This video gives another point of view on Andy's professionality: he was not one of those bassist who can only use the pick, but he decided to use it because it gave his basslines that crispy sound only he could make. Not to mention that he initially started to study on the guitar, and even taught Johnny some chords, and post Smiths he helped Morrissey with his basslines and even some songwriting ( The Girl least likely to). He was the most polyhedral member of the band, you can't change my mind.

I’d say Johnny Marr is more than just 50%. I’ve seen him sing Smiths “covers” better than his lordship while playing as sublimely and flawlessly as ever. No gladioli up his arse either!

@@angrypossumsx1259 but Johnny didn't write the lyrics, though. to be fair, even if you hate Morrissey, you have to admit that the relatability and poetry of his words were what caused so many fans to catapult themselves at the stage the way they did, feeling thoroughly seen and understood. now, since we know the Smiths' melodies were written before their lyrics, you could certainly argue that the intricacy of Johnny's instrumentals inspired Morrissey to write as eloquently as he did - which is probably why his Smiths lyrics are more interesting than his solo stuff
