Lyrics:
I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now
I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now
In my life
Why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die?
Two lovers entwined pass me by
And heaven knows I'm miserable now
I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now
In my life
Oh, why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die?
What she asked of me at the end of the day
Caligula would have blushed
"Oh, you've been in the house too long" she said
And I naturally fled
In my life
Why do I smile
At people who I'd much rather kick in the eye?
I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now
"Oh, you've been in the house too long" she said
And I naturally fled
In my life
Oh, why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die?

i swear no level of credit that andy rourke gets is enough, he’s the secret ingredient in their recipe with the knowledge that you could just fall back on johnny marr layering up several guitar parts it would be so easy to just not make any effort on harmonising and instead just play the most basic bass notes, but on almost every notable Smiths track he plays some sort of counter melody, underpinning the groove but also picking out an additional melody which can often be one of three or four if you count both guitar parts + morrisey’s vocal

RIP Andy Rourke one of the smoothest and funkiest bass players of all time, you can hear him carrying that back beat also Johnny Marr and Morrissey are a songwriting pair for the ages, My music producer friend and I were listening to Morrissey's solo work earlier and it just isn't the same without The Smiths line up, I wanna throw him love while I'm here as we've been through a lot together, try searching Lonely Gimmick - Roll Me Over, it gives me Smiths jangle pop vibes and I'm honestly so impressed with the tune as he did it all himself on his laptop

The Smiths came along and made a mockery of image before music, new romantics. From 15, when they first came out, They saved music, and made my late teens so bearable. They were genius. Thank you Smiths. Morrissey, who started out with just flowers, ended up with a forest on his back, by later appearances on Top of the Pops. Absolutely hilarious and Genius.

I was lucky enough to see The Smiths Meat is Murder tour in the Fulton Theater in Pittsburgh, PA in early August 1985 (I was a junior in high school) Billie Bragg opened for them. It was one of the best concerts of my life after several Springsteen concerts (which are unmatched in my opinion...totally different level). Mom was great but I was totally focused on Marr....he was amazing on another level. Bragg was good as well. I would do almost anything to go back to that time...maybe just a little earlier so I could have had the chance to see Ian Curtis and Joy Division. Anyway, I framed the Smiths concert T under glass and it still hangs in my bedroom to this day.

@@joselaw6669 really? I doubt that, it's what I do, everyday. Reading for entertainment is certainly not boring, it's an escape into another world, a life-threatening, once in a lifetime, magical adventure that can be visited time and again, all the while sitting in your house or lying on your couch or played in your head. I find reading for work boring, as there is never a say in what you read. I don't care what anyone says but for millions of people in this world, introverts or extroverts, readers or not, I think you'll find that statement is incorrect.

[Verse 1] I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour But heaven knows I'm miserable now I was looking for a job and then I found a job And heaven knows I'm miserable now [Refrain 1] In my life, why do I give valuable time To people who don't care if I live or die? [Verse 2] Two lovers entwined pass me by And heaven knows I'm miserable now I was looking for a job and then I found a job And heaven knows I'm miserable now [Refrain 1] In my life, oh, why do I give valuable time To people who don't care if I live or die? [Verse 3] What she asked of me at the end of the day Caligula would have blushed "Oh, you've been in the house too long", she said And I naturally fled
