Sonic X for like the first two seasons is just a straight up adaptation of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. However, it feels like that one Pinky and the Brain joke of "It's Pinky and the Brain (AND LARRY)" when Chris Thorndyke shows up in it. And then Season 3 says 'what if we did a space adventure for no good reason!'

There are many good one offs in sonic x. Like the time sonic and the formula 1 racer have a giant race, or when sonic gets a microchip in his ear and physically cant stop running so they put him in a hamster wheel or vector trying to get with vanilla the rabbit.

In the Japanese version of Sonic X Sonic constantly swears in English Joseph Joestar style and it greatly improves the experience honestly.

Season 3 of Sonic X gets somewhat of a pass because that's where DARK Super Sonic comes from Tails gets a decent amount of attention as a character (even more so in the Japanese version, which is crazy to me that apparently they made that LATER than the overseas version?)

Oh you would love Chris' teacher. He's a goverment agent who also tries to fuck Chris' mom. There are alot of good side characters in Sonic X, aside from Chirs. Like Prezidents assistant who get's fired and is living on the streets, and you see him once in a while living in the sewers. Or Rouge and Topaz being the most iconic lesbian couple ever, and even if you were a kid and didn't know what, that meant you just knew by looking at those two. I love how prezident is soo pathetic in one of the episodes people throw him out of the white house and elect Eggman, because at least he fixes issues in the world. And season 3 has alot of good things, especially in regards to developing Tails as a character. Last episode is him having to shoot his plant girlfriend, while Eggman is talking to him saying "Tails, you gotta do it" and then in tears he shots her, and then later Sonic is like I tried to look for her, but all I found was this seed left. Sonic X is pretty good if you watch it in sub. Japanese soundtrack is also incredibly good. ED2 is really too. Also Dan, IMDB lied. The best episode agreed by everyone who watched this show is Ep14 of S1. If you can go through another episode I recommend checking out that, but plz watch it in subs. They cut out really good joke in dub.

For Sonic X's weird... censorship? It's deeply unusual. Sure, they cut around guns, and violence, here and there. That's expected. Awful sound mixing, replacing the excellent Japanese OST, bad dialogue. All anticipated. That stuff is the usual. It's every kids anime from the 90s and 00s. Nothing unusual. What's not is that every single sign and book, anything with TEXT, gets edited out to be blank. It's highly bizarre. Something you might not notice if you don't know it's there, but once you do you can't UNSEE it.

Sonic X is one of my Fox Box-related Core memories along with the Kirby anime and Yu-Gi-Oh so every time you brought up something from the show you didn't watch made my neurons audibly spark like the Sonic Battle Arc that was basically an excuse for a tournament arc and Tails' Plant GF. Also you'll be glad to know Sonic does get a rivalry with one of the Speed Police who is also Chris' uncle.

The is an episode of Sonic X where the Char cop and Sonic go on a race against each other and it's pretty fun IIRC because the cop keeps cheating and Eggman is literally watching taking notes of how this dude is messing with Sonic.

10:20. That comment about Rotor being the base for what Tails would become actually had major ramifications for Archie. Once Tails became "the smart guy", the writers struggled to find ways to make him stand out and be relevant. Penders...made him a gay scientist in M25YL and also Nicole's inventor in another timeline, Bollers had him just leave for 15 issues, and Ian Flynn tried making him a bureaucrat before just throwing in the towel and making him Iron Man (or well, Iron Rotor)

As someone under thirty I never watched SatAM but I constantly saw people online hailing it as the ultimate Sonic show. So seeing it rank worse than Sonic X is pretty hilarious to me.

Sonic X is one of those wierd shows where I have fond memories of it but also don't remember it being especially good. I think it was just because my brother and I found the whole thing available for streaming on the 4kids website way back in the day. Also for a long time I thought the Internet just absolutely *hated* the shit out of the kid character to the point of making up wild crimes he had committed. Like yeah he's annoying but good god. I saw quite a lot of Sonic X since it was on 4Kids alongside shows like Yugioh, The 2004 TMNT show and Pokemon. I remember the show being mostly fine, but I found Chris Thorndyke pretty boring. So color my shock when I see years later that folks despised this kid on the internet 😅. *Also I learned that 4Kids couldnt get the rights to "Live and Learn," during the Biolizard fight and remembered how shitty 4Kids music was for some of the anime they dubbed. (Pokemon and Yugioh being the only exceptions sometimes)*

I remember Sonic had big Goku energy of just being a non entity in some of the plots (though I remember it being more him being lazy or fucking around instead of being out of commission)

as someone that grew up with sonic x and the adventure games as my first introduction to sonic as a franchise i was always a bit averse to the more western iterations of sonic. the satam/early archie characters not being cohesive in design to established character designs bugged the hell out of me.
