It's ridiculous that the confused sentiments of being young, insecure, indecisive, and scared can be crystalized in under two minutes by the telling of a story from both sides, that it can cause you to relive it all and at the same time show you how foolish it all was, how much simpler it could've been.

Best guitarist ever, atleast his songs with the Smiths. The layering, the shimmering notes, the chord progressions are out of this world, I have yet to hear anything like it.
@oliveravasic4 жыл бұрын
I fully agree. I've been playing guitar for over 7 years and have progressed a lot through countless hours sitting in my room, practicing classical pieces till my fingers bleed. Every artist i listen to i think that i could have made something like that up. But with johnny mart, his riffs are literally more layered than a novel. The chord progression is so unorthodox at times that it just sounds so out of place which makes it all the more sensational. Cheers from a Smiths fan!

I watched a video on 'music on the brain', it's all about mood centres in the brain and shows how music uplifts you or can make you cry. Soft sounds like mandolins are soothing, some sounds are upbeat and make you feel positive, them there's sad sounds of piano or orchestra that can do both; all linked to memory and emotions. I've worked with patients with dementia and there is strong evidence music is such good therapy. Music is key and essential to life, Morrissey demonstrates this perfectly 🥰

@RikiNewtonMusicianSongwriter5 жыл бұрын
Seems very few ppl are ‘with you on this’ - mostly down to the ‘Style of 80’s music’ being tacky, ridiculous and generally dreadful . The Smiths were one of the very few - who didn’t dress up in bloody horrible clothes. Even U2 looked unbelievably uncool in some of the garb they festooned themselves in. Style wise the 80’s was a decade to forget !! Plus it brings back horrific images of Thatcher decimating whole communities by way of the miners - steel industry etc etc. A terrifying time. The threat of nuclear annihilation almost came true with Chernobyl - not good !! Although I personally had a fantastic time - being in a rock group with my mates and living the hedonistic life of a musician was fun in the extreme - the polar opposite of what was happening in the real world. I was lucky to have lived in a beautiful paradox - living exactly how I wanted to live. Basically you can’t beat that way of life. I’m still living the same way today - just a bit slower for preservation... Anyway this was only meant to be short - yet I’ve written a book instead ! Lol. Cheers n Peace !! Rx
@Wilantonjakov5 жыл бұрын
@@RikiNewtonMusicianSongwriter Japan (David Sylvian) dressed up in those clothes. But they were an artistically creative band. Even Morrissey said he liked them. Punk bands also dressed oddly (New York Dolls, Television, The Birthday Party), so it goes to show it's not about how people dress, really (although A-ha and ABBA took that to new lows). However, the abysmal band Queen existed and became prolific in that generation, which in itself makes me want to drop my overall re-collective standard of the 80s down from anything above/on par. Queen destroyed the genuinity in music, in my opinion.
