If I remember correctly I know tails was talking about how he encountered another version of himself before sonic broke him free. Maybe the new stories followed the three after being transported but before being rescued? Though I can’t imagine that much time passed from when they were transported to when sonic actually broke them free, but time could potentially flow differently in cyberspace. Who knows . Honestly the way I see it is that they are probably in both. The story can be from Tails, Knuckles and Amy's prospective with the kocos looking like in the visions. That way both cyber space and Open zone can work. Also the fact that it's gonna take them till probably the end of 2023 means it's bigger then just a reskin, or even just cyberspace. The reason is because of the Sonic birthday update meaning update 2 is on June, so in my opinion this is the route they're going in.

I honestly think it'd be _more_ work to make them playable in Cyberspace, than in the open world. On the islands, you can just drop them in and say "aight, let them figure it out". As long as each character can reach crucial areas of the islands (certain springs and rails), and have a "homing attack" of some kind, it should be fine. But think about Cyberspace, where they probably gimped Sonic's physics so people couldn't finish the levels too quickly. Imagine tweaking the physics for 3 _more_ characters, _and_ redesigning the stages (at least shuffling the platform/spring/rail placement) so the new characters don't break them even more. Even the 'lazy' way to implement them would take a decent bit of work. So at that point, why not make them playable on the islands too? ... I really hope I'm thinking the way they are lol

Yeah I definitely understand that it’s a lot of work, the fact they’re doing this is cool for sure. But as a customer lets say, I’d rather play as these new characters in the (to me) the most fun parts of the game and not the part that is constantly said the worst part. So while yes I understand it’s not easy, I should be able to expect these things that are stated in this advertisement I suppose. Thank you!

wouldn't tails, amy, and knuckles being in their cyber forms mean the opposite of them only being playable in cyberspace? remember that every single character that was trapped in cyberspace appeared in their cyber form in the open world, but eggman, who was also trapped in cyberspace, appeared in his regular form while in cyberspace.

It's because they were trapped "between dimensions". They were ghostly because they were stuck halfway between Cyberspace and their normal Reality, and not fully in either one. Pretty sure Eggman was yanked into Cybespace fully

I personally think each character will play in the island they are already on. Like tails will be able to bridge gaps between islands in chaos island and knuckles can climb out of those areas you get stuck in on ares. Idk how amy would play but im sure she would have the most emphasis on platforming.

The Open Zone is the main aspect of the game so they will be playable in the open zone. It only makes sense. They will probably have their own cyberspace levels that are made just for them.

If Frontiers really is the groundwork for future games, it'd make sense for them to be in the Open Zone, even more than Cyberspace, because my guess is that they're making this content to port it over to whatever comes next, kind of how ND Cube retroactively added online to Super Mario Party right before the making of Superstars. What I DON'T expect however, is combat. is not like the combat in frontiers was too complex or anything, but I still doubt they'll get a skill tree, after all, if they're in their cyber forms, they shouldn't even be able to touch enemies in the first place.

Considering what modding has already done, they're most likely going to be in both. And if not...what the heck? The team has no excuses if modding has already implemented flight, gliding, new moves, animations, etc. I think what'll happen is their air boosts will be altered to flight, gliding, and maybe a super jump? Their skill trees will be much smaller and maybe borrow a move or two from Sonic. And they might have a stat change to compensate for less speed like faster climbing or higher jumping. As for Cyberspace, I think they'll play exactly the same as Sonic, or have reduced versions of their air boosts. So less height of flight for Tails, Knuckles falls faster in gliding, and Amy might get...less of whatever she gets, so this way they play just different enough to warrant using them in Cyberspace without breaking the level design. As for the cyber forms, I think it's a spoiler thing. Everyone knows they're in Cyber forms, but it's a spoiler that they're fixed (obvious, but a spoiler)

They are playable in the open zone. A new story can’t involve only cyberspace, especially due to the main playstyle of the game being open zone.

@@rari2xx That still doesn't truly answer the question of said "common sense", when so far up until this point it was fairly absent when it came to certain decisions being made with past games. It's all well and good that yes they ARE listening. But even then, that still doesn't give credence to blindly have expectations for something you don't have the entire answer on. Going off of "common sense" will not guarantee it will happen when said event is vague in its announcement. I want to point out that I'm all for Tails, Knuckles and Amy being playable in that you will also have them in the Open Zone areas having different combat options and what not. But as a realist, I have to be objective here and as far as I can tell, there's not enough information to just go off of "common sense" and believe that's what's gonna happen. Them saying "Playable Characters" and showing the gang is not enough to expect anything right now. We must wait until they give us full confirmation on what to expect. That's all I'm trying to say. If you want to go that route and have those expectations anyway, then that's fine. If it does happen at the end of the day, then great. We can all be happy that it happened. But if it doesn't... then all that can be said is that you set yourself up for that disappointment. Alright?

Pretty sure the "New story" is going to be after "The End" as Kishimoto has already been replying to comments and such stating that the games end needs to be fixed. I think they all kinda knew the ending was kinda....weird, and I'm pretty sure they got Greenlit to add more once sega saw how well the game sold. I think the dlc we're going to he getting will be more what they originally wanted to release, thab what we initially got. It looks like there were a ton of deleted puzzles etc in open zone, and there is no reason except for the sake of story, and aplitting up the maps for padding, that Kronos and Rhea are split. Even Ouranos should have just stood on Kronos imo. But yeah, I think theyre gonna add more things they wanted to add/ had to remove during production, and thats why tings like, new cyberspace challenge and Open zone challenges are comont before anythib. As far as the characters being playable, I am skeptical on that myself. I HOPE they have the foresight to do it right, given the amount of time they are going to he taking for it. One thing on my wish list, is simply being able to use super sonic in the open zone / Cyberspace lmao. I love the overpowered / POWERUP feeling you get playing as super sonic. Just my opinion tho.🙃

I don't know if it will be just playable characters in Cyberspace. Because here is the thing, we don't know WHEN those updates/DLCs will be dropping in 2023, the last one with the new story and playable characters could very well drop in November or December of 2023 giving Sonic Team almost a whole year to work in some interesting way to make those characters and I honestly believe that. Because I don't see the point in hyping up the playable characters if they will just be Sonic's reskins and only be playable in Cyberspace levels, especially considering all popularity that Frontiers has and the new direction that the Sonic team wants to take in the series. I do believe there will be more to that update than we know but who knows, we will have to wait and see.

The thing is, even after Sonic saves them, they're in their cyberspace forms. And Tails interacts with stuff on Chaos Island like the environmental analyzer doohickey. I was hoping the game originally was gonna be like either Sonic being able to call them in to either fly, dig for treasure, or use the Piko Piko hammer, or better yet, actually switch to the characters and play as them. i’m wondering if maybe they’ll go the sonic adventure route, where each character essentially has a slightly different story from sonic that details their perspective (what they dealt with in cyberspace and then being freed by sonic) before changing the narrative a little and making them the main character of the story. with this in mind, i’m thinking if they go this route, they might change up the difficulty/progression of each island to match each character’s assigned island (for example, amy would start on kronos and most likely progress the same as sonic, but tails would start on chaos and maybe progress to ares and then kronos). either way i’m really interested to see how they decide to handle multiple playable characters, whether it be in the open zone or some other mode we have yet to see.

I think that we'll have cyberspace stages specific to tails, knuckles, and Amy, having them playable in the open zone to me feels like a reskin with maybe a new skill tree and abilities, and while it may be cool for the first 10 minutes, after that it would probably get boring/the same as playing with sonic. if you look at playable characters in sonic games, especially in 3d ones (excluding heroes and switching characters in the middle of a level in '06), they usually have unique levels that are made specifically for them; The 4 island are made for Sonic, and Tails and Knuckles would break the game, while playing with Amy like she did in SA1 would get very boring since she isn't very fast. if you put sonic in a knuckles stage in SA2, without using glitches or being very lucky you wouldn't get very far

I'm a little tired of people overshadowing Amy as soon as they start talking about her, but I can't really blame them for that, considering what they've done with her in the games, even though with Frontiers and its author, who made a rather successful and endearing Amy in the IDWs, I was hoping for the same thing in Frontiers, but I must admit that I was a little disappointed with the result, The metaphor is good but he could have written it in a more subtle way because there it felt forced with the fact of insisting too much on the word love what gives to side even more silly to a silly character of base... Otherwise I just see a waste when you see her movements in some games and the fact that they are slowed down in adventure 1, I think she could have a gameplay a bit like Mighty with stories of rebound and also be able to glide as she did in the advance... Oh definitely, I actually loved her in frontiers’ story I felt she was wonderful, what I mean in this video is that from a gameplay standpoint, Amy hasn’t really been fun to play as in adventure 1 and 06, but I’m definitely still curious what they will do with her, gameplay wise

Amy is bland in frontiers and idw. Many people complain about how annoying her "obsessive" persona is, but without it she feels bland. Instead flynn likes to write Amy as this empowering, serious and calm figure. That's why I hated how she was leading the resistance in IDW, which is not in her character (she's not a leader).

Yeah, my worry is that there is going to be a catch with these playable characters. They might just be alternate skins for the Cyber Space levels, and then when the fans start complaining (because they inevitably will) Sega will likely respond with "Well of course they're not playable in the main game! What, did you honestly think that we were going to reprogram entirely new abilities for them? There's no way we'd put so much effort into those characters; after all they're still Sonic's lame-o friends, am I right?.... Right?"
