Fun. Nice to see an analog video that hasn't been done over and over again. 👍

Great video! I got into film one year ago. This film, 2254, has been my most used. I’ve shot probably 30 rolls of it. I love it! I’ve shot it in all seasons, and always, there’s a bluish turquoise cast to everything. It’s lovely!

Do you develop in C-41 or ECN2? im half way through a roll and im wondering what is best to dev in (especially as i don't need to worry about remjet) as ive heard good reviews for both ways

@@alexmcole9864 Hey there, I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. Please forgive me. I've never developed in ECN2, though I have the powder chems for mixing it. I've only developed it in C41. I love the look! Now I have 200' of it I'm in the process of bulk rolling. I'll be shooting it for years, I think. Cheers!!!

I'm reminded of the old Kodak Technical Pan film, a long discontinued B&W film. In the day, it had quite a following of photographer masochists who combated both low speed, as here, plus very high contrast.

Ohhhh do I love Kodak Tech Pan !!!! I had some up to last year.. Wonderfull film... I rate it at ISO125 and process it with Kodak HC-110... Here are some portraits I did with this majestic film: www.flickr.com/photos/gaetancormier/albums/72157662738953473

Have you looked at Phenidone-based developers for Technical Pan? One oddball use for TP was to create "black-and-white" slides by copying monochrome negatives. I recall rating this developed-in-Dektol exercise at E.I. 16-32. Then there was Agfa Copex Pan/Copex Pan Rapid that turned into "H&W Control Pan film," processed in a Phenidone-based developer than could resolve automobile license plates from hundreds of meters away. (Tripod mandatory, of course.;)

An Eastman Kodak copy film? I recall several of those with sub-ISO 25 speeds back when Kodachrome was still on the market. Ektachrome Slide Duplicating Film (ISO 16T) was one such film, then there were the cine copy films, mostly Tungsten balanced (3200K or 3400K). Some of these color copy films were also balanced for long exposures, with reciprocity law failure a real issue with exposures faster than 1/10 sec.

I went and got 1.6 ISO film from B&H...it said 'LOW ISO' on the film canister and had a long exposure photograph house on the water of a beach on the label. I got it because I finally was able to conquer C-41 color developing at home. I loaded it in my Wal*Mart special Suprema Mini GTG camera with the shutter removed and a hot melt glue/popsicle stick shutter in its place and the battery taken out. There seems to be no problem with reciprocity failure to speak of...even in the 20 minute range..I used my Canon digital camera running CHDK set to f/8 and 80 ISO and played with the manual override on the long shutter speed (setting: LongExp) until I got a look that I wanted, then took the time I ended up with and multiplied by 200...so if it takes 1 second at f/8 80 ISO, in the Suprema Mini GTG with this film loaded it will need 3 minutes and 20 seconds. I busted 12 frames in the subjects' backside and yeeted the film out of the take-up spool in the dark and placed it in the developing tank and ran a color developing cycle for the normal temperature and time. ALL of the pictures came out properly exposed and visible. However when scanning with a ISO Film2SD machine, you need to crank up the EV on the red channel to full positive, and all the way negative on the green and blue channels, and the master channel gets -1 EV lower (on the machine). Then once you get the files into GIMP you run the Equalize filter on it. After that I used scissors to shape the remaining leader and blasted some more 35mm squares. Then I developed that end in Caffenol for 27 minutes using 6 teaspoons of instant coffee (cannot be decaf), 3 teaspoons of washing soda, and 1 teaspoon of crushed vitamin C pills at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Then you do a color development making sure that you do the first bath (color dev) for 16 minutes, then the blix for 8 minutes. Result is a red-tinged positive image on the strip of film.

Neat vid, very helpful and explains things well. I’m only just starting to experiment with super slow films and long exposures, recently bought an expired re-roll on eBay the seller rated at .00012 ISO - I don’t think it gets any slower than that :)

That is a very interesting film. It is a nostalgic look. It sort of reminds me of old Ektachrome from my youth in the 1970s in a way. Maybe even Ektachrome that was a bit outdated. Ektachrome in the 1970s was of course not nearly this slow, but It has that look of a narrow dynamic range, and the look like the "white balance" is a bit off. The look of these photos is very 1970s color magazine photos to me. I really like this. Great video!

I just received a roll of this from FPP and loaded it up in my Canon EOS 3. Lowest I can set the ISO is 6, so I assume I should overexpose by two stops? Tomorrow is supposed to be mostly sunny, so I'm going to see if I can shoot it tomorrow in the city while maintaining social distancing.
@FrankWalsh
@FrankWalsh 5 жыл бұрын
I like the coffee cup shot. The warmer light helps. For the long exposures, the reciprocity failure probably comes into play which is why they were not overexposed. I guess you probably need to shoot +2 stops or maybe more. Also - Check out www.ultrafineonline.com/ for "weird" Kodak cinema films or significantly less money that FFP (Hey, those guys are awesome, don't get me wrong!).

I'd always go medium format, and I'd bring something to really emphasize the colors, like Ektar or Velvia 50. Hope this helps!
