My first time watching The Social Network (2010). This one was filled with tension, drama and intrigue as the intelligent and the wealthy fight for ownership of one of the biggest IPs in history. I hope you enjoyed my The Social Network movie reaction & commentary

If you pay even more attention, you'll notice that the only times Mark ever comes to Eduardo for anything is when it's about the company or when he needs his signature. THAT is their "friendship" in a nutshell.
@kenshinhimura8133

Its a fictional movie. Mark had to go to Eduardo for everything because he didn't have sole control. Eduardo didn't do/failed at what he was supposed to do. He was rightfully fired. Saverin ended up with a huge check even thought he didn't deserve it.

A lot of people tell me that they don't like a particular movie or TV show because none of the characters are "likable". I have always maintained that the characters don't have to be likable as long as they and the story are interesting. This movie is a perfect example of a story that is very interesting where absolutely no one is likable. The movie does seem most sympathetic to Eduardo--I haven't read the book that it's based on--but outside of Andrew Garfield's charisma, he isn't much less arrogant and conceited than everyone else. When Facebook came on the scene I thought the entire concept was dumb, and everything it's done since then makes me glad I avoided it personally, although the damage it's done to the world is unavoidable. If Meta's "metaverse" plans actually come to fruition I may have to go off-grid if I'm still alive.

Easily one of the biggest mistakes in Oscars history was David Fincher not winning Best Director and Social Network not winning Best Picture! The King's Speech was a good movie, but entirely forgettable. The Social Network is a masterpiece that will be remembered forever! It's up there with Saving Private Ryan losing to Shakespeare In Love and Citizen Kane losing to How Green Was My Valley! Just a complete masterpiece!!!!!! Love your reaction, keep up the amazing work!!!!

The actress in the opening scene is Rooney Mara, the sister of Kate Mara. David Fincher loved working with her so much in this one scene that he gave her the female lead role of his next film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

If this was another movie it might have slow, draggy and boring. But Fincher had a way of getting us intrigued and get sucked into the storyline. Coupled with Aaron Sorkin's sharp and witty script this made for an exciting movie. And along with the performances, this movie is engaging as heck. The sad thing is this movie should've won more Oscars over The King's Speech.

When this movie was conceived and released FB was very much riding high as the coolest company on planet earth - the “disrupters” that turned the comms and tech industries upside down …. So i think they almost saw Mark’s portrayal as kind of edgy and cool. If they had any idea what his reputation would be 10 years later I think they’d have been MUCH more controlling over how he’s portrayed

This is my LEAST favorite Aaron Sorkin-based movie. I think the total kick-him-to-the-curb and then shit on him that one best friend did to his 'best friend's was reprehensible in the extreme. Much prefer A Few Good Men, The West Wing, The Newsroom, and other Sorkin films.

Aaron Sorkin is the most BRILLIANT writer. He could write a screenplay about selling auto insurance and make it RIVETING. Almost no need to mention that Fincher's direction is magnificent as always, and I think the masterful score has to be mentioned. Oh, and top performances from all the actors... Is there anything about this movie that isn't fantastic? Other than the fact that it leaves me depressed at the idea of people so manipulative, entitled and petty existing at the forefront of so much of the modern world.

Great seeing you react to this. An extraordinary and fascinating drama. A character study of a horrible person, LOL. Based on your reaction to this movie, I would also highly recommend the movie “Jobs” from 2013 It’s a biopic about Apple founder Steve Jobs. I’ll say straight out, I’m not a hard core Apple guy or someone who holds Steve Jobs in particular reverence. But this movie and this story is incredible! Steve Jobs and his story are fascinating. Definitely worth seeing.

LOVE this film. It takes a story that could easily have made for a dry, boring film and manages to capture everything exciting and dramatic about it. And yeah, it's far from 100% accurate (in reality the character of Erica never even existed, and in 2003 Mark was already dating the woman that would eventually become his wife), but it's accurate enough. :)

Most of the stuff happening outside of the legal setting is made up and heavily fictionalized, especially the romantic stuff. But inside... a hefty portion of the dialogue was copied directly from the deposition transcripts. Heightened a bit, of course, by Sorkin. And also they combined some of the cases to put multiple characters in the same room at the same time which is not what happened. But overall the deposition scenes are probably some of the most realistic legal drama scenes in any film.

Its a great movie. Though it is still fictional in a way. Saverin was screwed over because he failed/didn't do what he was supposed to do, ran ads on facebook for his own separate company which could have been a potential competitor to some of facebook's platform. Its not just Mark, everyone was involved with facebook including Peter Thiel wanted to fire Saverin. This movie is based on a book called Accidental Billionaires which was written by a writer approached by Saverin to smear Mark. Saverin was basically a bad egg which had to be replaced. Although, Mark truly was narcissistic from what I have heard. Mark and Saverin weren't really great friends or something too.

The treatment of women by most of the male characters in this movie is appalling (and, no, I'm not saying that the movie treats women badly). This movie is really not about a single social network, but about the old-school social network of the elites vs. a new disruptive social network made possible by technology. The Winklevoss twins represent the old school. They think they're entitled to what Zuckerberg created not just because they had the initial idea, but because of who they are. They did no work to create Facebook. I have a certain amount of sympathy for them, and Zuckerberg could have at least given them a little bit of credit, but basically, they wanted to get richer than they already were just from having the bare bones of an idea. It's like someone in the 1930s telling Picasso that someone should make a painting about the horrors of war, and then suing him for Guernica. It's important to remember that this movie is fiction. Mark Zuckerberg is a deeply flawed person, in my opinion, but not in the ways depicted in the movie. He's still with the same girlfriend he had in college. He's not a hyper-aggressive, obnoxious jerk, at least not in public. What he is, is a cold-eyed manipulator who can lie to people without breaking a sweat. How many times have we seen him testify to congress after Facebook has violated the public trust. Every time, he gives them his bland, dewy-eyed stare and promises not to do it again, and every time he (or his company) keeps doing whatever they've been caught doing.

Zuckerberg's behavior is sociopathic. He's almost solipsistic in the way he acts as though everyone else are props on a set that he occupies by himself. It's similar for the rest of the Ivy League crowd, just less obvious. It's the kind of weirdness that comes from a culture of narcissism, and extreme ambition. But that's what is effective, and rewarded in an economy which is almost entirely a ponzi scheme. Huge quantities of marketing, branding, and PR, but with very little actual substance. Plus there's the fact that social media has turned about 35% of this country into gibbering lunatics. A great contribution to society.
