that have been reified like Assange cannot demand due process of law. The illegal undue process used in the Assange case is a characteristic of the state of excesses and exception. The English Judiciary did nothing more than create a simulacrum, as the outcome of the process (the handing over of Assange to the Americans) had already been decided since he was unduly caged in the Embassy of the country that gave him political asylum. The very violation of the right to asylum is proof of the excesses and exceptions that England used to serve its diplomatic partner and extort advantages from it. The history of the Weimar Republic satisfactorily proves that a democratic constitutional system cannot endure for long when it is exceptionally left aside whenever an authority (Adolf Hitler in Germany, the English Court in the Assange case) believes it is necessary. Therefore, it is not just press freedom that will be destroyed by Assange's martyrdom.
@dandeeteeyem2170 Жыл бұрын
It's an excellent theory, and I applaud your efforts in making sense of this ludicrous situation. It's a lot simpler than that. He still has secrets that could collapse civil society, and they assume he is reckless enough to publish them. They underestimate his intelligence and his humanity. The truth is awful. Don't Look Up
@strezztechnoid Жыл бұрын
Yes, I don't see how people have missed this. Not understanding the extrajudicial exercise of state power and international law without accountability, Assange's lawyers have no chance at anything resembling fair play let alone a fair hearing or trial. This is a one way street, downhill, with grease and oil spread on the surface road--and there are no brakes. Not only was Julian under the umbrella of political asylum, he was made an Ecuadorian citizen. When the British police decided to breach the embassy, claiming permission from Ecuadorian authorities, they also crossed the border of Ecuador to snag Julian. The Ecuadorian government was essentially demonstrating that Ecuadorian citizens could not rely on their government to represent their interest within the context of basic human rights, but any rights of all Ecuadorians. Not a peep, word, or strongly worded letter made light of this and you can see more of the same given that the Swede taken into custody in Ecuador for merely being associated with Assange. Every aspect of this case; the way and manner that charges were brought and from where, nation state cutouts for CIA/FBI in Sweden and Iceland playing judicial footsie with the UK and US government, and the judicial officers sworn to honor the procedural rules and uphold UK law proved themselves miserable shills to U.S. marching orders.
@fabiodeoliveiraribeiro1602 Жыл бұрын
@@strezztechnoid You're absolutely right. National and international laws attribute rights to all human beings without any exception or distinction. States have a duty to distribute justice without dehumanizing defendants. In general, they did this, but sometimes they just try to keep up appearances so as not to destroy the perception that there is legal security. But in the Assange case, this did not even happen. England just crushes him like he's a bug. Assange's situation is one of absolute legal uncertainty: he has no rights, no one should believe that Justice will grant him any rights and the English judicial authorities are happy to act publicly as if they were executioners carrying out a punishment that had already been decided in the basements of a planetary dictatorship. Who will be the next victim of this rights grinding machine to persecute and destroy innocent people? If the English justice system did all this to a world-renowned man who became the publisher who supplied material to the main newspapers on the planet, what will it not do to ordinary people?

In Scotland, a jury consists of fifteen people. In Salmond's case, the majority of the jury were female. They acquitted him on every single charge. 2) Craig Murray was WRONGLY imprisoned for simply reporting the proceedings of the Salmond trial, mostly drawn from previously published open sources. There was NO JURY for his trial. His fate was decided solely by a judge. In other news, Sturgeon had appointed the senior judge in Scotland to her Cabinet.

Is it possible that by appointing Assange as a diplomat, conferring Diplomatic Immunity, that the Australian Government could order his immediate release to the Australian Embassy and his transfer to Australia? A fascinating interview! Such an interesting and absorbing account of courage and resolve. Thanks.

If someone made an intelligent cómic cartoon with Julian's treatment since he was persecuted it will probably be a success in box office and audience awareness
Absolutely disgusting, just makes you want to scream!

Thankyou both for your tireless support for Julian. UK US colonial playbook "why hire a barrister when the govt can buy a judge".

In retrospect, the support as a normal citizen, in giving government the benefit of the doubt back then was a big mistake.

Such an important show. With sadness and ugliness of ‘the system’ laid bare here, it’s heartening to know that good people like these are out there shed light on its injustices.

Our Julian Assange, is a great Australian hero. The Australian public will never forgive Washington and London, for the terror they inflicted and continue to serve daily, on Australia's most prominent journalist. And for what is that terror inflicted on Julian? It's because he revealed the truth about US war crimes. He didn't even say much...just showed a video, where civilians were murdered in cold blood by the orders of Washington, and executed by the US military in a foreign country. Total War Crime... that's why Washington persued and locked up mr. Assange. Yes...for showing the truth about American crimes against humanity.. and all that video was recorded by the US soldiers in by the helicopter performing the murders...all done with great boastings.. calling the Asian civilians, dirty names.. revealing great racist mental make-up...showing the truth about much of white America.

Assange exposed many more things, like the corruption of the Clinton's for instance! Shame on the US and the UK's Judiciary. Absolutely revolting.

When it’s time to protest, every lefty voice on the internet needs to unanimously tell us what to do and where to go. I will quit my job and drive 24 hours straight to DC if you tell me where screaming is needed.
