Don't really mind Marr re-inventing many off his Smiths-era riffs in more recent videos using new settings etc. But I'm always amused how good and unique these original live versions with lesser quality and fewer FX sound like. They somehow make the sound more natural and relatable for me. There's sorta that "punk" thing going on behind the beautiful music I like a lot. But of course Johnny's a professional guitarist who's always into improving and finding new sounds. That what keeps him relevant even today.

@craigcoughlin18342 жыл бұрын
@@Chris-jq1qb not bad per say but it's very a very bright, hard, metallic sound from what I've heard. I assume it's mainly due to the unique pickups. I think Marr makes it work because he has such a deft strumming and picking style. He can play softly and dig in when needed. Others with an aggressive style sound dreadful in my opinion.

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour But heaven knows I'm miserable now I was looking for a job, and then I found a job And heaven knows I'm miserable now In my life Why do I give valuable time To people who don't care if I live or die? Two lovers entwined pass me by And heaven knows I'm miserable now I was looking for a job, and then I found a job And heaven knows I'm miserable now In my life Oh, why do I give valuable time To people who don't care if I live or die? What she asked of me at the end of the day Caligula would have blushed "Oh, you've been in the house too long" she said And I naturally fled In my life Why do I smile At people who I'd much rather kick in the eye? I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour But heaven knows I'm miserable now "Oh, you've been in the house too long" she said And I naturally fled In my life Oh, why do I give valuable time To people who don't care if I live or die?

This song is about the frustrating experience of being in an unhappy and disconnected relationship. The singer reflects on his past life when he was "happy in the haze of a drunken hour", and then contrasts it with his miserable present reality. The song criticizes the other person in the relationship, acknowledging that she does not care whether the singer "lives or dies", and lamenting her emotional detachment. The singer questions why he even bothers putting effort into the relationship, when it's clear that the other person doesn't care. In the end, he recognizes the need to "naturally" escape this dead-end relationship.
