The most criminally underrated band in Rock history. They were/are super tight, great writers, and good people. Smithereens RULE!

Aside from being a big fan of this band, I have to say that Pat’s voice fit perfectly with their style and genre of music. It’s too bad he’s gone now. He is greatly missed!

that is the story of a lot of great underated bands or muscians the pretty boys or girls who have little talent make it and muscians with no looks don't make it.The Smithereens were one of the greatest rock bands in music history they deserve some praise .Pat was a great singer songwriter and the band were all great players as well.they did not write many bad tunes.anyone looking for great rock and roll from the late 1980's-90's check them out you will love them!

I was worried the live version of this song would suffer because it lacked the heavy harmony of the studio version. But the raw energy these guys play with here more than compensates. They flat out nailed it.

I miss Mike too. I really miss Pat. They were under rated? How? When? Dennis is funny and Jim is sweet but Pat gave me the impression that he was the smartest one of the band. I wish Pat was alive today I would give him a kiss and a hug.

I always loved these guys. But I don’t think I realized how good they were until, after cranking them up in my room one day, my visiting grandfather said, “Who was that? Those guys have good rhythm.” This was a guy who was born in 1922. Of course, he was from New Jersey, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Unfortunately for all this is as close as they got. I had loved this band since a co-worker loaned me "Especially for You" the mid eighties. He was into odd bands like NRBQ and such so I didn;t think much of it until I listened to it. Wow! been a fan ever since. I feel bad that the band never attained much commercial success but am glad they as still at it albeit minus Mike. Rock ON!

How these guys never achieved superstardom is beyond me. Maybe it was b/c they couldn't fit in during the glam/hairspray era of the mid-late 80s and they weren't grungy looking or sounding enough when that genre took over from the late 80s to early 90s? In any event, they're my favorite band of all time - I own everything they ever did. I only wish I had joined their fan club during the 80s. Woulda had a lot more cool stuff.
@danelogan15326 жыл бұрын
They weren't famous? I remember they were... grunge was early 90's to 1997-98. Pretty much that died when Kurt died. Pretty much all music died when Kurt died, with a few exceptions and old music I still listen to... The Smithereens being one and the newer exception being Clutch. I never joined their fan club either. I didn't really even know about them until the 90's. I was into grunge back then strictly ... I liked some glam rock but wasn't really my thing... Poison and a band called Hanoi Rocks were my favourite glam rock bands. Nirvana was and still is my favourite band of all time.... I would place The Smithereens after Nirvana and Clutch being at number 3. My newest favourite is Greta Van Fleet... although they sound too much like Zeppelin, they have potential. Very talented. They are bringing back that old 70's rock music ( or trying to). Music sucks nowadays... can't stand (c)rap, r and b or pop. Maybe only some folk and indie, that's it oh and GVF and a band called Skating Polly ( check em out). I also love Father John Misty alot. I love A.A. Bondy. Great songwriter. and Langhorne Slim. That's about it for modern music. Of course there may be tons of great underground bands I just haven't heard them. Those are my top faves... can't stand the popular stuff... mainstream stuff.... (c)rap is taken over and music went downstream since then. Musicians can't even get gigs in my hometown anymore because of it and because of dj's. I am a musician so I know how hard the struggle is. I moved because I fell in love with a girl from Cyprus to Turkey so I don't deal with that in New Jersey anymore but it's the same here too. That shit music is everywhere! The whole world runs on (c)rap music and Miley Cyrus pop . It's sad really.... the elite have totally made people who listen to that shit brain dead. Music with no sense, sexually immoral all the time and sucky music with no talent . Anyways, thanks for readin my long ass post haha Take it easy and rock on ! - Dal

Saw these guys twice in the 80s, and many years later in 209. I was saddened to see Mike Mesaros replaced on bass, and how large Pat had gotten.
@Nico_Tena8 жыл бұрын
Saw them a few times early on and even in the 90's. I think Mesaros just moved on and the rest of them did not want to stop so they found another base player. Pat put on so much weight mainly due to having to take the steroid Prednisone for a hives condition that he has which almost killed him before he started the medication.
