There are some beautiful things here but tragically Keller tries to rewrite Genesis 1 as being some theoretical song. It’s as literal as anything you can find in scripture.

@@firstaccount888The Bible is all TRUE. It tells us the truth about God and his creation…when Christians are divided over this, we are missing the point of God’s word. The big WHY and most importantly, the WHO. I’m grateful for a sermon that pauses to consider the Bible as literature written for us, inspired by God. It makes sense to me, especially if I’m truly looking at it through the lense of redemption. I believe we can and should all find the essentials of the various views of Creation within orthodox Christianity, agree on those, and remain united in love. I love the way Tim presents his view without judgement of other views, remaining focused on the glory of God.

Genesis is undermined by many people despite its crucial importance. Many people don't understand how Jesus affirmed and quoted from Genesis many times which makes it necessary to fully understand the meaning and scope of His message. Jesus clearly affirmed His divinity as God and Genesis makes much about the very nature of God very clear! There is a tendency and trend of many Christians to overwhelmingly undermine the Old Testament which is a huge mistake. The Old Testament speaks about the very nature of creation and such is key to understanding the context Jesus assumed and worked from along with the basis for the New Testament. The controversy surrounding the creation v. evolution debate seem to make people avoid Genesis largely. Those who believe it contradicts the creation account aren't drawn to it but many creationists don't read it much either. Creation and its meaning are made clear in how God is the beginning and the end! It speaks of His purpose behind creating the world and what the original intent was.

Everything in nature is already right with God. Humans are the only ones that fell in the garden. So the rest of the nature don't need salvation to go to heaven. They will go to heaven when they die. That means all animals and our pets will go to heaven when they die. We will see our beloved pets in heaven. Yes

Genesis 1 has been examined over and over in terms of whether or not it is poetry or prose. Some have even designed computer programs to aid in its examination. And over and over scholars have come to the same conclusion that it is narrative prose. Keller is assuming here rather than taking a close look at the style of writing.

I consider your remark as assumption too coz without any references to substantiate what you say, it's as plausible was Keller's.

How does Keller know that the creation account is a "poem"? He is therefore calling Jesus a liar.

The Bible says, or implies, or allows, at least some things that are worthwhile. I think we all can agree that this is the case. But, contrary to the way in which many Christians think of it, it is not a Complete Idiots Guide to Itself. So I think a strong argument can be made that it is not intended to be foolproof against anyone, either against those who would find fault with it, or, against those who, while disputing its meaning among themselves, think it is essentially Infallible. I am one of this latter set of people: those who affirm that the Bible is Infallible. On the side of the Worthwhile, I present the following. 1. The general, (or 'masculine') cosmos and the special (or 'feminine') Earth (Genesis 1:1). 2. The Earth, as its own general subject, implying that which we all intuit is most valuable about the Earth unto itself in all the cosmos: its abiding maximal abundance of open liquid water (Genesis 1:2). 3. all that water and its special relation to the Sun's light, hence the water cycle (vs. 3-10); 4. The water cycle and its special beneficiary and member, biology (vs. 11-12); 5. biology and its special category, animal biology (plant/animal/mineral = animal) (vs. 20-22, 24-25); 6. Animal biology and its special category, human (vs. 26-28); 7. The general man and the special woman (Genesis 2:21-23). I do not think it is mere happenstance that there are exactly five things that Genesis 1 reports that God names, and that those five things seem to be the five basic non-biological factors of Earth's water cycle: Names 1 and 2: binary cyclically distributed thermal regulation ( v. 4-5 ); Name 3: radiologically mediative atmosphere ( vs. 6-8 ); Names 4 and 5: binary thermal surface distribution system ( vs. 9-10 )

So sad. I have great respect for so much of Tim Keller’s ministry but in this case he just gives up on the actual reading of the Word. Jesus quotes directly from both Genesis 1 (vs 27) and Genesis 2 (24) and speaks of them as literal and historical fact. It is tragic that great pastors have such a huge blind spot here and refuse to simply teach Genesis 1 and 2 as written. The irony is they are falling prey to the same lies Satan told Eve… “did God really say”?!

Total nonsense. When Miriam sang her song it said in the scriptures it was a song. When Deborah sang her song it said in the scriptures it was a song. This is man pleasing foolishness.
@catmein6 жыл бұрын
Pammy Christine yes I agree! but sorry, don't see the relevance. The psalms say they are songs or poems. Again, trying to say that Genesis 1 is a song is just a way to please men. So they can agree with scientists and get on with the world. But the scientists are wrong. And the scriptures are right. It might look like foolishness to the world now but God uses the foolishness of this world to shame the wise.
@catmein6 жыл бұрын
Pammy Christine you haven't watched the video, if he just wanted to make a song about creation I wouldn't have an issue with that I'd probably like it. He wants to change the meaning of Gods Word to suit his own ideas. Watch the video then comment.
@catmein6 жыл бұрын
Pammy Christine just to add, of course you can sing any scripture you want. In fact the more the better, But the author of Genesis did not intend it to be so,as it's a literal historic account of creation.
@catmein6 жыл бұрын
Pammy Christine I'm actually not sure if you are being serious or not because what he was saying was so obvious it's hard to believe that you didn't hear it? he was saying that Genesis CH1 is a song therefore not to be taken literally. Otherwise it would contradict chapter 2 - according to Keller. But that is not the case nor is it true. God made the world in 6 24hr days not billions of years and not by evolution. Keller is clearly trying to insert the ideas of the world into the text. It's a deception which can lead people to believe what scientists say over what Gods word says. And the scientists are clueless. They don't even know how many hairs are on their own head yet they say they know how old the world is? For a Christian To believe the scientists in this matter over God is astounding. He sounded like the serpent in the garden - 'God didn't really say that did he.....' No it was just a song... Totally wrong and deceptive.
