It took one MARR playing with the guitar alone....meditating and listening...and then Morrissey went in the studio with a handfull of lyrics that he wrote alone...meditating..thinking listening and it was mixed...between those 2 in combination no one else could have even hoped or thought to do it but them,thats what makes it a complete treasure.

Of course, Moz and Marr are amazing, but as a drummer, I wanted to mention how tight and tasty Mike’s drumming is here. He creates such a nice groove and embellishes in just the right spots with his fills. I love how he turns the beat around for just a second at 4:36. Amazing performances all the way around.
@cbennett1966315 жыл бұрын
Check out the Laguna Hills SBD...I like Mike's playing even more on that version
@pinkitypink62464 жыл бұрын
Yeah, for sure. Joyce was certainly the drummer for the band, the heart beat indeed. A tight drummer indeed... I don't like the way either of the songwriters have treated him since, nor how Andy rourke has been treated... Especially (because) he is old marr friend from when he was maher. In both morrissey and Johnny marr autobiography, they both make remarks about the standard of Mike's drumming, as good as calling it sub standard, morrissey makes several unkind exposures regarding private life on tour, to belittle him, and gives a slating from early on, smiths days regarding money. Mike Joyce was most certainly right to go for his share. He earnt it so why not? A band is a band. They all play together, one bit cannot function nor sound so good without the other... And then there's marrs treatment of rourke in the court proceedings, morrissey makes an astute remark that Johnny was busy being everybody's friend but no one's.... Ie, slippery and sliding, taking good care of himself... Of course he should, but it's pretence of nice. He's a great guitarist, I love the music, the expression and there's a lot of the person. Person's. Personality, way about himself that I like from whst I pick up, but there's that element that I don't like, there's a shallowness to his soul I think. There is. There's an element of shallow and fake about him, but that's in the public eye stuff. I'd say he's good enough if you know him proper but he will use people. That's an analysis... Fair play actually, some are there to be used and that's their choice. Now onto the route thing, see, that wasn't nice at all, the way that marr persuaded rourke to take the out of court settlement of pw nies on account of being an old friend, and of course knowing rourke medical condition. Rourke is an excellent musician and I sometimes feel marr was a bit jealous if this hence put him on the bass, just a feeling I have. Bass isn't loud enough on smiths stuff. Brilliance. Morrissey, well, morrissey just morrissey, he's never had friends abs never will so he will tell you. There's somethibg makes me a bit uncomfortable regarding himself and his sexuslity , hand thst Rick's thd cradle and reel around the fountain... The music so beautiful but the lyrics are very very ambiguous.

Wow great observation! Since I saw your comment I've been rewinding back to 4:36 again and again because I love that!
@pinkitypink62464 жыл бұрын
@@MrRolled1 if youve read either marr or morrissey books, youll see them both call into question joyces drumming skills, its jealousy, marr put rourke on the bass when they were kids and i find the bass turned too low in the mix on smiths stuff. they were a four piece and its so unfair that in music biz writing credits dont go to drum and bass when theyre doing their share of creating the finished product

IMHO this is THE BEST version of HSIN. This is The Smiths at their very best. When a lot of guitar players at that time were shredding and showing off Johnny Marr was playing sublime chord patterns and soloing like nobody else. I was totally into his playing style back then and I still am. Less is definitely more with almost no string bends and no stock blues riffs. Morrisey's lyrics are perfect too, and this video is one of those rare moments when all the stars align and a band like The Smiths take to the stage and blow your mind. Thanks for posting it.
