For anyone with severe social anxiety I can only recommend meditation as an antidote. Mindfulness meditation is so effective in combatting it, its really hard to believe sometimes. It equips you with the necessary tools to overcome anxiety whenever it arises, wherever you are.

The advise I get for this is, "Be more confidant" -- Which is so useless it's on the level of "If you're homeless, buy a house." It's like saying, "Just don't be socially anxious."

"So, you've all had that moment where you're at a bar, you're maybe dancing a little bit, moving around." No, actually. Not sure when social anxiety meets/crosses over with general introversion. A therapist I saw many years ago recommended Elaine Aron's "The Highly Sensitive Person," which I found useful for my particular "social anxiety." None of the things in the video ring true. I don't worry about people judging, etc., rather I find interacting with people at, say, a bar, to be literally physically exhausting (whereas extroverts I know report the same interactions as being energizing/exhilarating). Aron's book wasn't life changing or anything, but it was a helpful perspective.

Fuck society and do what you want to do! We’re all being judged every single day in one form or another! Rise up, be proud of who you are and do what you want because they’ll judge you anyway! People shouldn’t have any power over any of us, Ever! Stop comparing and be the best you!

You’re asking for more Anxiety when you classify them as Demons. Thats a double edged sword type of mentality. Its simple really. We fear things we don’t understand or aren’t used to. Solution? Identify your insecurities and forgive yourself for them, and accept them with open arms. Then, slowly do those things that make you uncomfortable.

Idk if I agree with social anxiety being defined as the fear of negative judgement. I feel like sometimes people don't want to be judged period, even if it is positive. I don't know how many times I've shied away from social interaction even knowing my contribution would be welcome and appreciated.
@wolfferoni4 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. Do you not want people to pay any kind of attention to you at all? If so, why is that? Some people don't like interacting with others and just hate people and all social interaction in general but they're not socially anxious. If you have social anxiety, you're anxious about something. What are you anxious about? What goes through your mind when you need to do things that make you anxious? Sometimes it can go so deep that you don't want any attention, even positive attention, because you don't like yourself or don't really believe you're worthy of attention and worry that although people say positive things, they aren't telling the truth or they'll find something they don't like about you eventually etc. It's still a fear of negative judgement from others though.
@abishaicampbell21874 жыл бұрын
Maybe because being judged positively forces you to live up to a positive expectation and thus you fear the failure of living up to that expectation.

Me too. IDK why. But consider that the reason the west has so many problems is because its culture, religions & gov is B.S. If people are enjoying your company or contribution, your probably perpetuating that. Imagine the extreme to get the implications, Nazi germany. Theres lots of old photos of nazis workers having a good time and laughing w/each other. If you said what people really need to feel, or how you feel, it wouldn't go well. But some people learn to say anything in a way that is well recieved. They are usually forced to become comedians.

Two actual criteria (the Definition) of social anxiety disorder from the DSM-5: -Persistent, intense fear or anxiety about specific social situations because you believe you may be judged, embarrassed or humiliated. -Avoidance of anxiety-producing social situations or enduring them with intense fear or anxiety. I agree that I don’t think the anxiety always has that obvious of a source such as negative judgement. I have anxiety with anyone I talk to. I guess according to their explanation it’s because I am insecure around everyone I ever talk to? Idk, I don’t feel like that is true.

You got it. Appraisal of others, good or bad, is fraught with emotional reaction. They examine you, make comments, you examine yourself and see a spotlight making you feel interrogated. The inner "what are they REALLY saying" goes nuts.

Now is not the time to defeat social anxiety. It's time to embrase it. We are at the moment those who are saving the lives of millions by just doing what we've always done. Staying away from social gatherings with unknown people. Survival of the fittest. You're welcome, extroverts.

The best way to deal with social anxiety is to believe everything will turn out good. Even if you screw up, and to not focus on the situation. To simply just flow and not over think everything. To do something to distract from that which makes you worry.

To overcome social anxiety, just understand that everyone else has flaws and inadequacies too, so don't care what they say or think unless it's directly effecting you. And if it does directly effect you, use their flaws against them because they're probably way worse than yours. Otherwise, show general respect and carry on.

Ignore this. The answer you seek is within you. It's a mental tick. Everyone is different and your solution is unique. Test your own technique for removing it within a second when you recognize it. Remember, it's a mental tick. That means it has to be addressed internally. You can accomplish this within a day.

Here are eight simple and effective ways to battle anxiety without medication: Shout it out. Talking to a trusted friend is one way to cope with anxiety. Get moving. Break up with caffeine. Give yourself a bedtime. Feel OK saying no. Don't skip meals. Give yourself an exit strategy. Live in the moment.

This only works if you make just 1 more decision: namely, is what I want to do damaging to anyone? Humans fall prey to all kinds of damaging behaviors. Those kinds of actions will not be responded to desirability by yourself & peers further increasing stress & anxiety.

I don't get the very basics of the views of these guys. So, one of the experts tells us that when we are not under stressful conditions, we behave like who we are without any shame. In contrast, if we feel threatened by an unknown judgement, we correct our behavior to fit in the frame. But what makes fear or anxiety "unnatural" or "unauthentic"? And how is happy, unrestricted self-expression is a more natural thing than anxiety? It is clear that things are actually contrary to those assumptions: if a person experiences a strike of social anxiety in public, it is a natural occurrence, because, literally, it came to that person naturally, without them planning that happening. On the contrary, if the person manages to deal with this anxiety, somehow tricking their brain into thinking that everything is okay, it is truly unnatural, because that person has consciously changed what came from the person's uncontrolled territory. Moreover, I think the way a person reacts to stressful conditions, be it with or without anxiety, is actually a part of their authenticity, given to them by Nature, and it should be properly respected. Dismissing your fears and anxieties because you want to seem to yourself more brave than you actually are is a wrong thing, and it may even be dangerous. We are brave at self-expression, but this is based only on assumption that other people respect the order of our society. But this is not always the case even in developed countries! Of course I don't want to say that we should live in constant fear, only that we should treat what happens in our mind more carefully and analytically. Perhaps, if your lizard brain warns you, it might have figured out something that your consciousness haven't!
