Dynamic DNS isn't just for remote access. It's incase your ISP changes your IP address on you. DDNS will keep your VPN config updated with your WAN IP info.

@@Jannickjayit has been working flawlessly. For my NAS at home, I have one of the network ports wired to the Brume as a VPN client. Then, I have the other network port wired into my router so that I can still access it on my local network. The nightly backups have been working perfectly and I don’t miss paying a monthly fee for cloud storage.

I've got an older version of this that I use as a travel router. It's limited to 100Mbit ethernet and realistically you're getting 40-70Mbit on Wi-Fi but it's great for when I want a personal Wi-Fi AP when traveling. If it's just about connecting to your home network I'd argue tailscale is the best solution for 95% of people.

Hell yes! I knew something like this was possible with OpenWRT hardware but I would be MORE than happy to have a plug-n-play option...had been wanting to use my folks' place as an off-site backup, and a pair of these would make that config 10x easier 👍

Not coming with an integrated switch can be considered a good thing for some of us. My current router, a consumer POS, only has the common 4 LAN ports, so I added an 8 port gigabit switch and have everything plugged into it. I figured having PCs connecting to the NAS on the same switch was better than sending anything through one wire to the router. My Brume2 is ordered and comming soon. It will be a simple swap.

Enabled drop in gateway function on them and plugged each one in to there remote lans via wan ports on Brumes as per drop in instructions. I plugged Apple TV into the lan port of Brume and it worked as designed all Apple TV traffic went down vpn. However few days later realised all lan trafffic from remote lans were going down tunnel even tho it’s only Apple TV that was plugged into brume device. Id left the main router doing dhcp so no way other traffic on lan should use the brume and vpn. You or anyone else had this issue please?

3:08 The device has only a few ports because it is designed as a travel router; it needs to be small enough to fit in limited luggage space or in your pocket while traveling. To increase the number of ports, you can use another network device, such as a switch, which can be compact yet offer more ports. However, be aware that this device, and others in its class, typically have less powerful hardware, resulting in slower speeds. For example, the comparable Mango GL-MT300N-V2 won't exceed speeds of around 60 Mbit/s.

I wouldn't really call it smallest. Although it definitely doesn't have most amazing specs and hardware acceleration, Mikrotik mAP lite is tiny, even compared to Brume2. Beside the microUSB it also takes in PoE in (11-57V), and for those of need to remote access or a WiFi access point it can be a really interesting solution

Wow what a great video, thank you! I have a question regarding the VPN: I would like to set up a HTTP Proxy and connect it to a VPN. I read that it’s possible with the gl.inet but I would like to have different IP addresses for different phones connected to the router. My questions are: 1) will it be possible to switch the IPs without a big hustle in-between connecting the phones? 2) do you think social media platforms like TikTok should be able to detect that it’s a VPN or will it be safe since the VPN isn’t on the actual mobile device but on a router? I hope you can share your thoughts on these-would appreciate it a lot 🙏🙏

While reading reviews for this device, I've seen a number voicing concern that the WAN is 2.5Gbps while the LAN is 1Gbps, calling that a stupid idea. I admit, that it's a marketing flex to have that 2.5Gbps, but there is a small reason for it. The Wireguard VPN has a rated througput of over 350Mbps, which would be going over the WAN along with LAN to internet traffic. Example, if someone is using the VPN to access the internet (say for geolocation) that 350Mbps is on the WAN as full duplex. If others on the LAN are also accessing the internet, if the WAN was 1Gbps, the internal access would then be limited to 650Mbps. However, with the WAN being 2.5Gbps, the LAN can access the internet using the full 1Gbps while the VPN is also using 350Mbps. Assuming your ISP connection is over 1Gbps. Which is where this can be a marketing flex. Only users who have a frequent heavy need for the VPN to internet access would use ISP speed faster than their LAN port.

All three would run both client and server? TIA

I like the idea of using this appliance as the VPN server rather than configuring it on the server. I have 500mb fiber but that is terminated outside my home and an ethernet cable comes in the wall and connects to a dlink AC1200 router. I'm not sure what connections i would make (wan and lan cables) and I'm not sure where the wireguard software would be installed (on client pc?). - Sad and helpless noob 😢
