I think the B&W is a nod to Seven Samurai as well. Zack has said JL is his Seven Samurai.

Ok! So that was a real cool breakdown. I love how you brought up the usage of black and how it created a sense of mystery and mood. Espicially the scene with Desaad. The black really keeps his mean little head hidden which creates more sinister of a tone for him.

As far as the additional footage. I really appreciate how you brought up the shot of the Batmobile being attacked by the Parademons. It took me back to your video of the photography of BVS. Your excitement when the Batmobile was introduced with the frontal shot of it and the lights turning on was so contagious! Because it really was like meeting another character. So when we see this scene of the Batmobile and the Parademons its like the Batmobile is gonna face another challenger.

What can I say? Chicks dig the car! I'm excited that there is more Batmobile and Flying Fox action that we haven't seen yet. The Batmobile could be viewed as its own character because it takes on a life of its own and is an essential to the history and mythology of Batman.

The Black and White style recently from memory was used for Mad Max and Logan, two fantastic films. Especially Logan is based around westerns. Like a episode of Gunsmoke or The Rifleman.

Westerns are a good example of how black and white can be used to great effect.

9:34 I recently re-watched the "Heroes" trailer for the theatrical version of Justice League and I was shocked by how much they cranked up the saturation of Superman's hologram that his cape appeared pink. 🤮

Colorist actually refuse to do saturation but joss whedon want it, they had a debate and second DoP Said let's do whedon want because he knew it will be bad film anyway and it's indeed bad movie.

Your points are well taken, but HBO Max is going to need to get it's 4k HDR act together to make the contrast work. And the priestesses... Maybe? But, their god is literally standing right there, so maybe they're his acolytes?

There was some talk (not sure if serious, though) of it maybe being released in black and white IMAX. IMO, if it wasn't shot with the intention to be released like that, it's not worth seeing in that format. Snyder's Justice League wasn't intended to only be seen on a streaming platform, but that's where we are. I'm not sure what the point of the priestess role, but I'm interested in finding out!

With the film not being shot for black and white some of the images don't really look that great. I appreciate your insight about Black and white photography.

I agree. You really need to go into it with the idea that you're going to shoot for Black and White instead of doing it in post. It's possible to do, but it won't look as good. I think some of the images could work in B&W, but some don't. I'm still learning about that genre of photography, myself.
